I celebrated Christmas for the first few years of my life and enjoyed them, although when my family started studying JW's, I brainwashed myself into thinking I didn't have a good time. My parents started studying in 1974. I became a JW in 1986 and lasted until 1997. Then I got fed up and left. I married the next year, and celebrating Christmas was so enjoyable. I hadn't celebrated since 1974 and I started crying putting up the tree. Birthdays are very important to me, I am making up for lost time.

Happily gone forever!
by Steve Josef ini was raised as a jw.
i do believe that what they call a religion is in fact, child abuse and mere brainwashing.

3 meetings per week NOT FIVE!!!
by sawthelight inam i the only person ever to fall under the influence of the borg who can count?.
no offence all but jws meet three times per week.not five!
i consider the familiar statement about 5 meetings per week to be a good indication of just how indoctrinated a person is.

How many meetings? After awhile, they just all kind of mesh together. Towards the end of my journey in the WT, I would drink a ton of water right before the Sunday meeting. Then I could get up at least 3 times during the 2 hours without feeling guilty. I had an elder ask me why I got up so much, and I stole a line from one of my favorite movies, "Paper Moon." I said "I have the bladder the size of a peanut." He just stood there, stone faced with his mouth open, looking like "Why did I ask her that?"

When I married almost 3 years ago, I thought for sure I was marrying a nonsmoker. I saw my grandfather die of lung cancer and my grandmother is still with us but suffering from emphysma due to her 40 years of lighting up, and I have very strong feelings about smoking. Well my husband smokes occasionally, especially after a hard day's work, which he says "destresses" him. He doesn't smoke inside the house, and only smokes on the patio. He was littering our backyard with cigarette butts until I bitched about it so much he finally picked them up and threw them away. Plus being in the WT all those years, I was terribly judgmental towards my hubby and his "habit." I don't complain anymore, however I don't go out on the back patio to talk to him when he's smoking, the wind just carries it my way.
If he ever does smoke in the house, there will be a house on our block with no roof, because I will raise it if he does. - lol

A very sweet letter from a man who are like my parents. My parents don't want their daughter to die at Armagaddon and every now and then will mention me coming back to the Kingdom Hall. (The thought of walking into a KH makes me want to heave.) They sincerely believe what the WT says, even if it isn't the "truth." I smile, and politely decline their offer.

Mormons phoned for the last time - I hope
by philo ini had a follow up phone call from the mormons today wanting to arrange for house visit no.
2. the first visit had been a game where i asked questions and they wriggled about a bit so as not to address them -- it brought back dub memories, i'm telling you.. it went like this.... who will survive the world's judgement day?
only mormons and exceptional individuals.. how about me?

I worked with a former Mormon who got kicked out for being gay. He told me any time a Mormon comes to the door, ask them about the "secret handshakes" that the Mormons will use in heaven. Some 15 years later, when a Mormon comes by the house and I ask them that, they refuse to answer it and quickly leave. Sort of like when you ask the JW's about Charles Russell and the pyramid.
