My best friend for more than 20 years homeschools her 3 kids and will next year homeschool the 4th (and last). When she first started 9 years ago, I thought it was a joke. I thought no one can be successful at that. However, she has proved me wrong. Her kids belong to the local Awana and Four H, so they're not being isolated. I think it's a wonderful alternative to public school, but has to be like anything else, done right. Many people are choosing to home school their kids for reasons other than religious. A woman I worked with is an athiest and she is home schooling her kid because she can't stand the public schools.

I'm boiling the oil and digging a moat
by cruzanheart inwell, i knew it would happen sooner or later.
one of the two witnesses who work at my office called me last night, delicately mentioned that she had "heard" i was celebrating birthdays and christmas and wanted to know what the hell was going on.
or substance.

Oh cruzanheart, ugh! I have a Witness who works near me. I celebrate my birthday and Christmas right in front of her. She did ask me one time if I was active, I said no, I had left it, and that was that...I guess because she's not much of a Witness anyway.

Living together before marriage=promiscuous?
by Witch Child inthis is part of someone else's post;.
"we had a controversy recently related to this.
our last pastor (a great guy, a harvard grad and a ph.d.) said he would not marry persons with one address (they could live together and fornicate all they wished, they just could not flaunt it) and some condemned him for intolerance!

I never approved of "shacking up" (as Dr. Laura would say), then I met my husband. We basically lived in 2 places, his and mine, before our marriage. So I am in no place to judge anyone or never would.

What will the WT become? (Sort of a Survey)
by Marcos ini have been out for a long time.
to give you an idea of how long, the concept of not offering subscriptions anymore is news to me!.
as they continue consolidating and down-sizing, what affect do you all think this will have on individual witnesses and on their organization as a whole?

Hopefully Dorothy will throw water at the whole wicked Governing Body and they will melt into a puddle of nothing.

Did U hurt someone because of JW rules?
by LyinEyes ini know we all make mistakes but did you ever really hurt someone while you were a jw, because of sticking to their darn rules?
did you ever, even as it was happening, feel selfrighteous?.
it is something that i have been thru over and over in my head and i have forgiven myself for it, but i can never make it right with the person i hurt.. my dad was an elder , very self righteous, he taught me well, i did what ever he said and acted the way he told me too.

I hurt a lot of people through the years, basically with my first fiance. I INSISTED and DEMANDED we raise the our potential children as Jehovah's Witnesses, no if's, ands, or buts. It drove us to the brink of insanity. Our relationship didn't survive, but the elders continued to put pressure on me regarding this relationship. My father called me Satan and said I was rebellious, no good and rotten. It was a wonderful upbuilding experience. Needless to say, we eventually broke up (good for him as I would have continued in this cult because I thought I had totally convinced myself I could get anyone into this crap.) This was the start of the end for me. I couldn't deal with it anymore and slowly began to drift away. Although this was a hurtful experience, I learned and eventually saw the light.

I remember when Michael Jordan hosted SNL a few years ago and he did a skit looking in the mirror. He could barely get through the skit (reminds me of Harvey Korman and Tim Conway laughing under their breath during the skits on the Carol Burnett Show). It was hilarious and THAT'S OK....

Questions to ponder - Apostacy
by JoeSomebody ina couple questions came to mind as i read some posts.
i know many of you are not jw's any longer.
my definition is one that abandons the true worship of jehovah both in action and word, inside and outside the congregation.

I remember when I was in the borg that even the slightest deviation in behavior was grounds for the most used and abused word in Watchtower language - apostasy. I remember a pioneer sister saying even celebrating a birthday was considered apostasy. She said she read that in a WT publication. That had me scared to death, since I had birthday cake at work the previous week.
Edited for spelling.
