  What I Don't Miss at a District Convention

  name the things you don't miss about going to a dc!

  ---getting there so early and then find that the "servants" have saved all the good seats

  ---not having time to make a decent lunch and getting admonished about not buying from nearby vendors.

  Cruzanheart - I agree.

  I never experienced all the baby lugging chores, but I remember what a really stressful time the conventions could be. Parking was always at a premium, seats could be hard to find, the A/C was never working the way it should. I used to go out to the corridors to get some cool air blowing on me while I was in full make-up, hair, dress, hose, etc. The one thing I absolutely HATED was the way the young men would go around with signs saying not to talk, to get into your seat, not to loiter, all that stuff. Does someone remember what the signs exactly said?

  Bob Hope turns 100

  Have you seen all the wonderful tributes about him on the television? What a wonderful entertainer, especially for the troops, who laughed a little while their lives were on the line. I remember his specials in the 60's and 70's (my formative growing up years) and always loved listening to those silly one liners. You Brits can take some credit for him, as he was born there 100 years ago and came to U.S.A. when he was 4 years old.

  Do you remember why the "donation" arrangement came about?

  over ten years ago when the society changed their format from a contribution basis(pay us for the literature) to a complete donation arrangement, what were you told as to the reason for making this change?

  simplification?

  easier on the brothers to receive literature?

  I remember when this happened. I read in the Dallas Morning News about this and that the WT had filed the friend of the court brief in behalf of Jimmy (I only cry when I am preaching and in hotels with prostitutes) Swaggart. I talked about this with other JW's. It wasn't a secret in our congregation.

  Wasn't this from a case involving Jimmy Swaggart and the sale of his literature and souvenirs at his crusades? I know the WT filed a friend of the court brief supporting Jimmy Swaggart's ministry.

  What bizaree "new light" do you see the Watchtower making in the future ???

  Please help Tres Happy's fleeting memory - What scripture in the Bible do the JW's use to justify the term "new light." I think it was somewhere in Psalms or Proverbs. I need exact scripture for a friend of mine.

  One of my favorite lines to use after one of those pick-up lines comes from an old episode of Rhoda, starring Valerie Harper. She and her sister are in some bar or restaurant and a guy comes to Rhoda and says "Why don't you smile?" Rhoda looks at him, puts her lips over her teeth and says "I would but I don't have any teeth."

  And my best friend from college - some guy comes up to her and says "What do you do for a living?", to which my friend replies "I am the one who scrapes the dead animals off the street."

  well guys, i've been part of this discussion group for about two weeks and i must say it's been really fun!

  i always look forward to reading everyone's thoughts on so many different topics.. i grew up in the troof, so needless to say it was a major part of my life.

  my whole childhood was engulfed in meetings, field service, book study, bible study, watchtower study.

  district assembly 5/24/03 3:40 pm "beware of the voice of strangers".. 1) counterfeit words: beware of those using "counterfeit words".

  2) flirting: young ones need to avoid being lured into relationships with un-believers.. 3) you trust your christian parents...listen to them.

  you also trust those taking the lead among you..such as elders.

  Yes and you're fortunate to sit in an uncomfortable seat for hours at a time, while some men dictate how to live your lives. Now they can use the Internet as a subject matter. And when I first came into the WT, it was about rollerskating parties.

  Did you take down notes at the meetings?

  were you the type to always jot down every little detail the brothers said from the podium?.

  i found it amusing when especially sisters were always writting notes in their pads when the brother was giving a talk in the front.. i wonder if it was because they found the topic interesting, or because they wanted to look as if they were learning something.. i was all ears, but never took down notes.

  that's odd, coming from a person who is "visual".

  Like caligirl, taking notes and doodling kept me from falling asleep, and we all know how easily that was accomplished.
