In these difficult times the only relatively safe way to be saved is to place oneself in a deposit account with a large bank. You will attract a low rate of interest but enjoy a measure of security.

Well spotted Blondie,
Thanks for reminding me where my insanity came from! Was Lewis Carroll clever or mad? Is there a difference? Must be off, I've got some 'brilling' to do.

The Society and the Witness
The time has come the Witness said,
To talk of many things:
Of time and truth and old truths -
Of false prophecies and kings -
And why Armageddons still not here -
And whether dates have wings.
The Witness and the Society
Walked on a mile or so,
And then rested on a Bible
Conveniently their own:
And all the other Witnesses stood
And waited in a row.
But four young Brothers hurried up.
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed,
Their shoes were clean and neat
And this was odd, because, you know,
It wasnt time to meet.
But wait a bit, the members cried
Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And not sure we believe all that!
No choice! The Society said.
They thanked them very much for that.
If seven Elders with seven pens,
Wrote for half a year,
Do you suppose, the Witness said,
That we could get it clear?
I doubt it, the Society said,
And shed a bitter tear.
A new date, the Society said,
Is what we chiefly need:
Books and magazines besides
Are very good indeed
Now if youre ready, Brothers dear,
We can begin to read.
It seems a shame, the Witness said,
To play the members such a trick
After weve brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!
The Society said nothing but
Well use a bigger stick!
The Society looked at him,
But never a word they said:
The Witness wiped his eye,
And shook his heavy head-
Meaning to say he did not choose
To go where they now led.
I weep for you, the Witness said:
I deeply sympathise.
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Books of the largest size,
Holding his Watchtower
Before his streaming eyes.
O Brothers, the Society said,
Youve had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting to the Hall again?
But answers came there none
And this was scarcely odd, because
They no longer found it fun.

One of the most important dates upon which the Watchtower Society build their own dating system is 607 B.C.E. This is the date that Pastor Russell originally claimed Jerusalem was destroyed. The Society has never changed their mind on the accuracy of this inherited date.
It is by counting from 607 B.C.E. as the beginning of the Gentile times that they arrive at 1914. They calculate the reference in Daniel 4:16 of seven times to be seven lots of 360, the number of days in a Jewish year. This comes to 2,520 years. Counting from 607 B.C.E. the date 1914 is arrived at. If 607 B.C.E. is not the starting point, then the date 1914 is of no significance.
All other important dates in which the Society claims to have featured as a fulfilment of prophecy are calculated by working from 1914. The three and a half years are added to arrive at 1918, when they say the spirit of God entered into them and revived their work, appointing them as the faithful and discreet slave. This was also the year the chosen ones were resurrected to heaven.
We could just take the Society's word for it that Jerusalem fell in 607 B.C.E. Then again, given their record with dates, I think it would be sensible to check. Listed below are a few of the numerous references to Jerusalems fall:
The final destruction of the city (Jerusalem) was in 586 B.C.E. (Light From the Ancient Past Jack Finnegan Page 223)
Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C.E. (The Encyclopaedia Americana Volume 16 Page 31)
Finally, in the year 586 B.C.E. Jerusalem itself was taken.(The Story of Ancient Nations W.L. Westerman Page 69)
On the 7th day of the fifth month 586 B.C.E. Jerusalem was destroyed.(Encyclopaedia Britannica Volume 15 Pages 383)
Jerusalem fell in 586 B.C.E. (Yale Oriental Series Researches Vol. XV)
In July 586 B.C.Ea breach was made in the wall of Jerusalem. (History of the Hebrews F.K. Saunders)
Any encyclopaedia can be checked for further confirmation.
As it is clear that the real date for Jerusalems fall is 586 B.C.E. and not 607 B.C.E., all the other important Watchtower dates are without foundation. A rumour of this nature existed when I was a Witness and I had been to the library and checked every reference book available and confirmed that this was one more false date to add to the list.

Do you care that you offend JW's?
by wholewheat inthis is a sincere question.
do you worry about offending active witnesses?

The JW's own Bible states that 'The taking of offence rests in the bosom of the stupid one.' For them to take offence would be an own goal according to their reckoning.

The last time I asked a JW to prove he could live forever, he just stood there staring into space. After a while I said, go on then, you said you were going to prove you could live forever. He continued to stare into space and said, 'I'm going as fast as I can.'

Put the money in an interest paying deposit account for the next 6 month while you look into the matter. Right now is not the time to be making any kind of investment. The opportunities will be there next year.
