Wouldn't it be nice if the G(od)B(ods) stopped banging on about the end of the world and did televised yoga or tai chi sessions instead? Remove all that cinema seating from the KH's get some bean bags and cushions and limit donations to cake and biscuits for afterwards. Cut the dress code down to sweat pants and tee shirts and encouraged the congregation to give their energy to each other in loving kindness? Give the congregations all their money back and tell them to put some windows in to let the sun shine in. Maybe field service could be spent volunteering in local parks to create a paradise in every town. Just a thought.

Future for conventions
by joe134cd inevidently with the new light on the reduced time spent at circut assemblies.
i put forward 3 theories for the future of assemblies.. (1) there will be a world wide fire sale of assembly halls, due to the 50% reduction of use.
if this is the plan i reckon they will carry this out with in the next 5 years.

How do JWs Not see how barbaric YHWH is? Its what started my awakening.
by BU2B inif one reads genesis from the first chapter through the end with an open mind, it is clear that not only is it not true, but that god is potrayed as a cruel, petty, childish micromanaging tyrant.
if one continues reading the ot this is just further solidified.
how do jws not see the obvious?

#BU2B
You make a good argument. The WTBS publications tend to skip all over the Bible like flies on a ... Maybe you have to read it and focus on it before you get the books truer meaning (aroma?) to the max. I hope they never take down the'read the Bible daily' sign, because I did and it put me on the road out of the Borg/organised religion for good. The only thing I would add to their sign is 'but read non fiction too'.

Do you pray over your meals? If so why? If not, when did you stop and why?
by BU2B into answer my question, no i do not pray over meals anymore exept for when i am with other jws i do a 15 second head bow for appearances sake.
i just came to the realization god had nothing to do with whether i ate or not.
many believers are starving right now whilst many non-believers are eating like kings.. also why should god give me food while he lets little children in dprk concentration camps starve to death.

No, but I do spare a thought for those who go hungry and I'm grateful that I've never had that worry. Accident of birth I'm afraid. If a good God existed it'd have sorted such problems long ago. I'm more concerned with humanity now I've abandoned bronze age superstition. I stopped when I realised that talking to an imaginary friend wasn't a sane thing to do although the habit did persist for a while even after I'd concluded there was nobody there to listen. Childhood conditioning I guess.

OMFG Dinosaurs and Noah
by konceptual99 injust fell off my chair whilst listening to the bible "highlights".
someone has actually just said that the flood account actually helps inform scientists on matters that perplex them.
for example for decades they have wondered how the dinosaurs all disappeared but if they looked at the account of the flood then they would see the answer.

The map in the cover of the green NWT used to have dinosaurs on it. I used to like looking at that when I was a kid.

Can you prove Jesus existed outside of Bible (so called) evidence?
by punkofnice ini thought i'd done a thread on this before but can't find it.. so.
did jesus actually exist?.
without using the bible i'd like to see obvious proof..

I don't believe that the Bible is a sound historical document or the word of God. It doesn't put me off reading it though because the affect it's had on humanity has been incredible and varied to say the least.
With philosophical and religious teachings I believe that the proof of the pudding lies in the eating. Judging such teachings is subjective as we are all the formers of our own opinions which is why I think each of us needs to try things out or at least think them through before deciding on the metits and pitfalls of each belief. The nearer believers get to absolute dogmatic "truth" the scarier and more violent they seem to get.
That's why I'm against borganized religion. Nobody should have the right to indoctrinate children and gullible or vulnerable adults by using psychological coersion strategies today. Yet it is obvious that some people believe that the teachings of Jesus in the Bible give them a mandate to do just that as well as a yardstick by which to judge (and sometimes beat) others.
In much the same way some people in the past felt that they were mandated to scare or threaten people with violence (and eternal damnation) to make them at least pay lip service to a new 'Christian' religion.
What's in my head is not what's in yours. I'm certain of that. I respect that. I wonder, if Jesus had existed would he be pleased with how things have panned out?

As many as 51%? Really?
Most of them proved their integrity under trials and persecution and kept right on serving Jehovah.
I mean - loads of people leave all the time. Lots of countries it's like one in, one out... How many people alive today have been a JW and are no longer a JW? That would be an interesting number. If only we had the report data!

To quote your predicted future for the JWs...
This is the history of the future:
1. Witness leaders nowadays do not have the luxury of an 'open the window' period of reform, although there have been some small moves in that dirrection.
2. The governing body (especially the young ones and future appointees) will panic when they realise that tinkering (15 mins for old publishers and pioneer requirement shifts) has not done the trick.
3. They will make more and more grave statements about the end being near, but these won't do the trick either because they will contain nothing specific.
4. Eventually the governing body will stomach the idea of promoting 2034 as the possible date for the end (120 years from 1914 - 'just as the days of Noah will the days of the son of man be...'). There may be some infighting about this as there was in Franz' day, but some new 'prophet' will need to come forward from among them! A replacement for Freddy is still awaited.
But what will happen then? That is the interesting part. Will the Witnesses have a turn-around just as they did in the early 1970s? Or will ordinary Witnesses see through the date setting because of the flood of information on the Internet? Or will the Witnesses break up into various factions and branches before it even reaches that stage? (see earlier thread) That is not so easy to call. I am just setting out one of the possibilities.
One of the biggest problems for the governing body is that 2034 is an awful long time away. Only when new appointments are made to the governing body of people who have a reasonable chance of making it to 2034 will this idea get off the ground. Even then, the governing body will have a challenge in convincing ordinary Witnesses to hang around until then. They can either come out with the date soon in the hope of short-term gains - or they can keep it under their hat until the mid-2020s. If the latter - then they are going to have some problems in giving incentives for making people stay until the new prediction is made. The general warnings about the nearness of the end, no matter how strongly they are worded, will simply not have the same impact as a definite prediction.
And you seriously want to go back to that? Everlasting Lies?

Where In the Bible Does It Say To Hate People Who Leave The Organization? Apostates and the District Convention Theme of Hating Them!
by AuntConnie ini am back from bakersfield and i can say it was the best district convention ever!
the end is coming soon, a few of the annointed were speaking about 2014 possibly being the year that jehovah would destroy all the hateful apostates!
the focus of this convention was not on love or the message of the good news of the kingdom.

I once heard that trying to patch up the world is similar to painting the hand-rails on the Titanic as she started to sink. I think that was at a convention or maybe just a public talk.
