My dad use to study with this guy before he actually disassociated...the guy's wife was a witness. Anyway, my dad was actually studying the truth about "the truth" with him. The guy never did become a witness. Hmm!

Still doing Book studies before you left?
by truthsearcher ini just wondered how many of you were still doing books studies with potential converts and door to door work when you had already decided the organisation was not the truth?
how did this feel?
did you alter your approach?

Are there any former COs or DOs here?
by exwitless insorry if this has already been asked before.
i was just curious, because i think it would be really cool to have a former "big wig" jw post here.

candidlynuts, I started that thread (my old name was OrangeBlossom). As far as Maximus is concerned, he enlightened many of us to the inner workings of the society. I know personally that he was for real. Unfortunately, he took some negative hits from other posters and quit posting. Our loss! Someone else mentioned a while back that he was having health problems, I hope he is doing well.

"I Felt Really Betrayed When I Found Out it Was all a Lie."
by scout575 in"yes i have anger.
i've been angry at christianity for years.
that doesn't mean i don't love the people who've been brainwashed though.".

I think all of us are angry at first and then I was totally disillusioned about religion, God, everything. Fortunately time does heal many wounds and now I'm at a really good place. I try to focus on the good things I learned while in the organization...for me it wasn't a bad experience. I may feel differently if I had gone through really bad stuff but I still have all of my children, none have abandoned me because of no longer believing the lie. For those of you that have lost children, grandchildren, parents or someone really close to you, my heart goes out to you.

Disfellowshipping in America- more commonplace
by dido inwhen i was in the states, texas to be accurate, i attended some congs and got to speak to a few people, and i couldn`t believe how many times individuals were d/f, sometimes 3 or 4 times, and they were also married the same times as well, in the so called `truth`.
i did feel that it made a mockery of the `truth` as in england, most people are only d/f once, very rarily twice or more.
i know america is more advanced in many areas, good things and bad, but i was shocked at the ratio out there.

I have to jump in here as I have several family members who have been disfellowshipped twice, as well as reproved a couple of times and one that will be df'd again in the near future. However, all of them feel that JW's have the truth. They just can't keep it in their pants so they go off and do the naughty for a while until they either get caught or their conscience gets the best of them. Because they are not well liked in the congregation, they tend to get df'd. But they keep going back for more, I guess they like being abused.

I used to cringe when I would see really young, i.e. pre-puberty kids get baptized. Some of my own family members got baptized really young due to pressure from their parents. Then puberty kicks in and most of those kids got in trouble. I always caught such grief from all the other dubbers because my kids weren't baptized and I use to tell them that if Jesus (who was perfect) didn't get baptized until he was 30, what makes me think that my kids should. I got some really crazy looks. I followed that up with if baptism is a more important vow than marriage, I would think someone should enter into it with some maturity, when they are old enough to get married, then they can get baptized.

Small Business Fads
by Stephanus injust before the turn of the millennium, it was mobile/cell phone kiosks popping up everywhere in shopping centres/malls.
in the nineties, i remember travel agencies appearing everywhere.
a few years ago, starbucks and its clones were emerging all over the place.. what other small business types do you remember getting popular, and what ones are you noticing now?.

Thanks Was and Greendawn. I think the Mira Costa Community College here in San Diego offers some online courses. I will check into that. Love the lunchbox, I need to get me one of those.

Bad Girl,
Officially, a JW husband and wife are not suppose to engage in anal or oral sex. There was a time when the elders felt it was their responsibility to inquire as to what goes on in the bedroom and if the above mentioned acts were engaged in, you could be df'd. I knew of one woman who got df'd because her non-witness husband insisted on oral sex.
I think now it is up to the married couple to keep it in line with WT standards, the elders are no longer sex police. -
