Don't Fret About the "Fastest Growing Religion"
by metatron inonce upon a time, there was a vast empire that was born of out events around 1914. it demanded that its youth become "pioneers".. it grew rapidly and published endless statistics of growth.
it attracted an ever-growing number of desperate people in the 3rd world.. however, what no one seemed to notice, amidst all the evidence of its growing might, was that its empire was a money losing proposition.
and that it made endless numbers of enemies thru its aggression.

In particular, I would examine the current trend to hold district assemblies in circuit assembly halls. This has got to be another economic
compromise as these halls were intended for circuits, not district crowds.
Is this something new?

My husband feels the same way about the JW's that I do but has never and will probably never visit this site. He just feels its time to move on and quit living in the past.
I feel that it is important to be supportive of the newbies that come here, especially the ones who don't have anyone to share their feelings with. When I first found H20 (then this site) it was such a huge relief to know that I was not alone.

Oprah's new Book Club selection - A New Earth - anyone here participating?
by poppers inabout 10 days ago she announced that eckhart tolle's book a new earth is her latest book club selection.
tolle will be appearing with her on a live internet feed for 10 consecutive mondays starting march 3. this is a great opportunity for those who are looking for the ineffable "something" else that they find lacking in their usual pursuits...
this isn't the usual kind of book that she promotes.

I was thinking about getting the book and reading it...not sure if I will participate on the forum at oprah.com. Has anyone read the book yet and is it worth getting?

This was just re-aired recently and I got to see it, somehow missed it the first time around. Wow...between Michael's abusive father and being brought up in a sexually repressed religion, no wonder he's so screwed up. My heart really went out to him. Bill Bowen did a nice job I thought.

Mother-in-law gets a letter from JWs
by Jim_TX infirst - let me point out that (for those that do not know this), neither my wife nor any of her family are jws.
my wife studied with a jw - but that was many years ago.
she never got too far into the jw religion - but got a knowledge of what - and who they are.

That's how my M-I-L starts her time every morning. She sits down at 7 and starts her letter writing until right before 9 when she meets with the group. However, she often times spends those 2 hours on the phone with relatives (all JW's) chit-chatting about who knows what. At least she got 2 of the 5 hours she needed for the day.
I recently had a conversation with her about why it is necessary to count time. That did not go over well.

Are You Having A Tough Time Making Ends Meet?
by minimus indo you believe we're in a recession?
-
TweetieBird
Wow! Had to jump in on this one. First, let me say that YES I am having a tough time making ends meet? I take full responsibility for this as I made the debt. I have always lived above my means. They say admitting something is the first step to recovery. There, I've said it.
Up until last summer I had no trouble paying all of my bills and then lost my job (I'm in the mortgage industry...need I say more?) I've blown through all of my savings trying to keep credit cards paid and now I'm out of money and getting phone calls every day from the credit card people. I have been sending out my resume religiously but haven't secured another job yet.
One of my credit card companies has offered me a "hard-ship program" but I can't afford to even do that right now. I would sell my car and drive a rust-bucket but I'm upside down on it so I'm pretty much up craps creek right now. Not sure what I am going to do, but I have to face the music.
Most Americans that I know have a "have it now, pay for it later" mentality. That's why we are in so much trouble.
I will find a way out of the mess that I have created but it will take some time. Once I am out, I plan on NEVER getting into debt again. I'm learning to live on less and have seriously downsized my lifestyle.
Congrats to all you "frugal" ones...wish I had been like you!

Tricky situation - need some advice
by TweetieBird ini have a good friend that is cheating (with her boss) on the guy she lives with.
i keep telling her that she needs to either break it off with the boss or move into her own place and away from the boyfriend.
the guy she lives with is friends with my husband and me but there are things about him that are troubling.

I have told her that I don't want to know about her extra-curricular activities, I am not and have never been able to lie about anything with success and should her boyfriend ever ask me something, I may have to throw her under the bus because of it. I don't agree with what she is doing but I do understand why she is doing it. She is ready to leave him, doesn't love him but doesn't want to hurt him. I told her that she is hurting him more by staying with him and being dishonest. At least if she breaks up with him, even though it will crush him he will be able to move on and find someone else that loves him in return.

Just keeping this active. I've been a member since 2001 and do not remember reading your account before. I have always had a problem with the society's confession process. For the sisters, to me it was like being raped going before a judicial committee. So many good points that you brought out, I will now have some ammo should my mother-in-law ever speak to me again.
