"The Shining" bothered me for days after seeing it.

Scariest Movie you have ever seen?
by Layla33 ini know as exjws, probably for the most, there was a secret freedom in watching horror films without thinking you would have a demon as a bed buddy.. i am not very fond of every horror movie, but i will watch those that have an intelligent side to it and is not gore for the sake of gore.
like "the ring" got me going when i first watched it, just like "the blair witch project" did, which is more about suspense.
anyway, i never saw any of the saw movies, so i am going to try to watch saw iii tonight, since it is on showtime.

I think I have to go to the memorial
by 4mylove inthe hubby tells me that a friend called him to remind him of the memorial this saturday.
mind you, they never call, they never write.
my hubby tells me that he may have to go in scrubs because he won't have time to go home and change, that he doesn't mind.

If you end up going with your husband, why not use it as an occasion to ask "genuine" questions about the whole ritual that could possibly make him start thinking about it in a different light. Most witnesses that grew up in the cult never question or reason on anything about the memorial...it's a sacred holiday. Only an evil person that has been totally taken over by Satan would miss the memorial, that is what is drilled into your head from birth.

Had a talk w/ Dad and Mom - not my fault, hubby started it...
by cognac infirst and foremost, i would like to say... i did not start this one... hubby did... lol.
ok, so anyways, if you've read any of my posts, he's very into this "holy ones being raised up" and not actually "fallen over from there tombs" as stated in i think matt.

Which, of course, led to the question about the FDS and whether I thought they were from God...
That is the death question, as in getting cut-off from your family as if you were dead. That was the one that got us excommunicated from the family.
There is a bright side, though...it has gotten us out of a family event that I was dreading!

Surge in "anointed ones"
by dozy inthe nightmare scenario is slowly unravelling for the wts.. since 1935 , wtbts policy was to shut up the kingdom of heaven by implying that any new anointed was at best misled & at worst a fake.
franzs replacement theory did little to help matters.
this suppressed many jws from becoming anointed.. recent wt articles & changes in thought has resulted in a surge in jws claiming this status.

The youtube video below sums it it up very well.
OMG, that was great. I hope that will be a regular feature on youtube.
It's mind-boggling that I bought into the BS for so long.

Question for you born ins
by startingover inwhen i was growing up as a born in jw, i remember the fear that dfing stirred up within me.
as a kid, seeing a df'd person was quite a scary thing.
thinking back about how it was growing up, it occurred to me that at the time, i never realized that a person had to be baptized in order to be df'd.

My first recollection of someone being df'd was my sister's best friend, I think for sneaking out of her room at night. Back then it was automatically a year and not a day sooner. It scared the you-know-what out of me and I had a horrible fear of getting df'd (not sinning...just getting caught).
I always thought that people should do something or not do something out of love for Jehovah, not fear of being df'd.

Mormon documentary on PBS
by TweetieBird inthere was an interesting documentary on the mormons yesterday.
you could substitute jw for mormon for most of it (except teachings) especially concerning obedience to the higher ups, not questioning the organization, etc.
they disfellowship and excommunicate (excommunication being a worse fate) and if anyone questions the church they are considered an apostate.

I've known a few former mormons that converted to the JWs and now, looking back, I wonder why do they escape from one cult to join another?
