I was watching Oprah yesterday and she was talking about how some people are afraid to read this because they think it will interfere with their religious beliefs. It got me to wondering if any believing JW's are reading this.

What is DF mother or father has cancer?
by yourmomma ini am curious if anyone you know of anyone with experience in a situation where they have a df mother, father, or sibling that for instance has cancer and is dying.
what if the person is alone?
will there be any sanction for being there for the person and doing stuff like cleaning their house or buying groceries?

I was faced with this situation when I was still in. My dad became quite ill and died shortly thereafter. There were a couple of elders that came by to actually visit him, even though he had disassociated himself years earlier and was definitely "apostate". The night he died (at home) an elder actually stayed at the house mostly for support to family but my dad also. I was glad at the time that he didn't let the organization control what was in his heart. It was the right thing to do. Fortunately, the congregation (a really good one at the time) really supported my mom during this time. It reminded me of what it used to be like when I was a little girl...a much different time back then.
I think most witnesses will let compassion be the rule in this situation. I've been to funerals where the deceased had df'd relatives and many (not all) would give them a hug and tell them how sorry they were for their loss.

Has anyone had visits from those that have crossed over?
by LouBelle inis that then proof enough that there is life after death?.
does that mean we do actually have a soul?.
could you touch them for real?.

Right after my dad died (he had disassociated himself 10 years before he died) is when I finally felt compelled to start investigating all of the things he tried to tell me about the organization. This was such a strong feeling that I felt like it was supernatural in nature. I mentioned this to my brother who had left the organization about the same time my dad did and he told me that dad always felt like I would come around someday. I don't know if it was just coincidence, but I definitely felt like my dad was urging me on to find out the truth about "the truth".

It is a good feeling. I told one of my good friends that I grew up with (she's been df'd for years) about my feelings and a couple of years ago I told another one of my friends. It turns out that they both had the same feelings that I did. The second friend also has told a mutual friend who also feels the same.

Hagel Slams Cheneys Callous Iraq Comments
by nvrgnbk inhagel slams cheneys callous iraq comments: not out of character, has a credibility gaplast week, vice president cheney made notorious comments exemplifying his distance from the situation on the ground in both iraq and the u.s. when asked about the sour public opinion on the war, he replied so?
and when asked about 4,000 dead u.s. troops, he said, the president carries the biggest burden, obviously.. sen. chuck hagel (r-ne) is having none of it.
in two interviews this week on npr, hagel ripped cheneys callousness towards the public and the troops on the ground.

I saw Hagel on Morning Joe this morning...seems like a sharp guy. Why couldn't he have run for the Republican party instead of McCain, or did he?

I haven't read all of the other posts so forgive me if I repeat something.
Hopefully, this will give you the opportunity to enlighten your family since now you will be coming to them as a person of authority. On Randy's site, there was an experience by brother that got his family out. It all started with the family study and asking them to do research. It took him a while but if I remember right, his whole (immediate) family finally saw through the WT bs and are now out.
Please keep us posted. I hope you are keeping a journal.

Scariest Movie you have ever seen?
by Layla33 ini know as exjws, probably for the most, there was a secret freedom in watching horror films without thinking you would have a demon as a bed buddy.. i am not very fond of every horror movie, but i will watch those that have an intelligent side to it and is not gore for the sake of gore.
like "the ring" got me going when i first watched it, just like "the blair witch project" did, which is more about suspense.
anyway, i never saw any of the saw movies, so i am going to try to watch saw iii tonight, since it is on showtime.

I think I have to go to the memorial
by 4mylove inthe hubby tells me that a friend called him to remind him of the memorial this saturday.
mind you, they never call, they never write.
my hubby tells me that he may have to go in scrubs because he won't have time to go home and change, that he doesn't mind.

If you end up going with your husband, why not use it as an occasion to ask "genuine" questions about the whole ritual that could possibly make him start thinking about it in a different light. Most witnesses that grew up in the cult never question or reason on anything about the memorial...it's a sacred holiday. Only an evil person that has been totally taken over by Satan would miss the memorial, that is what is drilled into your head from birth.

Which, of course, led to the question about the FDS and whether I thought they were from God...
That is the death question, as in getting cut-off from your family as if you were dead. That was the one that got us excommunicated from the family.
There is a bright side, though...it has gotten us out of a family event that I was dreading!
