JWs are the Modern Day Pharisees
by ilikecheese ini've been reading the gospel of matthew a bit lately, and it kind of strikes me how much the pharisees seem to resemble the jws.
i'm sure this topic has come up several times before, but i've been thinking about suggesting this topic to my jw boyfriend to see what happens.... probably nothing good.
i'm up for a good whiny argument.

When we studied the Greatest Man book back in 1997, I came to the same conclusion...this was the beginning of my exodus.

Is There A Nice Way To Say, 'It's Dying?'?
by metatron ini got into one of those extended conversations with relatives i haven't spoken to in ages.
it was full of things unsaid and careful avoidance of saying too much about the organization.
lots of nice social hypocrisy, so nobody gets upset in the fairy-tale world of watchtower-ism.. is there any discreet, tactful, inoffensive way to tell them, "the organization is dying"?

According to my family members, it's thriving and so are they (spiritually speaking). If anything, they are getting stronger and stronger "in the truth". However, they are dying financially (due to lack of education) and stressed out most of the time but to them it is just a sign of how much closer to the end we are.

Anyone here converted to the dark side by monitoring this site for WTS?
by TweetieBird inanother thread got me to thinking...is there anyone (elders in particular) that eventually had a change of heart by monitoring this site as a believing jw?

Gilead School Changes to be read to all Congregations
by bnybyt inas of this week, and to be read from a letter to all congregations to coincide with the part on wt education at the service meeting, the announcement will be made that the gilead school will no longer be open to pioneer couples, rather it will become a specialized training school for special pioneers, traveling overseers and their wives, and those the governing body deems worthy of attending.
the gilead school has, since it's beginning, always been held in high esteem by the r&f, and seen as a summit to reach for service minded young jw couples.. could the recent dissentions by 2 gilead graduates who are actively promoting apostate ideas be influencing changes at how the gb sees the role of the gilead school and felt the need to shine this noo-light on its "educational" program?.
seems like another cemented pillar of the wt religion is crumbling as the new gb 2.0 tries to keep the ceiling from coming down.. maybe kool-aid man can devote a conference call to this subject ;-) .

Self-shunning Syndrome / The Prime Directive
by cedars ini've recently been reunited with some close family and friends having been away from them for some time in another country.
to begin with, i was a little apprehensive as to how they would treat me.
they don't know the extent of my feelings or knowledge (or what i've been up to!

I totally identify with what you said, cedars. We avoid our witness families as much as possible. It seems like the further away we get from "the truth" the closer and deeper they get into it. At first I felt sad that the relationship had changed but now that we have friends that are non-witnesses and activities to keep us busy, it doesn't bother me anymore. While I will always love them and would do anything to help them, honestly, I look at them as a sad bunch. They are afraid to do anything with their lives because armageddon is right around the corner. All are struggling to get by financially because they never pursued education or any kind of career.
