  Any Amateur Astronomers Out There?

  i have recently revived my interest in the night sky.

  there are a lot of great sights you can identify with just a pair of binoculars.

  i am currently relearning how to navigate my way round all the constellations and find some of the best objects.. i live out in the country so we get almost total darkness right outside my front door.

  When I was an undergrad, My department head was the teacher for an astronomy 101 class it was only one hour a week on monday nights. Our University had an observatory out in the woods on the outskirts of town on some of the Dept of Agriculture's land. I thought, this guy has two Doctorates form Duke. If he is teaching a 101 Class it means it must be his "baby". I took the class just to kiss up to him. On the first night in the observatory, I learned a valuable lesson. He starts off his class with,"how many of you are Physics and Engineering Majors". He told us to sit on the other side of the room and he would be with us in a minute. He took the rest of the class out to look through the telescope at M51. Yes, it has been almost 20 years, but I still remember what the class got to look at. The rest of us got to work out the calculations for the geometrical offsets across the spiral arms in M51. I think I got to look through the telescope once in a whole semester.

  I remember my father being suspect of my long showers as a 13 year old. What else would I be doing besides giving my new favorite toy a complete scrubbing? Don’t get me wrong he was right about my bathing activities, but damn was he a jerk about it. He sat me in his room and told me that people who masturbate develop skin diseases and their penises will fall off. To be honest with you, this scared me to death and his tactic worked for about 3 days until the urge could not be controlled. Guess what? A few months later I did develop a rash “down there”. In retrospect, it was probably a poison ivy infection from building a fort in the woods. So here I am in the most pain imaginable physically and emotionally, (I was thinking my penis was rotting off) and I didn’t say a word to anyone. I could have gotten help but I decided I would hid the this condition because I didn’t want anyone to know. I even thought about suicide. I didn’t want to live without a penis. I felt shame. Well, a week or two goes by and everything returns to normal. What a relief. I could breath again. I later learned that almost everybody does it and it is okay. In fact, there are quite a few medical benefits to masturbation. What did I learn from my fathers Golden Nugget of advice? He couldn’t be trusted. I now have children of that age there is no way I would ever make them feel bad over any of this kind of stuff. I think it is child abuse.

  Marijuana

  I was told marijuana was the most dangerous substance on the Planet. I was told it would ruin your life. I was in my early 20s and was hanging out with some friends who I was in graduate school with when one looked at me and said, “Hey man, I’m pretty sure you don’t smoke, but we are going out to the balcony and smoke a joint. I don’t want to leave you in here all by yourself and make you feel uncomfortable. You are welcome to join us.” Cult mentality kicked in. I almost ran through the door. The Young People Ask was right. All of the college people are drug addicts. I calmed my self and realized he was just trying to be nice so it wouldn’t be a shock. I did not smoke that day with him. He and the rest of my friends did not try to pressure me at all. I did talk to him about it a few days later and I discussed all of my fathers, WTBS, and Just Say No lies. He just laughed. Now, I did do some pot on and off in my life. I never made it my daily routine. Guess what? A little more trust erodes.

  The Truth

  I do not have the time or the space to go into this, but I think the more they lie the more people will start to wake up. Think about it.

  i said, " in a world filled with crappy fast food restaurants that should never have made it, movies and tv shows that are terrible yet make millions, celebrities who are famous for doing nothing and butt ugly crappy cars that were built and sold by the millions; if you put "it" out there and are consistant about it, people will eventually find you.

  no matter how bad mcdonalds food is for you and (tastes) there will always be a line of people out the door.

  Surviving 2014

  sometimes i get stuck in the "ruts of my past".

  i worry about the family i have lost and the pain i live with because of this cult.

  this is my plan for 2014. i'm going to do things out of my comfort level.

  Ideas

  1 Kiss the girl you have been after, look her in the eyes and say I've been dying to do that and walk away.

  2 Wear your favorite low cut blouse and when you catch that guy sneaking a look smile and wink at him.

  3 Do something that gets you covered in mud.

  4 Go a week without using a phone or computer.

  5 Ask a book nerd what he or she is currently reading and get yourself a copy.

  6 Go to a restaurant where no one there speaks your language.

  7 Find someone who is your complete social, economic, and race opposite and initiate a friendship.

  8 Draw a picture everyday

  9 learn a new skill. Sewing, cooking, painting, gardening, fishing, hunting, whatever it is people have to say,"I never imagined you doing that."

  10 Befriend an elderly person and listen to what they say.

  11 Sing loudly and try to get other people to sing along with you.

  12 Smile at everyone you see.

  13 Learn a new joke.

  14 Pick up someone's check anonymously in a restaurant and buy their dinner.

  15 Ride a bicycle in the sunshine.

  16 make a blanket tent with your children and pretend you are pirates.

  I need help in dealing with a toxic family member!!!!

  i have a close family member who is a pro in using shame to try to make me feel bad.

  they are coming to stay at my place soon and the issue of me and mrs hoser not attending/ doing field service will come up no doubt.. i need some advice on how to deal with this because whenever i deal with these relatives they make me feel worthless.

  it is probably part because they are jw's and jw's motivate by fear and guilt.. .

  Write a contract and have them sign it.

  They have no right to negotiate in this contract this is your house.

  The final clause should state you have the right to ask them to leave for any reason at any time.

  Staple it to the wall above their bed so they can see it everyday.

  "In Gods Love" bible study ch 15, wife convinced to send our kids to Bethel

  after 6 weeks of hiatus from our home study we are finishing ch 15-see good for all your work.. throughout the last part of the chapter it goes i er how to view secular work--keep it simple and ministry first before work.

  so the elder told me of a bro who went to a tech school for welding but got the real welding education with the siciety and is now 2nd in class welder at either bethel or the farm.

  another bro went to bethel for computers and is now makes a ton if money oart time and can pioneer (jehovah made it all happen)...then elder we t into how 73% of kids cant get jobs after college and it isnt really an education but mostly partying.

  • DS211 I read your post about an hour ago and I can't sleep because of it. I have to tell you this. I had about 11 male friends in my home congregation. We grew up together like brothers. 4 of us went to Bethel. I did not. I went to college. Of the 4 who went to Bethel, all but one lives in a dumpy trailer now. (The one who doesn't lives with his parents at the young age of 40.) Two of us went to college. I have a post secondary education and I am a CEO with a medium sized company. The other one who went to college has a nice job with a major university. The others barely scrap by to feed their wife and kids. Please don't rob your children of the future they could have. I live comfortably. My job allows me so much time with my wife and kids. I don’t worry about what we will do for bills. If we want something, I buy it. Life is good. I would not have the opportunities I have now if I did not have an education.
  • My Brother has 4 children and makes about 30000/ year. I cringe at the life my nieces and nephews will have. They are poor and probably always will be. Why? Because my brother has no education or life skills.
  • I absolutely hate antidotal evidence. Ask the brother where he got his” 73% can’t find a job figure”. Tell him you would like to look it up and show it to a friend. I promise he will say, “I don’t remember where I heard it but I did.” The fact is if someone is hiring for a job he or she will pick a college grad over a ncg almost everytime.
  • As far as learning to weld at Bethel, don’t make me laugh. What is there to weld at Bethel? How will he prove what he can do in an interview? Does Bethel have a union which can provide a journey man’s card as proof of his accomplishments. No, he will have to look at a potential boss in the eye and say, “I learned to weld at my cult’s world headquarters.”
  • I live in what I believe to be a nice neighborhood. We have the best that life has to offer. Guess what. Not one Welder in my entire neighborhood. The guy to my left has 2 masters. The lady to my right has a MD. My neighbor across the street is an engineer with a masters and my neighbor behind me is a former NBA player with a masters. There is a computer programmer in the neighborhood but he has an MBA and is a regional supervisor for Cisco Systems.)
  • If your children have the ability to go to college and you don’t help and encourage, I think it is child abuse. If you love them, you won’t mess up their lives. As a father, it is your responsibility to help your children become the best they can be. Not throw away their life because of a fairy tale told by 8 mentally challenged people who run an evil corporation. Who gives a cares what your wife thinks? It’s YOUR KIDS!!!!!!!!! Grab the steering wheel and drive that ship like you stole it. Would you want to have to look back at your children’s lives and think about what could have been? shro

  For those still in, this would be a great way to drop some seeds of truth. One could say," I think there will be some nu lite at the circuit assembly this year. The talk Hate your enemies is iin direct opposition to Christ counsel In the 5th chapter of Mathew. I can't wait to here what the new light is."

  Just as an example most venues have sponsored names now. Like the Mercedes Superdome in New Orleans. If Mercedes knew, they were renting their name to be used by religious hate groups they would act. The proof is easy to find.
