I don't know why people care about this today. It is about as irrelevant as that football player's fake girlfriend.
It is something no one should care about.
When people are critical of JWs, it should be something real that they are critical of.
my sister in law has been shunned by the family since she da'd herself at the age of 18 and moved out of the house.
i always insisted that my wife keep in contact with her and made sure she knew she had a soft place to land, with us, should she need it.
even at the risk of it getting us in hot water with the pioneer, elder, bethelite family members there was no way we were going to let her disappear into the wild blue yonder on her own.

they read a letter about the 2014 district conventions and how some would be international.. my thought was that this is a gimmick to get people excited.
the organization has jumped the shark so they need.
to use gimmicks to bring excitement.. the congregations were to pass a resolution to for $.15 per publisher for 17 months to go to a fund to bring the missionaries home,.

The congregations were to pass a resolution to for $.15 per publisher for 17 months to go to a fund to bring the missionaries home,
than any leftover funds would go to the World Wide Work.
So it looks like the international conventions are a front for fundraising to the WWW.

Yes, the conventions are getting shorter.
The longest talks are 30 minutes. The public talk is 30 minutes and final talk too.
The symposium parts are 10 minutes or less. But now they have 8 parts in a symposium.
Everything is scripted, the demonstrations and manuscript talks.
i love it!
out of nowhere, the mrs. tells me that since she has a part tonight and there's nobody to watch the kids, she wants me to come with her to the meeting to watch them while she's on the platform.
i'm actually still supposed to be there, but i went home (5 minutes down the road) for a 'bathroom break'.
And doesn't it get annoying week after week, hearing to keep our comments to 30 seconds or less; that way 12 people can make empty comments rather than fewer people saying something more meaningful.
i am a fader and through the years i've known and spoken to jw's who live their entire life around the religion.
they live as though they speak with jesus himself!
what really got to me was the other day me and my wife had to stop by some elder's house and it was a saturday night.
Many are like what is said about the Obama liberal supporters. Conservatives say people want Obama to provide for them and save them from their troubles.
Many JWs want the kingdom to come and provide and save them, rather than their fixing things themselves. That is why they say man can't rule themselves. It is just a lazy copout. My wife is like that is so many ways. I have to bite my tongue or we would fight so much over this.
People like the original poster described drive me crazy. The ones who volunteer for demonstrations and such. A big show.
I never underline my books or magazines. Messes them up. I don't care what people think about me. My wife told me that a brother that does sound and magazines asked her why I don't reach out more for priviliges. I wanted to say 'carrying a microphone and giving out magazines, is a privilige?' Really? Really?
even if 607 had been the actual date of the destruction of jerusalem .... 1914 would still be wrong.
when the wts says that "7 times" equals 2 x 3,5 times of revelation = 2 x 1260 days = 2520 days > one day / one year rule = 2520 years.. now, 2520 / 7 times means that one "time" has 360 "days".
this corresponds to the lunar year.
If 587 was the destruction of Jerusalem, then 1914 would still be the end of the gentile times because that is how it was believed prior to Nelson Barbour's changing of the time of the destruction of Jerusalem.
it may seem like a stupid question but who was responsible for translating their version of the bible?
i heard it was ray franz, several governing body members.
does anybody have any legitimate info that can prove who exactly translated it?
"A list of the names of fifty-four men "
I said who translated it. That means more than their names. Who were these people?
Masters of the language? But they got so much wrong to where there were many translations since.
Why do people refer to what the translator knew but yet can't criticize the translation itself.
If you want to critiicize JWs, attacking the NWT is not the way to do it because that is not the problem with the religion.

Wow. This thread is so full of it.
1st, it is not a "version of the Bible". It is a translation from the Hebrew and Greek texts.
Who translated the KJV or other 'version' of the Bible? People don't know and people don't care.
2nd, for rhine's reference to 'the Word was a god'. no one knows what John meant but John.
Why criticize that verse because it is different and suits critics? Greber was irrelevant to the translation.
#3 poster. IF Fred Franz had limited knowledge how is it that the translation exists?
Demon forces? Get real.
meaning the anniversary of the day she came into the world.
would a jw typically be offended by that?
she's a convert and a true believer.
Why spend the money and time on something as trival as birthday parties?
It's illogic is why I don't celebrate.
Same with Christmas. It is as if when people are born, they inherit some responsibility to shop for others for Christmas,
by the question "have you done your Christmas shopping"? For real people.
Do people automatically believe in hellfire when they leave the faith?
i went to see it today - by myself (mr bee is on a golf junket).
i was glad that that i was by myself because i cried so much at the end, i wouldn't have wanted to be with anyone who wasn't crying - and that would not have been mr bee!.
les miserables the current film is adapted from what is considered one of the half-dozen greatest novels of the past 150 years and one of the longest novels ever written.
The signing was annoying after a while. Should have been like a Grease musical.
I saw the 1958 Version with Jean Gabin playing Jean val Jean. Neeson version is best.
I like how this is an example to people as I am so tired of the Bible. Bible principles and Bible morality. Bible, this and Bible that.
Les Miz taught mercy and kindness. And it was inspired of God. The Bishop was kind and showed mercy to Jean and he followed that, because he was inspired by Godly principles. But we learn from the story.
Javert was mercyless and when someone showed mercy to him, he couldn't compute it.
I liked how Crowe's uniforms were always perfect and clean, showing of his attention to detail and law.
It also teaches against hellfire. Just like it is illogical to punish someone 5 years for stealing a loaf of bread, then extending it for trying to escape; sending someone to hellfire for eternity for petty sins here is illogical.
