Exelder, those are not JW habits. Those are things that good well balanced and adjusted people do. I don't swear, say God or Jesus, or watch horror films, etc. While God seems irrelevant, evolution is a fairytale.

What JW habits do you still have?
by Exelder insince leaving the jw's after over 4 decades, i can see exactly what it is and hate everything it stands for.
however, there are still some jw habits and traits that i can't get rid of:.
1. i can't swear in general conversation (i'd have to be really angry).

A film about Jonah
by Sergey Antonov inwho has any thoughts about the new film about the prophet jonah?
how could they divide the entire period into days, if the bible does not say so?
the king ordered them to fast 20 days before the destruction ???!

The problem with it is that Jonah said "In 40 days Jehovah will overthrow this city." When 40 days passed, nothing happened. So the assumption is that God pardoned them. Any bloke can come along and say that. There is nothing to back his statement.

"Am I getting the feeling some of you don't trust the bible?
Are you telling me you don't think the account where a doney talks to a man is real?"
I don't know. I wasn't there. I can't say it didn't happen. Were you there?

What got me about that dramatization is that the householder made a direct threat to them. The woman should have said "That sounds like a threat" turning to the other woman "Didn't that sound like a threat to you?" Then she should have pulled out her phone and said "I'm calling 911 to report a criminal threat".
Or she should have said "I'll send someone back who will eat up your dog. Not everyone is afraid of him."
Jesus was creative in his responses. These dramatizations were lacking in creativity.

Tonight’s meeting
by lastmanstanding inthis post is for the lurking dub.
the pimc (physically in, mentally confused) lurker dub.
the guy who reads the watchtower stuff and scratches his head, sure something is amiss but not sure of what’s really happening.. it may also be of some interest to those curious of the nuts and bolts of watchtower’s methods of scripture twisting.. in tonight’s “digging for spiritual gems: (8 min.

But at that time The Christian Congregation had been formed. What is more Christian than Christ and his disciples? They think congregation is just people sitting in a building listening.
I was appalled at that explanation too. If they go by Jesus' explanation then every other religion that teaches Jesus is for him.
But Jesus' saying also goes against their stance on people distributing information in ways not with the congregation. They want all credit and glory.

"How many of these tens of thousands of JWs actually know of the existence of this past Watchtower residence built to house Abraham, David, Isaiah, Moses, Samuel and others?"Because Rutherford bought some property way back when, why would that matter?

There are 2 things that people criticize the organization over that will not affect me. The UN NGO thing, and this ARC. Both are criticisms about the GB and Watchtower and what people did or said and mean nothing about the religion itself.

Shunning: Reasoning With JW's
by The Fall Guy inperhaps this line of questioning could agitate a jw's thinking.
it can't hurt.. you: is shunning a biblical teaching?.
jw: yes.. you: so it must be god's law?.

"Shunning is not a biblical thing"
The theory behind it is that under Israel law, the person was supposed to have been killed and thus the ultimate shunning.

Shallowness in 4/29 Watchtower study
by Rattigan350 inmove forward as a spiritual person.. paragraph 2 "robert and his wife began passing time by quizzing each other on bible subjects.
his wife, a spiritually strong person, had no problem answering the questions, but robert found himself constantly embarrassed, not knowing what to say.".
there is no indication of how she fits the template of a spiritual person other than she can answer bible trivia.

Move Forward as a Spiritual Person.
Paragraph 2 "Robert and his wife began passing time by quizzing each other on Bible subjects. His wife, a spiritually strong person, had no problem answering the questions, but Robert found himself constantly embarrassed, not knowing what to say."
There is no indication of how she fits the template of a spiritual person other than she can answer Bible trivia. Is that simply an effect of her being "spiritual person"? Perhaps her house or car is a mess, but she does great in Bible Jeopardy. Perhaps she is mean and a complainer or spends too much but is good at quizzing.
So he is embarrassed because he does not know the answers to quizzing? Perhaps he is busy working, cleaning, and a good husband. Wouldn't that be better than knowing trivia?
Their focus is not on practical things, but on the organization.

Mother is terrified over talks of peace.
by Searching injust spoke with my mother about the summit for north and south korea, her face turned a ghastly pale and she refused to talk to me about it afterwards.
i know exactly what is on her mind, and i'm not sure if i can say or do anything to assuage her fears about this being a fulfillment of prophecy.
any suggestions on what i could perhaps tell her to try and steer her from her line of thinking?

JWs from the Watchtower have this wrong. This is not a prophecy. One reason is that Paul was not a prophet. He was a historian reflecting on Jerusalem and its destruction by Babylon. At a time when they thought they had peace, then the Babylonians came back and destroyed them. The same thing happend when Rom destroyed Jerusalem.
In both occasions Jerusalem was at war. But now there is no war. So a cry of 'peace and security' means nothing since there is peace.
