Psychology: Sick of Elder Low tone slow paced talk
by Aprostate Exam innow after 21 years in professional psychology/humanities, i love talking to brothers that adopt a slow pace in speech, and low tone of voice when they deal with the rank and cold un-associated ones.
my mirroring their present state in personality seems to psych them out for a bit.
i then tap into my fast injection of logical sense, that throws them off.

LOL
That just reminded me of when, last year, I was first taken before two Elders for having written an article defending the heavenly hope as the only hope with scriptural backing. At some point nearing the end of that 5-hour debate-questioning the COBE took the conversation to where did I get those apostate ideas from.
So, he lowered a bit his head, looked at me from under those thick eyebrows and sunken, dark eye sockets, and, with a low, slow tone asked me as if he was about to disclose the secret existence of aliens among us:" Brother Eden ... are you awaaaare ... of the name ... Rayyyy-mond ... Franzzzzzz ...?"
To which I replied: "You mean, the former member of the Governing Body , nephew of Fred Franz, responsable for coordinating the Aid to The Bible Understanding, who wrote the book Crisis of Conscience after he was disfellowshiped? Yes, I'm aware of him." The COBE nearly had a cardiac arrest.

Need clarification from someone who speaks JW: What is an "apostate" ...or... an "apostate website?"

In the most simple terms, an 'apostate' is someone who voices any disagreement with whatever current interpretation of doctrine made by the Governing Body or publicly denounces wrongdoing amongst the JW's.
You don't have to be a disfellowshipped or dissociated JW to be labelled an 'apostate'. I know, because that is happening with me at the moment.
Unfavorable media reports about the Jehovah's Witnesses, even if they are of independent origin, are considered 'apostate'. The reasoning behind it is that Satan, the original apostate, is instigating those reports.
If you stick to the Watchtower publications and the Bible alone to point out inconsistencies or perceived errors and doctrinal flip-flops in JW doctrine, your motivations for doing so will be questioned, and you'll likely be labelled an apostate.
If you harbor doubts or disagree or simply can't wrap your head around a JW teaching or change in doctrine, that's OK, as long as you keep 'listening and obeying' the leadership and 'wait on Jehovah' to have your doubts enlightened. But if you share those doubts with others in the congregation other than Elders, and if you insist on not keeping your mouth shut, you risk being accused of 'causing divisions' or 'attempting to create a sect' and you'll be labelled an apostate, and dealt judicially with.

I've decided to make a difference that REALLY matters
by Mrs. Eden inhello friends!today is a sad day for me, as seven months have gone by since my mother passed away after a decades-long fight with breast cancer..
because the witnessing/preaching/teaching work doesn't make any sense to me anymore; because it's not about any "truth"; and because it's basically useless, i've decided to quit doing it.
instead, i've decided to do something that actually can make a real difference in other people's lives.

Are you angry for having been a JW?
by Half banana ini remember seeing the ex-jws parading around outside the assembly like lepers holding placards of hate.
we were the righteous and enlightened ones... and they were lost in outer darkness.
just dont look at them was the standard response to their unwelcome presence..

I don't feel that my life has been seriously hampered by having been raised as a Witness. Would I have made different choices? In some cases, yes. But I also realize that I must own my own choices instead of blaming others for everything. What I'm often angry for is the WASTED TIME and being LIED TO. Those are the things that make me angry the most. Then, historical carelessness of the Organization towards the lives of the rank and file makes me think of the leadership as criminals. Finally, the blatant ignorance and blind intolerance of most Witnesses gets to my nerves.
But I also realize that dwelling in anger is only detrimental to ME and not to THEM, and displaying anger only reinforces their complex of persecution and their conditioned response to apostates. As others have said, let the media and the secular authorities chastise them and make their life difficult. My militancy against them will be limited to generate awareness about how harmful is this cult. But NEVER, EVER, display anger towards the JW people or bully them. That's completely off limits to me.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT re: Riley Trust Tobacco Compan Stock & WTS
by Oroborus21 ini have no interest in pontificating on this matter which to me seems so straightforward.
however, since i continue to see newbies and others periodically post in error stating that the wts "owns" tobacco company stock i believe that this should be corrected and the matter put to rest, hopefully for good.. .
facts:.

I would add something to this very old thread.
Even the wicked Pharisees refused to accept the 30 coins that Judas wanted to return into the Temple's treasury, because it was money tainted with blood .
How much more, then, should the sanctimonious self-styled 'God's sole mouthpiece on earth' - The Watchtower Society - refuse contributions from a fund that invests in shares of corporations that deal with tobacco and weapons, who are directly responsable for thousands of unnecessary deaths every year?
Is it so hard to spot the blatant hypocrisy here?
