  I'm not even debating if the city that was found can or can't be the biblical Sodom. That remains to be seen. However, the idea of an asteroid fly-by over the area (finally crashing on Köffels valley in Tirol, Austria) that caused fire and brimstone to storm the Dead Sea area and that clay tablet making reference to such event has been entirely debunked as pseudoscience.

  No one has yet come up with a plausible reading of what is written in that tablet. To claim that it makes reference to an asteroid observation of 5000 years ago is nothing more than speculative wishful thinking.

  The impact of an asteroid of such magnitude would have left a far greater impression on the region's collective memory, wouldn't it? I don't recall other ancient accounts of "fire from the skies" causing massive destruction on mankind. Besides, where is the crater that could provide evidence of such impact?

  Recently John Oliver found out that the IRS has only audited one religious organization in recent years, and he mentioned that here are express instructions to take a very soft approach on religions.   in this video the popular saudi cleric sheik yahya al-jana discusses the joys of paradise, saying that men will have the strength of a hundred men in paradise and will be busy tearing hymens, while the virgins of paradise, whose breasts are like pomegranates, become virgins every time again.. the cleric also explains it is mostly men who enter paradise noting that women in general are bad because they refuse to wear the veil, they wear tight clothes in shopping malls, put on perfume and jewelry, and use filthy social media platforms.

  The right to shun - wrong?

  many people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.

  it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.

  of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

  In Europe there's an interesting development in the non-discrimination legislation. While at the moment it only applies in the context of employment, it's in the works being extended to other areas. It's the concept of 'instruction to discriminate'. If an institution of any kind instructs its members / affiliates / students to discriminate based on, among other things, religion and belief, that in itself will be considered a crime. It is an easy thing to demonstrate that shunning an ex-JW is a differentiated treatment than that given to a 'wordly' person who was never a JW, and, therefore, discrimination. The crime is considered to be perpetrated indirectly, that is, by the institution that is teaching or instructing to discriminate.
