Will Self on JWs
by Slidin Fast inwill self is a well known thinker, journalist and writer here in the uk.
i think this article is absolutely on the money.
in any case, well worth a read.

TBH i cant stand Will Self. Very apt name though.
I'm with you on that, Stan. I really don't see this typically arrogant piece by Self as really landing any significant blows against the JWs, especially since it contains a few lazy inaccuracies, as LoveUni pointed out.

A while ago I wrote:
So 386 is the 'magic' number that we're all waiting for and he's probably desperate to avoid, as it will show a new low in paid support for his channel since he pressed the self-destruct button on his career and personal life at Christmas 2021. At the current rate of 'progress', he's on target to hit that in early 2024..
As I (and a number of others) have been predicting for a while now, it looks like he is on target to start 2024 matching his lowest level of paid support since the end of 2019 (387 patrons), judging by his recent monthly falls. Unless he artificially inflates his Patreon numbers, he only has to lose 14-15 in the next few days to reach that milestone!
Save your party hats, crackers and alcoholic drinks of choice for another celebration on 2 January! -

This mental health counsellor paints an interesting picture of what may happen in the future when a narcissist has children, as those children grow to adulthood.
From 5:16 he also mentions that sometimes narcissists may become more immature and vindictive as they age, feeling they have been wronged and failed by everyone else. "The need to avenge themselves is still there", he says. Sounds familiar?
The latter part of the video is a warning to narcissists of what lies in store as they enter old age. A cautionary tale... for some. *ahem* -

A blasé LA divorceé, gave Lloyd Evans sex for free.
That line and the comment about him still selling old t-shirt designs reminded me of a certain classic song. Some of the lyrics could be:
That ain't working,
That's the way you do it -
(Patreon) money for nothing
And your sex for free (sometimes). That little maggot with the blond dye and the neckbeard
Yeah, buddy, that's his own face
That little maggot's got him one big ego
That little maggot he's a lyin' disgrace.Don't wanna post to his Youtube channel
He's making yet more apologies...
He's gotta keep his patrons donatin'
He's gotta sell more crappy old tees
("Gracious Tibor!")And then it ends with the repeated line:
I want my... I want my... I want my M Sev-en... 🤣

Correct, but if you had bothered to read the whole statement, you would have seen that the rest of the report is scheduled to be published in January. I know it is a tough thing to read more than a couple of sentences at a time, but if you had done so, you would have seen why the figures you long for, are missing.
Hippie, my friend - no need for your patronising comment. I've been around the JWs for long enough to know very well that the full service year report is released in January (these days, at least).
If you had bothered to read my comment properly, you would have seen that I stated that there is no mention of the Memorial partakers "in the 'highlights'" - not that they never mention that particular figure. The point being that although it appears in the full report (or has to date), they gloss over that number in the highlights since it is no longer a convenient indicator of being close to the 'end of the system', as it was when the number was dramatically falling into the 1990s.
Regarding my previous point, certain figures they used to report on specifically they now aggregate, for example total hours per country and average publishers per country.
I know it is a tough thing to bother to read and understand what others have actually written, but if you had done so, you would have seen that any justification for your supercilious response was missing.
Happy pot smoking, hope to not see you (or smell you) around.

I have never believed the oft-stated claim that the WT fudges their membership numbers. I have never doubted that they report the numbers that are received. The local counts of publishers, attendance at meetings and at conventions, is very diligently done so as to appear OCD. The reports of attendance and publishers that I see in the published reports are consistent with what I observe anecdotally.
I completely agree with slim, joe and lee on this issue.
In fact, the org's fairly meticulous counting of numbers is what is causing some of their reporting headaches of recent years. (I say only "fairly" meticulous, because inevitably some errors creep in at the local level, eg: how individual publishers choose to count their hours for their reports - no longer applicable from now - but generally the org are sticklers for collecting numbers.)
However, while I broadly believe the raw numbers, those figures do of course tell (or hide) a lot more.
For example, note what the GB used to report on, but no longer do. And the figures they used to break down that they now aggregate. Also, they leave out some figures, such as how many are disfellowshipped or choose to disassociate each year. And they leave out other context, like the facts stated by luckynedpepper.
Notice, for instance, that there is no mention in the 'highlights' of how many Memorial partakers there were in 2023...

Seeing this thread about this assclown finally slow down and almost die, just warms my heart.
Hah! Don't you realise that posting that comment has revived this thread again?
You won't catch me making that same mistake!

So basically, this new brochure is yet another replacement for the instruction/teaching book to be used in the Theocratic Ministry School/school/Apply Yourself/whateveritscalled item, that is being tinkered about with again.
What a confusing mess! They've changed this part and the accompanying 'instructions' so many times in recent years, it's a joke.
Let me see if I can remember them all.
Before the 2000s, we had the Theocratic Ministry School Guidebook, a small 192-page maroon-covered book which had been in use for about 20 years in the old TMS as I recall.
Then in about 2001 it was replaced with Benefit From Theocratic Ministry School Education ("the Benefit book" as it was usually called, which to any British people of a certain age, sounds like a payment book for getting government financial assistance!) - a large format book of 280+ pages.
Later, when they scrapped the official "School", they replaced that book with Apply Yourself to Reading and Teaching, a much cut-down (and dumbed down) booklet of only 24 pages and 20 topics, with lots of white space to pad out the text, which consisted of simplistic advice like:
"To determine what a person might be interested in, observe his or her activities or surroundings. Begin a conversation by asking a question or making a brief comment about those things."
Did the GB think that publishers enrolled on the 'school' had never talked to anyone before?
To be fair, both the original TMS Guidebook and the Benefit book actually had good, varied and fairly in-depth advice on presentation, speaking and so on. But that all went out of the window once the original Theocratic Ministry School was scrapped in favour of the current arrangement that noone really knows how to refer to (most Witnesses, including elders and even the one assigned to 'oversee' the arrangement still call it the "school", even though the Org has clearly steered away from that word, probably out of fear of liability).
I'm pretty sure there was something else printed in between too, but I might be getting mixed up with when the org switched from hardback books to cheap, paperback versions and took the chance to revise and rewrite some of the content in their (ever-changing) publications.
And now... tadaaa! Yet another publication for guidance on how to talk to others.
Strangely, Jesus didn't need to produce a handbook for the disciples on how to sound genuine and convincing in speaking about their faith. And he certainly didn't need to keep changing and reprinting his advice every few years!
