I was at The Rose Bowl in 1963.
Was pretty young at the time, so I don't remember much - but I do remember going to Disneyland!
so, being that it is 2013, i recall that it was 50 years ago, that the "around the world assemblies" were held.
for those of us who lived in southern california, the first week of september was when we had the assembly, and it was held at the rose bowl in pasadena.
yep, the rose bowl, with no seats, per se, but just those hard benches as seats.

tribune news wire reports8:54 p.m. cdt, september 19, 2013. vatican citypope francis said the catholic church must shake off an obsession with teachings on abortion, contraception and homosexuality and become more merciful or risk the collapse of its entire moral edifice "like a house of cards".. .
in a dramatically blunt interview with an italian jesuit journal, francis said the church had "locked itself up in small things, in small-minded rules" and should not be so prone to condemn.. .
What wonderful news. I hope he does well.
i came across 3 very long serving regular pioneers today in the street.
they are out preaching full time ever day.
they are at the forefront and spearhead the teaching of jehovah's witnesses on ground level.
So true sir.
.

Good podcast! Very informative and well done.
I was impressed by your presentation too Scully. You must have been very good at it.
so, i am talking to a long time friend, you know, the non-judgmental type that doesn't really mind that i don't go to many meetings and am never out in service.
he tells me that the annual meeting is coming up and that the whole congregation is invited...well, at least the active "approved" whole congregation.
he speaks with an excitement that puzzles me, like he just got invited to the locker room of his favorite football team when they won the superbowl.
so, yes, there will be a "new bible" released at this annual meeting.
worst kept secret ever.. however, the new bible will no longer be called the "new world translation".
again, this is pure speculation, but it would kind of make sense since the term "new world" is very mason-y, old-time jw-y, and doesn't appear in the bible anyway.. what they would call it, i couldn't even guess..
So I wonder what's changed. Maybe they needed to rewrite certain passages, so it would tie in with new light soon to be revealed.
friends,.
sunday my father, a strong believing witness, former elder and still a ms, collapses at home after the new light watchtower study.. the cause was extreme stress.
i asked him about his worries.
Best wishes Gorby. I hope you have a lovely visit with your father.
It's hard for them when they realize they're going to die. My father was the same. They haven't prepared for it.
it's 1am and i'm halfway through a glass of brandy.
i've been cleaning out the closet (literally), and reminiscing about old times and decisions i didn't make.
it's times like these i regret being brought up as a witness the most.
Cheers pronomono. Like the poem Simon. Good thoughts everyone.
My experience is from the other side of the fence. Years ago my hubby decided he wanted someone / something else. I was devastated. But he had to make the decision that was best for him. The saying 'when mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy' applies to everyone. When he wasn't happy, I wasn't either.
We all need to make our own decisions, one that makes us happiest.
That said, I also believe we make our own happiness. For me lately, it's a decision I make each day.
these days my jw past stay safely under wraps from nearly everyone.. i dont dig it up- and i see no need to talk about it with anyone.. sometimes i feel as if my past is a large and terrible secret, and i will be found out eventually.
people can sense i am different.
i never talk about my family.. i guess people chalk it up to being a private person or let me be a mystery.. however, there is one thing that i feel completely reveals me as having been raised a jehovahs witness:.
Lol Hortensia, me too. I don't remember birthdays.
And even if I do buy chance remember them, I'm never sure what's the appropriate response is ... Just say H.B. or a card or what .....
i think that raymond franz, he was part of the "medicine man" and he got to know it was false.
he was brave to denounce the falsehood.
i just hope that one day the gb has the courage to come out clean... this is an ironic quote, considering it is part of an article designed to go against vaccinations, implying that the "medicine man" knew that vaccinations were a hoax, and it would take a courageous person to denounce vaccinations.. in reality, vaccinations work!!
So true Westiebilly
