Why didn't Jesus Give Instructions for a Bible?
by gumby inmatt: 24:14 .."and this good new of the kingdom will be preached in all the earth as a witnesss to all the nations - and then the end will come".. jesus plan was that by the time he was to return, the earth would be schooled as to who and what he was.
suppose you were going to leave the planet for 2000 years and you wanted the entire earthly society of people who would be alive when you returned to know about you.
would you tell someone to write down all your words of truth since these words would produce salvation and eternal life to all who believed in you........or would you tell a handful of diciples or say even 500 buddies to spread your words to their children and down through the succeding generations?.

I have a feeling that "The Watchtower" of 4/1/2006 was an April Fool
by MinisterAmos inthe issue contains the "life story" of a brother who has been in for sixty years, but it really sounds like someone from jwd who is subtly bashing the org.. according to him he only got dunked some 60 years ago because "my mother (repeatedly) emphasized one point to me; armageddon is coming soon"!
when he was baptized to age 13 he "only understood basic bible teachings and understood that he was responsible to jehovah for my conduct".
note he specifically omits mention of the wtbs as being representive of god and fails to mention "showing glory to the elders and others" as demanded in wt 9/1/97 but is seeming to mock the wt with the "soon" remark and also with the fact that he was baptized at 13, without his parent's permission and with little knowledge.. anyway, his mom is dead and here we are 60 years later.

Thunder Nuns are Go:
Ever wonder what happened to Lady Penelope when they cancelled Thunderbirds? After a brief and torrid affair with Action Man, she sold the pink Roller and took vows with a closed order, where very little indeed is ever expected to happen in the next half hour.
But old stars never die, they just change their habits. Sister Penelope is back on your screens as an angel of mercy, courtesy of the Blessings Doll Collection from America. She's the one on the right, with her hand poised over the holster of a concealed gun. She's cute. She's Catholic. She's collectable. She's a Thundernun! "Parker? Fetch my rosary…" -

Armageddon Clubs
by Dune inwhen i was 13, i remember an 18 year old "brother" telling me that he and his friends were part of some pact called the "armageddon club".
the object of this club/pact was to stay single(unmarried) until armaggedon.
the last person to stay single would win something like a sum of money or bragging rights i guess.

I remember making a pack like that with other young pioneers bros in our circuit arround 1973 (dumb brainwashed kids).
Danny's "survive till '85 rings a bell too. I think COs were responsible for speading much of this rubbish.

Were any of you ever...
by LaCatolica in...teased, harrassed, tormented in school because you were jw and couldn't participate in what other students participated in?
how old were you when it began to happen?
how did you feel and how did you react to it?

Oh god yes. ; I was teased, harrassed and tormented on a regular basis from Grade 1 on. ; I felt humiliated when I had to stand outside the classroom for "God Save the Queen, O Canada and the Lords Prayer" every morning and I would cry (in private) when I couldn't participate in any of the fun stuff. ; No birthdays, no Christmas, Hallowwe'en, Thanksgiving, ;Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day----nothing! ; What made it really bad is that I was the only Witness at my school, so I couldn't have any worldly friends and there were no Witness kids there either. ; The entire thing had a severe impact on my emotional well being and, in my opinion, was the root cause of me never having any self-esteem growing up.
Mary, I was a lone JW with most of the same issues as you and a few different ones. The Lords Prayer? Was that in a State School? If so, what of the doctrine of the separation of Church and State? Not that here in Australia the Church didn't interfere through the enforced singing of Christmas carols and the like.
Rather than being made to stand outside the classroom, every Monday morning for three years I was made to stand under the Australian flag in the quadrangle facing the whole school of about 700 while they sang "Song of Australia" and "God Save the Queen." After a while I made jokes about me being the Queen. A funny thing is that I have no problem remmembering those songs while most of those who sang would have trouble with the words now. I've had no problems with self esteem but have had problems automatically respecting authority.

In town this morning I walked arround a corner and literally bumped into an old friend David Barrett. David is an electronics/radio boffin and can spent hours entertaining us with amazing stories of his numerous trips to the Australian bases in Antarctica. Stories of nearly blowing up the base and so on.
Him and his wife live in a similar place to mine, 80 secluded bush acres with their own rainforested creek. He was excited with his new job installing 5 radio towers along the coast for the new 3G mobile phone network.
It's good to have friends. David turned 58 on Saturday so we had a picnic birthday party by the waterfall. Him and his wife are big kids just like me, we just laugh and carry on telling stories or quietly enjoy the natural surroundings.

Thanks for the link blondie. (I'm compiling my own list of watchtowerisms and evidently™ this will fill in some gaps.

Interesting stats elsewhere, in view of the Watchtower™ and Insight book™ being designed to 'strengthen faith™' in whatever the light™ was/is this week.
