I'm so glad that others here enjoy their relationship with their children and fathers. This is what life is about, in my opinion.
She stopped by with her husband later today and I fixed them some leftovers. My step-daughter had fixed some stuffed mushrooms and sent them down for her. They are very close and visit each other often. I'm a lucky man to have them. (My wife had gone back to college for evening classes} I appreciate your suggestions and comments.

Had Dinner with my Daughter

My paternal daughter is going to college to learn to do sonograms. She has finished her schooling for xray and likes sonograms better. She is married and seems happy. She trains at the local hospital so we could have dinner together today, my wife was at college so she wasn't with us.

I wanted to tell her how much I love and appreciate her value in my life. She is the very best part of my entire life and has been an absolute perfect daughter. Being a man I just can't seem to put it into words. I think I would cry if I tried to tell her. The best I could do was hug her when we left and say I really appreciate you. I think she knows how I feel and I can tell she loves me also. We always give each other a big hug when she leaves and say I love you, I hope she truly knows how much. This lunch made my day.

master chief ponders over the meaning of life??

yes what is the meaning of life?

if the answer lies in religion why is it so difficult to say make a correct understanding of say the bible which i find is full of symbolisms and prophecys etc.

and then someone always comes along with there interpretation of it and then is there understanding correct and to back up there interpretation the say there blessed by god huh???

There are no answers to the questions you submitted, only opinions. Your opinion is as good as anyone else's. Usually those who have some revelation from God are nut cases with no proof other than their imagination. Welcome to life.

JW's in the '40s and '50s

i was thinking about what is was like growing up as a jw in the 40's and 50's.

some things were easier, some were harder.. easier.

You just about covered it all. You could play on the school athletic teams if the games weren't on meeting nights. In the 40s, at least I could draw names in school at Christmas, but it was a sort of compromise I think. Smoking was permitted but you were considered spititually weak. I hated the street work on Saturdays in the forties, you usually didn't place but two or three.

Generally your life was fun then, I got to see all the movies because my dad worked at a theater as the projectionist. We didn't have to pay anything to see the movies. Almost all the movie actors I saw then are dead now. We spent more time in service because my dad didn't have to go to work untill 6 pm and got home about 11 or 12, depending on how long the movie was that night. He had all day at home except on Saturdays, they had an afternoon movie then at 1 pm, mostly western.

If it rained nobody would go in service, the family would get together and play cards. On Thanksgiving we would usually get together and have a good meal, but we were'nt celebrating anything. Usually we would visit my mother's family, no JWs there at all except us, and enjoy the meal. The kids had to wait until the grown ups had finished, there wasn't room at the table for us all. My mothers worldly relatives were good to my brother and I, they would buy us gifts at Christmas and when we would go see them after Christmas they would give us the gifts.

We had a good life as kids.

are we all insane?.

no not for leaving the witnesses , but are humans insane in general?.

well when a witness i believed there was a certain mental level that humans were supposed to be at , perfect.. they had a potential that they were designed to achieve.. a standard at which you could be considered fully operational.. but is there such a thing?.

HI Sleepy,

I've thought about all those unanswerable questions so much that I don't let it worry me anymore. We have enough things that we have to face in life that all those mysteries are pointless. Things like how am I going to get enough money to pay the bills, what do I do about that sickness I will eventually get, how do I stay happy with life, how can I face death without letting it ruin my life?

Sanity is determined by the chemical and electrical functions in the brain coupled to the information it has assimilated and the society it dwells in. At least thats my definition.

Good discussion, I enjoyed reading it.

Did you REALLY believe Armaggedon was coming?

did you ever really believe armaggedon was just about to happen?.

maybe to such a degree that you were scared or made major changes in your life?.

i'm not old enought to remmeber 1975 but with the gulf war a lot of people got scared and believed the end was coming ( including me).. werent we doing the revelation book at the time?.

Hi Sleepy,

I don't know whether I really belived it or if it was just something I was taught from my youth. I just drifted away in 1974, evidently I didn't believe in the 1975 date. Now 90% of those who were alive when I was a kid and tried to instill this view in my head are dead and still Armageddon is not in sight. So I guess I still don't beleive it.

Resurrection...to where???

can anyone give me scriptural proof that we will be resurrected to life on earth?

i can't find anything except scriptures that talk about a resurrection to heaven.

Haven't you figured out that the NT was written for the 144,00(GB) only. The ones who are to live on earth are just a by product and are not important enough to have anything written to them, we don't even have a relationship with Christ apart from the remnant of anointed ones. Haven't you been keeping up with the new light? We are just the magazine distributors.
