i was brought up in "the truth", i have the odd bible study now and again, funny enough the last time was a week after 9/11, as im still subconsciously in fear of armageddon, but i haven fundamental problems with some of their teaching, hence my joy at finding this site.
i also used to think armageddon was coming at the sight of the smallest storm.
has anybody found what they think is "the truth" since coming away?.
[13] And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works
Doesn't the bible teach at other places that we are not judged by works but by faith?
anyway there was a resent disscusion of this phenonema on the telly.now i'm not concerning myself here with is there life after death but with this point, when people have near death experiences they are measured to be brain dead, no activity can be measured in the brain, yet many report seeing what was happening to them or voices and visions.if this is true then consciousness is continuing while the brain is inactive.this is not sleep , where the brain is active , but the brain is to all intents and purposes dead.
if, and i say if this is true, then consciousness is not solely linked to brain activity.that would have major implecations as to the nature of consciousness.where exactly doeas our consciousness reside?is the brain just a means for it to recieve information and in fact consciousness does not exist there but works throught it instead.this does not have to mean we have an imortal soul etc, but for example, maybe hidden dimentions in space could be the source of our consciousness,or someting else, not just the world we are aware of.
Who can prove what the cause of these visions are? It's a mystery to me. My friend who visits me had one and he can't explain it either. He was on the operating table and could see everything going on from above. There were others there also and he asked about which religion was right and they said religion didn't matter. He never was a JW. He also saw a nurse drop something and the doctor cursed the girl. When he woke up he told the doctor he should't talk to her that way and the doctor asked how did he know what happened. He died and was brought back. There were other things said but I forgot them.
It makes me wonder when they can see things not visible from their position on the operating table. One of those mysteries of death we can't know until we get there, and may not know then.
just watching old archie bunker show and the thought occurs to me, something i've wondered about before.. how do jw's --who were brought up in other religions first--learn to accept the doctrine that lowers jesus to less than god?
did you stifle jesus ?
it would seem a difficult transition to make, at least from the "outside".. i know several here are now non-believers, and that's ok. but i would like to hear more answers from those who still believe.
i went to the meetup in the bowling alley in greensboro yesterday.
only one couple and me showed up.
we waited for about 45 minutes and decided to leave for a place we could talk, the noise was so loud that we couldn't hear each other without shouting.
A cookout would be fun. Maybe sometime this fall we can have one at your or my home, either would be fine. We'll think about it anyway and see what happens. Tell Steven hi for me.

I went to the meetup in the bowling alley in Greensboro yesterday. Only one couple and me showed up. We waited for about 45 minutes and decided to leave for a place we could talk, the noise was so loud that we couldn't hear each other without shouting. Steve and Shelly brought their twin sons who bowled a game before we left. They were so well behaved and sweet.(about seven years old)
After talking over the situation they invited me over to their home for coffee and some conversation. Great coffee, I forgot to tell them that, before I left. They are a great family, including their dogs. We talked for about two hours. It's was a really good evening. Those who didn't show missed out on a really enjoyable experience. I forgot to thank them for inviting me over, so if you are reading this Steve or Shelly, thanks for a nice time at your place.
there seems to be a lot of discussion these days about iraq, even on this site, which i think can be handled in one easy illustration.. if your family was mugged, and the mugger without question is going to shoot and kill them, but you have the opportunity to shoot and kill the mugger first, would you not do it?
no time to discuss the consequences with the mugger, cannot discuss with said mugger on how he would "feel" if you shot him, no time for anything.
if you do not react, he will kill your family without question, without hesitation.
in reply to your posts below, i thought a new post is merited.
it is really outstanding the transformation of persons who were associated with jws from neutral subjects to outright warmongers, especially those who used to profess brotherhood with christ.
while everyone is entitled to their opinions on matters of world politics, but to foster and promote bloodshed and destruction in the name of peace and pre-emptive defense runs jarringly against the grain of anything called christian.. .
If you are going to bring the bible into the discussion, look at the Israelite way of warfare. Instead of just two atomic bombs, they would have destroyed all of Japan including the children because they worshiped the emperor instead of Jehovah or God. Think of armageddon, all humans will be destroyed except for a few who find the narrow and cramped road. So does God respect human life, draw your own conclusion from the facts of history.
I think more lives will be spared if Saddam is stopped now rather than later. If he does develop a nuclear warhead and a way to deliver it to the US then millions will die that could have been saved.
Yes, many wars are fought needlessly, but some are necessary to preserve freedom and prosperity for many who value a life worth living.
i was so tired tonight and could barely wait to snuggle up with my diego.
for some reason, probably the neverending headache, or the neverending thinking and analyzing process - i laid there wide awake while my two dogs snored.
The other day when I was going down my daughters driveway(a mile long out in the country) I saw a mother racoon and three babies running across the driveway. I usually see deer, wild turkeys, beavers, rabbits, snakes and about every other wild animal you can name. I love it out there. Sometimes I hear animal sounds I can't identify and wonder what it is. I haven't seen a bear yet or a wild cat but I think there are some out in the woods near the river. There are some pretty flying hawks and owels too. It's only ten minutes away from my home in town.
I'll never forget something that happened when I was a teenager out in service. A friend of mine running back to the car with a little dog chasing him, he ran right into the car without stopping. We had the doors open to keep cool in the summertime. That was so funny, especially the expression on his face.
This was right after WWII and since it didn't end in Armageddon but the UN declared peace, he was saying SOON war would break out again and the big A would come, just you wait and see if we weren't right! Yea sure!
