The Bribe of Heaven and The Threat of Hell.
by Blueblades inwhich is it that cause you to believe that either teaching from the bible is truly the truth.
is the desire to want to go to heaven the reason you believe what you believe, or is it the fear and threat of hell that makes you walk the line so to speak.. i don't believe that god needs to or has ever bribed or threathened anyone with 'do this or else.
' i believe what is written about god in the bible are the words of men.

Are you far too trusting in other people?
by Elsewhere ini'm afraid i am.
it is in my nature to expect everyone to act in the best interests of everyone else.
i never expect that others will intentionally cause harm to another in a willfull and malisious act.

Can't remember being betrayed, but can't remember sharing something that could get me betrayed. I can't think of anything I had to trust to someone else. I guess I'm good at hiding my bad deeds, just don't talk about it, or maybe I'm just a good personLOL.

by minimus insome politicians are saying this would be "racist".

What I don't like is having to punch a number on the telephone to talk to someone in English when we live in an English speaking country, well it used to be anyway.

A question for those with faith
by sass_my_frass inso, why do bad things happen to good people?
is god so great that it doesn't care?

For example something that seems to be a bad thing might change into a good thing in the future.
This kind of reasoning doesn't work. There are too many things that don't change into a good thing in the future. And why would God inspire the words that, "sickness, sorry and death" would end if it could be a good thing for us to endure?
Sorry, I didn't notice the question was for those with faith.

Do we trade one arrogant "I am right" for another "I am right" attitude?
by free2beme inwhen i was a witness, i was very arrogant in my life in thinking i was right in all things.
the right religion, the right bible, the right understanding and the right lifestyle.
when i left, it was not hard to shake this arrogance and i found at times i was the same person, only with a different "right" message and i annoyed my witness relatives as much as they annoying me.

Some things are easy to prove it's right but most things arn't. Life is mostly just opinions of different people based on what they have experienced and read from what others have experienced.
Religion is a little different, some can be proven to be full of lies and therefore false but others cannot be proven to be true because it's based on faith, which is imagination in the mind of things we can't prove or disprove.
I feel I could be wrong or right on many things but don't really care too much, I'm too lazy to check it out because if I did I wouldn't be sure if I was right.

What difference does it make anyway, now that they have abandoned the generation of 1914 as any importance to us ones alive now. Millions now living have died, the year 1925, 1975 and many others are just a bunch of crap. People are realizing that those old men in Brooklyn are not inspired, or directed by any spirit except their own arogrance and self importance. If they were to be the kings and priest we are to live under in a new world I wouldn't want to be there anyway.

Are Christendoms Sheperds any Better than Witness Sheperds?
by gumby ini've been out since about 1995.......and never had an elder call on me.
not that i desire this....but.. suppose you were an elder in a church of christendom and you were removed because you smoked and they felt you weren't exemplary.
after that, you never went to that church again.

I went to a church for a while with my wife who believes in the bible and is a christian person who prays for people all the time who need help. She does this privately, I've never seen her pray.
I went to see what goes on in Christendom's churches and if I could be influenced to believe in it. The people seemed loving and would give help to people in need. I didn't really like the emotion they showed at times in church when they would testify and talk about being saved.
I became friends with the pastor and we would go together to visit people in the hospital and have dinner together. I helped them build a new church to meet in. I never could really accept it all as God's way of dealing with humans.
The true colors finally surfaced and there were some in the church who wanted to control what happened in the congregation and went contrary to others and it finally split up and the pastor left. The church was sold and we quit going.
I now feel like Gumby about religion and the bible, it's mans way of dealing with the unkown, not God's way of dealing with humans, if there is a God or Christ. I'm still waiting for some real clue as to what is truth in the universe.
I think religion is anyones choice, but sometimes causes more trouble to the human race than good. Just look at history and the current religious conflicts that influence so much evil to other humans. Oh I forgot, the Devil makes them do it, but where did the devil come from?

Hello all; helping those in the org
by stapler99 ini've been lurking for a while so thought i'd introduce myself.
i'm in my late teens and left the jws just before i left home.
i used to know what absolute belief was, but never got baptised because i didn't feel any love for god.

Hi Stapler99,
You described the situation of so many JWs and why they don't see the real reason they are there. I was in for forty years from birth. Finally got fed up with all the responsibility and faded. This statement is so true:
And then there is nostalgia; a sadness
I remember my family and friends I had as a young JW very often and have this nostalgia, no so much the beliefs but the friendships and good times I had with them, mainly because it was my youth and I miss being young. Enjoy your life everyday you can.
Welcome and I look forward to your post.
