I too get lost in these greek topics, but I agree with Terry and his conclusion. I discuss these things with members of my family - as I am not DA/DF or any other D at present. When I point out these things you can hear the cogs grinding and cracking as they fight against the thoughts, give up and say 'Well Jehovah will show us what is right' - or that well used 'I will leave it in Jehovahs hands' cop-out. You have to have a good reason to want to know this stuff and most dubbies don't.

Could anyone tell me how exactly Jehovah chose the WT society in 1919?
by Qcmbr inthis teaching is so unique and singular to the jws and fascinates me greatly but i have yet to get any jw answer how this choosing actually happened and instead i'm left with the same feeling of confusion that i get when i ask how someone would know they were anointed.
how did this process of selecting a correct church occur, how did they know it would happen in 1919 if they weren't pre-selected already, how did they know it was going to happen (bit rough on all the other churches who clearly didn't get a chance to spruce themselves up for 1919) and once the votes were cast and jehovah made up his mind how did he inform the contestants of the results?
do the jws claim any kind of divine affirmation of their selection at all?

I have had this discussion with a family member. I said, tell me, The supreme soveriegn's chief executive of the universe comes down to Earth to choose a group of people, saying, "You are the ones I choose" and appoints them over everything and tells them to make known all his teachings and about the big 'A' and no-one notices. There is nothing in the press or on the wireless, in fact if you went out into the street and asked someone, at the very time, or the next day if you like no-one would be able to tell you anything about it. It is the same with the 'Seven Trumpets'. I asked her if there was any mention of it anywhere in the world when these took place, anything at all (except what is in the WT). I asked her to go out into the street today and pick anyone she liked (an old person would probably be best) and ask them about the trumpets. I guaranteed her that no-one would know what she was talking about, yet they were going to study the Rev book again and read these things again as truth. I dared her to ask the study conductor if he could explain it and how they were relevant today - for they sure as hell weren't back then..

When you think about it, it is a non-starter from the start. 6 million JW (lets be generous and say they all do the distributing) x 50 tracts = 300 million tracts. 6 Billion odd persons in the world. Hmmm. Hardly world coverage. In more understandable figures, there are 100 JW in my ex cong. 100 x 50 tracts = 5000 tracts. There are 60,000 in the town. That means 55,000 people won't get one (thankfully) I agree with other comments. It is designed to whip up excitement within the JW's themselves. I remember many moons ago when the first KN (that I remember) in the 70's was due out. We were told there was a special 'WORK' that would be performed. There was much excitement. One elder thought we would all be bused into a location en-masse, hit them with whatever it was going to be. Then we would move on to another location. The authorities would say 'we're not having this' and so start the persecution! How exciting we thought - until the KN arrived. Boo no bus rides. Then there was the mega limpy and embarrasing KN 'Will all people ever love one another'. How dissapointing was that. We expected at least a kick-arse one. Oh well. And now we have one that I think, and so do many others judging by this topic, that it is a disingenuous means to try and manufacture persecution, just like old Ratherafraud did. The pity of this is that it works for them and makes them feel at war and they feed off each other and the bunker effect kicks in and reality becomes distorted. They will walk down the streets expecting thunderbolts anytime soon and give each other knowing looks, feeling warm and cosy in their 'safe' new found reality. It wears off after a few days when they find nothing will have happened, the spell will break and it will be back to the treadmill of meetings and FM. Funny thing is, no-one will mention any of the feelings and thoughts they had had. It will be as though it had never happened - until the next time.

Kingdom Melodies and Hidden Messages
by inbyathread inthere has been talk about wt imagery and the use of subtle hypnotism during meetings.. we had a co who very forcefully wanted the piano players axed and the canned music used for the singing.. has there been any studies done to find sub-harmonic messages hidden in the music?.
paranoia and conspiracy artists may now address.
thanks.

Never mind, I found it using the cd (why didn't I think of that first) here it is: *** Ssb song 125 “Jehovah Is on My Side” *** I know that in this crucial hour My faith will yet be tested. Around me swarms the Devil’s crowd Like bees that were molested. But I can ever beat them off Beneath divine protection. On those who love to bear his name, God sets his deep Now, I assume the songwriter knew all about molesting, I guess as there were no vunerable children about bees seemed like the next best thing. Unless someone has a better reason. I can't get this to format properly, sorry must be those damn bees.

I stand to be corrected on this and I am too lazy to read through the whole song book to find it but is there a passage that goes "...blah blah blah molested by bees...." not the blah blah bit but the molested by bees bit?

Out of the blue
by uriah ini was thinking the other day about a problem and you know how one thought leads to another and you go off at a tangent and arrive somewhere totally unrelated to what you where thinking about.
well i arrived at a time when i was walking home from work.
i pass by (thankfully) a cemetary and i was looking at all the graves thinking (at the time i was a good dubby but not very active by-the-by)about the ressurection and how i hoped not to die and all the usual programmed stuff when out of the blue a thought, as though injected by some other-worldy means entered my head and said, clear as a bell "what if it's not true".

Hmmm, I need to explain myself better I think - sorry, was having a ramble. This was about 5 years ago. JUNI - The thought that "what if it was not true" is/was the whole JW concept, as I looked at all the graves and thought good dubbie thoughts, resurection, life eternal, never dying - I think it hit me that I might just die (other than by accident or illness).

I had a sort of mental panic, struggling like a drowing person to grasp at something solid. Why did I think that? where did it come from? Despite trying to rationalise my beliefs and re-affirm them and run through the programming - the two witnesses, Jehovah's name, his people being named, the trumpet blasts and all the other stuff it did not work. It was like the walls of Jericho tumbling down and as fast as I tried to re-build another breach would appear and all I could think of was "What if it's not true". Needless to say, the thought was correct but at the time it was unsettling. I doubt that I am alone in this kind of experience. Am I?

Ray Franz CoC, was he in denial? Just asking.
by Wasanelder Once ini was reading a little coc last night where ray f. disusses the witch hunt at bethel that resulted in all the oustings.
as i read the doctrines that he questioned, (not judging him right or wrong), i noticed that he was questioning some of the fundamental beliefs of the wt.
ie: gov.

I really don't see how Ray Franz's being in denial or not is important. What is important is that he wrote two books that have helped many hundreds if not thousands of people including me. I did not feel he was looking for followers nor power, if he wanted that he would have stayed as a GB member, whatever the cost. In corporations the man at the top recruits those most like him/herself. This cascades down the hierachy so that there is a continuous supply of 'company (wo)men. Sometimes they get it wrong and appoint someone who thinks a bit differently or just thinks. When that happens they become a threat and are got rid of. I believe that this was the case with Ray Franz. I often used to wonder, on my way out of the WTBT$, what compelled the top brass to stay, seeing as they had no money, vow of poverty and the like. Then it came to me. Power. The power to control 6 million people. To have thousands hanging on your every word at an assembly and applauding statements you make and the adoration, veneration even of 'your' followers would be very addictive. You can see this in the local congregations, all the wannabees jockying for position, brown noseing and up the elders/co/do fundus so far that all you could see were the soles of their feet. Ray Franz's book helped me to see this clearly and many other things and I thank him for it. I don't want to be his follower and I am pretty sure he doesn't want any either. Re: Ray Franz CoC, was he in denial? Just asking. - Why?

You know this reminds me of those perpetual sales in furniture shops - DFS or SCS and the like. Get this sofa for half price and then an extra 10% off only £650! Then you see in small pale words - ASP £1500, the 'After Sale Price'. What they mean is that when the 'Sale' ends - which it never does - the price they INTEND to charge will be £1500. Well, the WTS INTENDS the prophecy to come true but until it does work your butt off for us which is a small price to pay to not be bird food, when the time comes.

Why WHITBY is so important to us all!
by Gill inthe phrase is 'the truth is out there' and when we stumble across it by accident, it can't help but make a person wonder what else they never knew, and how pieces of the jigsaw gradually begin to fit together as we search for the 'truths of history'.. i love whitby.
whitby is a small town in the north yorkshire moors.
it sits on the coast with the magnificent ruins of whitby abbey dominating the sky line.

Also whitby was where Dracula stopped off for a bite to eat too.
