The only way to get a really clean oven is to buy a new one. Therefore, I've found it best not to cook often and THAT is why I am a skinny Texan.
sorry ((viv)) that you're feeling down. <insert Groucho comment here> <insert Groucho smiley here>

i've been out of the org so long that my memory is fading as to exactly what their rationale is for not celebrating thanksgiving.. i was speaking to my dad, whose not a jw but a supporter of it (for my mom's sake), and he was for some reason informing me of my mom and his attempts next week to take a relative (for whom they are caretakers) up to visit my aunt and uncle (several 200 miles away) for thanksgiving.
but he made sure to inform me how my mom and he would not eat with them (they'd go somewhere, like a movie, for a while).
again, forgive me, i've been out too long.
Hmmm, I wonder if I should show this thread to my mom. Hardly a thanksgiving has gone by in some 25 years that she has not done the whole meal deal. It is all my fault though. I requested a turkey dinner because it was a special day for me - Cowboys v. Redskins This is circa 1978ish. I've heard all the excuses too - cheapest meat - only time family is together etc... Truth is that she enjoys doing it or else she simply would use a WT excuse not to. Anyways, she is shopping today for the Thanksgiving cheap meal and I'm just hoping to be over this blasted head cold by then so I can enjoy it!
it is kind of a strange feeling.
not, that i would miss the meetings, but somehow i feel, that brothers and sisters will ask for explanations why i didn t come, and for me i have to honestly point out, that i wouldn t feel my beliefs being strengthens.
the fear to loose all friends and so on.
LOL - Dan, that's a great line of reasoning

this might date me, but here goes.
in 1974 i was eight years old i can remember my parents egerly looking forword to the big "a" there were many preperation to be maid, we stocked up on large cans of goverment surpluse welfair food, we set aside books & magz my mom though we should bury them, my dad said it would be safe enough just to hide them under the house, (he did'nt want to dig the hole).
when back to school time came around they were considering keeping us out of school, and there was much talk about who we would first get to talk to among the risen dead.
Welcome Jumper!
If you think the trip was strange just look at who was doing the driving!!! <the org of course, our parent(s) were just passengers as well>

The legend lives on from the Kennedy's on down
Of the city well known as Big D
The city it's said never gives up it's dead
if some guy in November turns gloomy.
with weapon in tow and with six bullets more
than his gun had held when 'twas empty,
he steadied his stock and the world watched in shock
and theories, there are a'plenty.
Jack was the pride of the Democrat side
In town for the usual functions.
As president's go he was more loved than most
don't ask me, for I don't know the reason.
The motorcade rolled and the town went on hold
as they left for a ladies club luncheon
Minutes later that day when the route plans changed
could it be some low dirty dealin'
The shots in the ground made a tattletale sound
and another it came fast a sailin'
And everyone knew as Zapruder did slew
that they had best be a bailin'
The Lone Star State was Kennedy's fate
and it ended in true Texas fashion.
When afternoon came they had finally placed the blame
in the face of a media whirlwind.
At a theatre show the policemen did know
exactly where Oswald was hidin'
after the din he was taken in
but he said that they all were a lyin'
The reporters wired in that his alibi was thin
and that he was in fact the lone gunman
But no one can say what had happened that day
though everyone still keeps a tryin'
Does anyone know who was minding the knoll
when the shots turned the minutes to hours?
The onlookers say they'd have made that buffet
had they put just one more mile behind 'em.
There might have been one or there might have been none
it depends on just who you're readin'.
But all that remains are the book deals and fame
and millions and millions of dollars.
Now Oswald was shot yes the farm he had bought
From a thug that he knew as Ruby
They captured the man with the gun still in his hand
Couldn't run for he was too chubby.
The legend lives on from the Kennedy's on down
Of the city well known as Big D
The city it's said never gives up it's dead
When some guy in november turns gloomy.

Yeah, I know. Not historically correct and all that but hey, it's a spoof k?
i'm hearing more and more about jfk, his life and his murder.
the more i hear, the more i believe it was a government conspiracy.
all of that aside, did anyone hear this interesting tid-bit--they say that he "had to be killed--because he was the only us president that was a catholic, and the only president who wasn't a mason".
One of my earliest memories was the Kennedy assasination so it's long been of at least passing interest to me. I was in 7th or 8th grade when I read my first conspiracy book and have always believed it to be a govt. coverup....until recently.
The biggest piece of evidence that led me to say conspiracy was the frontal shot. Shots from front and rear = conspiracy no question. A few months ago there was a documentary (nope, don't remember the name - I'm a channel flipper) that showed a terrible scene of Nazi soldiers shooting jewish prisoners while they (the prisoners) were standing in a deep ditch. One of the prisoners, when shot - from behind - moved violently BACKWARDS. That was a revelation to me and I instantly thought of Kennedy and how I could be totally wrong about what I had always believed. I think I believed conspiracy because it's the most intriguing explanation and makes the discrepancies fit easily enough by saying "someone" did this or is covering up that. But I'm leaning more toward the explanation of a couple of oddballs (not that there's anything w-r-o-n-g with that) just playing out their lives with tragic consequences while seeking to be noticed.
That being said...http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/25/62303/1.ashx
please help!
i have a huge power-point presentation due by friday, and need some depiction from the wtbts concerning the "dangers" of the occult or spiritism.
it deals with the tremendous variations of our world and how "evil" is defined and relative to each individual (ex; the i-ching is vital to confucianism, but feared by jw's, the crusades sought to "save" everyone by forcing conversion to catholicism, but tortured and blinded non believers with agonizing hot iron rods, etc.....)
lol -- "What demons are afraid of" --- lol
I think it was put out as a Dummies book some years back. Demons for Dummies if I'm not mistaken.
i got this in an email from my sister........ .
dr. laura schlessinger is a us radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show.
recently, she said that, as an observant orthodox jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to the old testament, leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.
LOL - sorry, couldn't resist. I hadn't seen this email before and so therefore I did laugh out loud. I hope there is no sanction ( Leviticus xx:xx ) to be levied upon me for the failing of me to restrain my laughter that Lo, was indeed laughed out loud. No, nor for the use of run on sentences that were run on by me.
i have always wondered why witnesses are not "allowed" to have facial hair.
when i asked a local elder just a few weeks ago (he had no idea i was inactive, just happened to bump into him while my parents were visiting from out of town), his explanation was that "in some countries, it is totally acceptable to have beards, goatees etc...., but in the u.s. of a., facial hair is a sign of rebellion.
so, the local or territorial opinions on beards is what drives the local congregations policies.
It is obvious why they go by the standards set in "the business world". They themselves are nothing but a huge corporation so it stands to "reason" that is how they try to present themselves.
From what I've heard about the early days of the WT Corp., The restrictions on facial hair is, uh, rooted in the Rutherford takeover days. Brothers trying to adhere to Russell's views were likely to emulate him by beard wearing. Rutherford put a stop to that and the tradition continues.
