Hi CptKirk, I read the passage, and I don't see any manipulation.

Found a scripture where Jesus is clearly manipulating people
by cptkirk init's a scripture that is very well known (at least among witnesses) , relatively well known.
it is clearly manipulative, and the irony being that i've seen an elder use it for his own manipulative purposes as well....in a similar circumstance that jesus used it in.
when you look at it again, you may not have seen it this way, but you will now.. i am not trying to put jesus on trial here, simply trying to point out something that is very obvious, and yet most people probably never stepped back and realized what he was actually doing here.. it is mark 6. they are stumbling over jesus (spiritually stumbling), so did he say a prayer for their hearts to be opened?

Rub, when I land, I get out of Caracas as soon as possible. I hate Caracas. Crime and traffic. Sometimes you can get a flight to Valencia from Miami, though. Much better for me, since I go to Maracay which is where everyone I know is.
Outside of the Caracas/Valencia corridor, traffic isn't so bad. Well, it's not too good in Barquisimeto either. However, people drive like maniacs all over the country. Red lights are suggestions only.
I've never been to Margarita. I hear it is beautiful, as you say. My wife lived there for a time. She's from Maracay.
I've been to the far east of the country, and going west, almost to the Colombian border (San Cristobal). The drive up to Merida from Barquisimeto is really beautiful with striking views as you climb into the Andes. Lara state is somewhat dry, and you can buy fresh goat cheese by the roadside. Yaracuy state is beautiful in the morning in a different way, green and smelling of orange blossoms. North of Maracay is Henry Pittier National Park in the coastal range, highly recommended. I've driven over that range to the beaches on the other side several times. The drive up to Colonia Tovar (the German colony) from La Victoria is also incredible. Next time I go for an extended time, I want to go south to the Gran Sabana, and maybe to Canaima National Park. Hopefully the country will make a good change. I won't take my kids in its current state of extreme lawlessness.

Yup. You get much better rates on the black market. What parts of the country have you visited Rub? I've driven around quite a bit.

To the people that hate him: what did he do to you?
He has made Venezuela unfit for human habitation and ruined a country I love. My wife and I won't buy a home there, which we would have liked to do, because there are no property rights. She is a Venezuelan citizen. If we leave the house or apartment empty while we are in the US, someone can simply take it. The government has actively encouraged people to do this. I've even had to hold back merely visiting so that the relatives can get to know my kids because the crime is so bad it is truly breathtaking. They'll be kidnapped. I haven't visited in over 5 years. There are more homicides in a year in Venezuela, with only 29 million people, than in the US, Canada and the EU put together, which exceeds 800 million people. It is now one of the most dangerous places in the world. In the meantime, Colombia next door has gone in precisely the opposite direction.
A beautiful country has been overrun with filth and scum since Chavez took over. It's bad enough that he was an autocrat with no respect for civil liberties, but at least he could have done something about the crime. Even Cuba is a safe place.

Jesus and the Mosaic Law...
by mP inive had many chats with tec and shes always fun but i must disagree with her angle on jesus and the mosaic law.
she always claims that jesus repealed the law.
ive asked for many times and she has yet to give the exact quote.. perhaps the most damning scripture for tec and friends is mat 5:18 where jesus unequivacably says the laws is perfect and will last forever.

i never said he did, i said that Jesus dictate quite clearly on multiple occasions that he only came for the jews and instructed his followers to do the same.
But he clearly did not. I just cited one example from Matthew 28. He may himself have come to Israel alone, but he did not instruct that for his followers.
A quick look but this has Peter complaining that he didnt want to eat with gentiles. How can you preach to someone if you wont eatwith them ? Mighty strange. Im sorry a bit weak but im sure i could find a better example.
Like I said, Peter was a flawed person. He denied Jesus the night before his death. He also caved to pressure from other Jews. Peter, Peter, Peter. Whatever are we going to do with you?
And yet, he is recorded as performing the first baptism of non-Jews, and there is also his statement at Acts 15 which I cited earlier. Both are evidence contrary to what you are saying.
So no, your assertion that Jesus did not intend for his teachings to go beyond other Jews does not hold together. There is is clear evidence that this is not the case. We have Jesus own recorded words, and recorded actions of Peter and others.

It was at best a pyrric victory the Bible has been a curse for the poor jews for the past 1900 years.
If it weren't for their own writings which we call the Bible, there would be no Jews walking about today. Their preservation of their writings, and their keeping it alive as something relevant in every age they have lived through, is what has preserved their existence as a people, despite exile, persecution, and minority status in every nation they have ever lived in during that time. If they had let go of their book, they would not be here today as a people. They would have become a historical curiousity, as so many ancient vanished peoples have. Not only that, their great cultural literature truly changed the rest of the world.

Ive updated my previous post to address. Peter had fights w/ Paul about this very matter. Apparently they originally thought something much different but time dictates that things may change, so they did. It does not change my assertion that Jesus only came for the jews etc.
Jesus never forbid his disciples going to the Gentiles. If he did, show me. Jesus came to Israel, but he is recorded as saying that his disciples would go to the whole world.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

And sure, Paul had issues with Peter's behavior, but that does not mean they were in disagreement on accepting Gentiles. Who is recorded as baptising the first Gentile Christian, Cornelius? Peter wasn't perfect by any means. He had a history of caving to peer pressure. He did so after Gethsemane outside of the building where Jesus was being tried by the Sanhedrin for example.
And, as I mentioned earlier, the issue was hammered out at a council in Jerusalem, which included Peter, Paul, and other early Christian leaders.
What is Peter recorded as saying there?
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+15&version=NIV
The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10
