  I've seen similar CO's in underdeveloped countries. Judging everything by the standards in the US would be a mistake.

  Just remembered: Oct. 26, 1963, I was baptized. I was 11!!

  wow.

  it was 45 years ago yesterday that i was baptized a jw.

  back when you weren't baptized to an organization.. i was 11. went to a circuit assembly in massachusetts with another jw family (circuit ma #3 at the time), and honest to god, we stayed at the pioneer motel!.

  Anyone know Hands Hubler the D.O Missionary {a.k.a The Terminator}

  hands hubler was the rudest most arrogant man "jehovah" ever made.

  he was famous for kicking out sisters with crying babies during his talks.

  he went to a bible study as a sister asked him to come along, he saw the christmas decorations were up so he excused them and said they would not be coming back, "terminating" the sisters study, no discussion, no nothing.

  Jess was about 18 years older than Neville and he died not that long after her - I believe. Ted did have a sense of humour - but a bit on the sarcastic side. They both came from a slightly unusual family (don't mean that in a nasty way - from a country town) so had their background to contend with, as we all do. I found them to be more normal than some others.

  Are there any Americans who moved to Australia here?

  or does anyone know someone who has moved from america to australia that i could get in touch with?.

  i'm wondering how difficult a move would be, how much $$ it takes, etc.. i know the australian government won't consider granting immigration unless the candidate has job skills and/or education.

  this is not a problem.

  If you have checked out the government immigration site then I guess you understand about the point system. Check out property prices - buy/rent can be quite expensive. Careers.com etc will give employment information. Money can be made working in the mining towns at the moment, due to the mining boom. Best of luck.

  to anyone's knowledge, has there been any scientific research into the question of whether human consciousness can survive beyond death?

  i am referring to research studies conducted by neurologists, neuro-biologists, and neuro-physiologists.

  as far as i know, reputable scientific studies feature such factors as control groups.

  As far as I know only Taiwan has Ghost Month, but I would assume it has connections to mainland China - perhaps just some particular part of it. The rest of Asia doesn't, that I know of. I do know that popular ghost stories (comic books) often have illustrations similar to those facial features that you described. The book - 'The Way of the Sharman' gives a good overview of the belief system that underpins many traditional cultures, regardless of whether they claim to be christian or not. Those culturally embedded ideas go very deep and are the basis of people's world view in many ways that are not always obvious on the surface.

I have seen a few interesting discussions on the net - some youtube and some longer discussions in documentaries. (Your experience wasn't in June/July? - That is the month of the dead re Chinese thinking - can't remember exactly which month now)

  Uninformed: No - she is a VERY well qualified doctor and studied medicine when she was a young JW - I would guess about 35 - 40 years ago. I think it is too easy to dismiss all JW's by the few we may know and assume they are all window washers. Of course - had she been male it may have been different - someone may have thought to make use of her abilities.
