greetings SYn. Most of the people here are ex Jdubs...like they call George W. Bush dub or Gdubya, or some such craziness. We have some JWs who pop in from time to time, many having doubts, and some who care to come and antagonize....but all are welcome. Have a good time and I'm sure you will find your own insight into the experience...

Hi, new to the board!
by SYN ini hope my user name doesn't offend anyone - it actually stands for the [syn] command your computer uses to connect to other computers on the web, not what you were thinking!.
is this board mainly for jw or ex-jw people?
curious.... also...i have heard the phrase 'dub' used to describe jw people.

greetings BG...still on for 29th?
Now then, as one who has gone off the deep end once or twice, it has been my experience that if David has a problem with the use of any substance, not otherwise deemed as legal, then Kammy is not the person for him. Those who use or have used drugs are much like ex JWs in the way that not all concepts of old ways ever disappears. Kammy will always have the anvil hanging over her head, and one hopes she can abstain from the hard stuff. On the other hand, David needs to examine his reaction to her use of pot, the context in which she was sneaking around, and then ask himself whether or not he would prefer to know the entire truth about her activities. One of which could be that when she feels the need/desire to smoke that he be present, perhaps the underlying reason being he could "help" her though what one might call "a time of need". If anything, to find out if this behaviour will indeed lend itself to her falling back on harder drugs, i.e. she smokes a joint and then immediately wants to buy an eight ball (as an extreme example). As well, it might be mentioned that she may not feel comfortable engaging in a smoke around David, and thus find it less important than she did before. If I learned anything from reading Ray Franz, it is that ultimately a compromise between those you love over tough issues is the only way to maintain a clear conscience, while truly loving one another. Lastly, her actions are hers to reconcile with her god or whatever, and if David buys that ticket, he needs to be able to take the ride, accept/ove her and make the best of it.

Find a place where people are partying...maybe friends from work, etc...or you could go on Christmas day to homeless or women's shelter and help w/Christams dinner. Give to charity if you have no other outlet, but most of all, be good to yourself and never feel guilt over celebrating that can do you no harm.

Ve Vil Choose Who Takes Ze Emblems
by Englishman inthis is a spin-off to scully's stunning account of mistreatment at the hands of jw elders.. scully was refused the emblems at a memorial celebration.
this happened once to me also, just after my father had died.
stupidly, my wife and i agreed to accompany my mother to a memorial.

Lots of the "annointed ones" fell out of favor w/the society, so yes there were always those who were denied the sacrament. Most of them are dead by now though, seeing as if they were born before 1914, they would be an average age of 87 if not older.

No one was supposed to take the sacrament unless they were of the 144,000 EVER, as it was supposed to symbolize the covenant between Jesus and the 144,000 who got to go to the big Kingdom Hall in the sky to become judges, etc.., not the rest of us who were merely doomed to live in a paradise on earth..... Even DFed ones who wanted to come back were welcome at passover, just like inactives, newcomers, etc...

Greek heroes & the nephalim
by Simon incan anyone remember this being in print or hearing the same thing .... i remember more than one talk where the suggestion was made that the larger-than-life greek heroes were the same nephalim or "mighty ones of old" mentioned in the bible.. does anyone else remember this?

If you believe in biblical verse, such as Genesis and the account of the flood, none of the fallen angels survived the flood. The historic timeline also dictates that the Greco/Roman myths were created much later in history. One might draw a conclusion, if you believe the bible, is that all mythology spawns from a central core of myths/stories, presumably passed down from the descendants of Noah. I don't buy it at all, because you can't base real history on Biblical myth. Even JW scholars acknowledge distinct historical records in the bible, from prophecy, conversations with Dog, so forth.
My three cents. -

In my experience, everyone who attended passover got to pass the sacraments, even those who were not active JWs. The only rule in effect was that the 144k were the only ones that could partake. I only ever saw two people partake in ym time w/JWland. In Scully's instance, it may have been that they assumed while she was caring for her child she may have spilled the sacraments, thereby ruining their oh so special ocassion. If you aren't welcome at passover, you never make it into the hall, this I know, because my redneck dad was usually asked to deal w/anyone not found appropriate to enter the hall, or an assembly, etc...
