You're in love with a girl for a couple of months? Are you sure it's love? Not infatuation, not lust? Remember that a lot of what you believed has been shattered and it does make you question everything including your marriage. But just because you met some sweet young thing that makes you feel good about yourself does not mean that it is true love. I know. I speak from experience. I went through that. But I lived through it and realized that my marriage was actually one of the better things to try to hold on to. Meeting someone new can make you feel alive or younger or something, but it doesn't mean your wife or marriage is no good. Granted, we don't know all the details, nor do I want to, but I sensed that you are going through something I went through and I personally am so grateful that I did not end my marriage because of somebody I met while vulnerable. Just something to think about.

Larry Graham was interviewed at the District Convention last year. I really thought it was incredible how he was used as an example of someone who was able to simplify his life and pioneer. I guess even though I am not a multi-millionaire musician, I should somehow be able to arrange my life to devote more time to the ministry.
This goes back to a thread some time ago about how the assemblies and conventions use out of touch experiences of how people make more time for the ministry. Gimme a break. Graham doesn't have to work 40-50 hours a weeks, 52 weeks a year, 40-50 years. Of course he can make time for pioneering. Give me a million or two and I could make time too. On the other hand, you parade a successful, rich, muscian pioneer around on stage and how are you going to convince the youth in the audience not to pursue their talents instead of full-time pioneering?
So these guys were with Santana, huh? I wonder if they have been counseled on their association with worldly people. If normal dubs aren't even supposed to own a Santana album, then actually hanging out with the dude has gotta be a no-no. Did they join him on stage to play Black Magic Woman?

Need some info on Pistols
by jelly ini am thinking of getting a pistol and i am not sure of what kind to get.
i went to an indoor range today and tried out a glock .45 (the smaller model) and a heavier .45. i found the glock rested well in my hand but i could shoot much more accurately with the heavier (and longer barreled) pistol.
any way, i am looking for a home protection / target practice pistol and would like any input on what caliber to get.

For home defense I have to agree with the others: a shotgun is the way to go. No precise aiming. Just point and fire.
Someone else asked why carry a gun. This is a good question. Anyone who picks up a gun better be prepared to use it. Not just learn how it works, how to load and how to aim and fire, but actually be ready to take a human life. There can be no hesitation if you plan on pointing a gun at someone. Most people hesitate. Most people should not carry a gun for self defense.

Did you destroy your records/LPs/Tapes?
by RAYZORBLADE ini am just wondering.
for those of you who were jehovah's witnesses back in the late 70s and early 80s, did any of you ever destroy your records/lps or cassette tapes after one of those talks at an assembly about 'demonic music', 'backwards masking' and so on?
i remember i had some records destroyed, but i couldn't do it.

I remember a circuit assembly where the speaker actually played Stairway to Heaven backwards on stage trying to prove the demonicness(?) of my generations music. While he was speaking someone managed to have a list of "objectionable" artists and albums distributed through the audience. The list was laughable. James Taylor was on the list cause he spent time in a mental institution. Simon and Garfunkel. The Beatles. Mommas and the Pappas. And of course the harder edged bands, Zep, Sabbath. Anything disco. Earth, Wind and Fire was on the list. I remember a lot of the elders and MSs throwing away their EW&F albums. I lost my Zep, KISS, Rush, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles Hotel California among others. I have since replaced em with newer CD versions. Never got rid of the Beatles stuff tho. Just couldn't do it. I still have some of the Apple label albums, like the White Album and Let It Be, I think.
Can't confirm it, but I heard that the brother who played the album backwards on stage actually got in trouble later for not sticking to the script.
I've noticed(before I left anyway) that when "debasing music" is talked or written about, names are not mentioned. Just kind of a generic warning about all wordly music. Makes it easier for dub kids today to have at least some of their music.

by BATHORY inim not sure if is prudent to post this here.

9 of the gb members were present and a handfull of elitists that apparently no-one knows or would recognise.

I have ample evidence that says that this board is monitored by the WTBTS
If that is the case, haven't they in effect DA'd themselves from the organization? Aren't we(JWs) counseled to not have anything to do with apostate info? I see hypocrisy here. Dubs are warned to stay away. But ones in certain positions can "monitor" the anti-witness sites? What benefit is gained? Even if it is to see what areas are of concern to those disgruntled by the org, isn't this still the same as "the dog returning to it's vomit"? If someone has evidence that it is monitored maybe it should be made public so that lurking dubs can see how hypocritical their leaders are.

Strangest thing you were called on the carpet for.
by Icansaylucky ini would like to hear some of the strangest or most ridiculous thing you got in trouble with the elders for.
here is mine.. back in the early 70's i was married at the age of 18, typical witness thing to do.
my husband who was 6 years older than i ruled me like a overly strict father.

I am just dumbfounded by some the things mentioned here. Colored dress shirts. Stamps. Feeding ducks. I guess I must have been in a pretty lenient area.
I was counseled a couple(or three or four) times on grooming, once on not owning a four door car and once for some silly parlor game that someone took as a demonic ritual and complained to the elders about. And these counselings came from one elder(two for the parlor game). And each time they said the same thing, that technically there wasn't any scriptural backing but in order to maintian harmony and a spirit of cooperation I should comply with their wishes. Of course I acted the part and did just enough to show my cooperation. I bought a used four door car just for service. Never drove it to meetings or anywhere else. Just service. Trimmed my mustache and kept my hair off my collar, barely. Didn't play the parlor game anymore(it was stupid anyway). I never considered these things too serious since it was not coming from a committee or the Society. Especially since only one elder was present. I figured it was just their own little pet peeve. So I played along just enough to keep them off my back. Now I wish I had handled it differently. I would have liked to tell them to mind their own business. It really is amazing, looking back, how we let ordinary people control us so tightly, that we can't even make everyday decisions for ourselves. It really has f___ed some of us up.

When I first saw your name I wondered if it had reference to the Ministry song. That's a great song.
The Cult is a great band. I've gotten more than a couple of remarks on my owning their albums. I've always wondered why the negative response to that band. Is it the name? It's not like their named The Occult. It's just The Cult. Some people think that the WTS is a cult. Do they worship Satan? Not that I've seen. And I doubt Joe Elder or Bob Pioneer have researched it that close to know for a fact it they do or don't.
I never let anyone know that I had a Ministry album. That was surefire elder damnation if that ever got out.

Anyone Here Lost Their Inheritance To The WT?
by Englishman ini have.. i hadn't even realised it until i had a conversation with my brother last summer.
our dad was a proffesional man who could command a good income whilst he worked.
trouble is, that he would listen to all the 1975 "end of the system" nonesense and then become motivated to serve where the need was great.

On one level I commeserate, it must suck to see good money going to a bad cause. On the other hand, it's your folks money, you have no right to it.
I've wondered if my parents are going to leave everything to the WTS. But at the same time I try to not care. It's not my money. I'd rather they spend their money while alive to enjoy their later years than horde it for some money grubbers later(whether the WTS or my siblings). The sad thing though is that many don't have a decent retirement fund or any money to leave behind or to spend even because they lived their lives as if the world was ending and they wouldn't need it. Now they are stuck. And this places burdens on the world that JWs hate so much because they have to rely on social services.
