What's you BIGGEST pet peeve/disagreement with the WT or GB?!?

for me its the district conventions.

not bragging in anyway, but i was born-into a family of 'higher ups' im talking co's and zo's..... and there is a room that they set up in the conventions/stadiums called the "chairmans office".

i always have access to these rooms, because im usually with one of my higher up family members who give talks and all that other crap.. anyways, while everyone in the convention is sitting in the sun, eating a slimy, soggy bolognia sandwich, the chairmans office is air conditioned, has a variety of chilled beverages, 'coke, pepsi, diet coke, gatorade, dasani water bottles,' not to mention the 'danishes, sandwich triangles, cookies, cakes, muffins, fresh coffee, and for lunch, pizza, salads, pastas, and lasagna'.

Leaving aside all the doctrinal issues it would have to be the control factor.

Grooming laws... no long hair, no facial hair, no individual style of any kind. For sisters, no pants, no short skirts, panty hose required, no short hair (men style).

Entertainment laws... no R-rated movies, no 'debasing' music, no trendy books or magazines.

On and on they went.

And for the sticklers out there, yes, there were no actual rules or laws that forbade those things, just elder counsel and peer pressure. But they were unspoken laws nonetheless. Try wearing a beard to the KH for a talk and see what reaction you get. I did... It was as if Satan himself came to give the part. Try wearing your hair long, over your collar. Count the elders that want to speak with you after the meeting. Sisters - wear a skirt that comes up over your knee, or maybe a slit, or maybe an undone button on your blouse.

Leave a heavy metal or rap CD laying around your car when it's your turn to drive in service.

Leave R-rated movied laying around on Book Study night.

See how long before you're 'counseled'.

Still Waiting For the Governing Body To Explain Their New Light

regarding the governing bodys new light relative to matthew 24:45-47, anointedjw.org recently said the following:.

perhaps this is another reason why they have not yet published a sober and scriptural xplanation of this new light.

Let's face it, dubs - in general, are a lazy lot. They don't study the deeper things. Hell, they don't even read the Watchtower from cover to cover.

There may be a few, here and there, that fancy themselves as researchers, but all they do is research WT publications and accept whatever the WTS hands down. The rest of em, as many of us were a part of, just did enough to get by. Half ass studied the WT study article the night before, or even the morning of, if at all. Never studied all the material for the Ministry School or Service Meeting. Our favorite meeting was the public talk. No prepping. Just sit there and pretend to listen. Never prepped for field service. You'd flip through the pages of the mags on the way to the territory.

If the WTS changes a doctrine and introduces it with little to or no fanfare, it's only a matter of time before everyone is re-indoctrinated with the new light, never realizing the change was made right under their noses.

You'd think that a change as significant as this would create a little bit of buzz, but after a year or two, most dubs will be spouting the new doctrine as of it was this way since the days of Russell.

If over-lapping generations didn't jolt em awake, which affects more of them personally, this change, not affecting the vast majoritie's status or position, won't do nuthin'

usually i read through the study article for the week to see if there are good points of discussion with my family.. when i read this paragraph, i nearly fell off my chair.

this is complete and utter garbage.

i have had discussions with my wife and other family members who also agreed it was complete rubbish.

I never once saw a successful appeal....Even though as an elder, I helped a friend of mine prepare one once! I thought we had an airtight case to get the DF overturned......I was wrong.

I've heard of one case being overturned. The DFd was un-DFd, readmitted but yet remained on probabtion, or whatever they call it when 'privileges' are revoked. I can't remember the details. At the time I was still in, and thought that it was odd, yet fair, if Jehovah's spirit really overcame an injustice. What a dope I was...

Has anyone noticed a trend where JWs are opting out of having funerals at Kingdom Halls? And not even in funeral home parlors where local elders take charge of the production...

I haven't been to a lot of JW funerals the last few years, but the ones I did attend, it was the older folks... the uber zealous types that had the 'traditional' JW infomerical style funeral, but among some other, not so dyed-in-the-wool, total zombiefied dubs, they went to more non-traditional services. Especially younger generations who are starting to face the deaths of family and friends that they never thought possible before.

More cremations. More private memorials, with only close friend and family memorial services at a favorite vacation or nature spot of the deceased.

Not a huge trend, but enough to make me realize that many dubs would prefer to have a real memorial service eulogizing the deceased instead of the JW style of talk, that turns into a recruitment speech.

Don't forget - this is an Awake! article. The magazine designed for non-JWs to learn about JWs and hopefully by intriqued enough to learn more and become one (Ha!).

The Watchtower is the magazine studied at the KH, and is the magazine referred to when doctrinal questions arise.

If a JW spouse has domestic violence issues and goes to the elders, they are going to pull the WT article(s) out as reference when 'counseling' the spouse.

Despicable, yes. But it is also typical, as this is the standard WT doublespeak. Say one thing to outsiders, indoctrinate the followers differently.

i just love the statement "instead of eulogizing the deceased, use the material in this outline to give a fine witness concerning the truth.

" in other words, utterly disregard the deceased.

The last JW funeral I went to, the speaker wandered away from the WT script somewhat. He did a pretty good job of talking about the actual deceased(aside from JW stuff). I was impressed early on. I think because there was a lot of non-JW family present, he felt the need to tailor at least part of the talk to appeal to them...or at least suck them into his confidence. That's where he was a sneaky bastard. We were all feeling warm and fuzzy about her experiences that he shared and then... he dropped the guilt bomb. Her favoritest thing to do in the world, according to him, was to talk to others about God and his promises for mankind. He then went into full WT mode, laying it on thick. Non-JWs may have felt like they were being preached to a bit too much to their liking, but all the dubs in attendence pretty much left feeling like they needed to step up their game a good bit in order to be accepted by Jehovah. Oh, he was good, no dobut about it. Too bad it was at the expense of someone's death that he was afforded the oppurtunity to further indoctrinate people.

) in this particular article titled " for those loving jehovah, " there is no stumbling block " - the wt society stoops to new, or rather re-hashed lows to insinuate that most if not all jw's really misunderstand causes of stumbling as it's just their minds that are imperfect, messed up, or gone entirely anyway.

the first abhorrent bit of information here describes a witness man who " fought " with feelings of being homosexual and of course the elders thought they had the perfect antidote to keep him from his alleged " abnormal " desires.

They encouraged him to thrw his burden on Jehovah and stressed that the most important thing was to please God.

I actually like this one. If you're being interrogated by two SS officers elders, all you have to say is, "I've thrown my burden on Jehovah. It's in his hands. He knows my heart. I am at peace. You may go now"

Review of Memorial Talk

this is my personal review of the memorial talk for this year.

take into account that this is a new "outline".

i put "outline" in quotes because.

I see no earth-shaking revelation about the "reduced" status of the anointed.

They avoid the use of the term "Faithful and Discreet Slave class", which is what the annointed used to be considered. Now they're just "the annointed". Same basic talk, minus mention of the F&DS and none of the dubs will catch the change.
