  Similarly, never refer to Americans as 'Colonials' - it can only offend.

  If you visit down South, don't refer to Americans as Yanks - it can only get you hurt.

  Seriously though, the first place to go is New York, then DC. After that, it depends on preferences. Mountains or coast, east or west, north or south. Every region has great places to go. There's no way to see it all, most Americans haven't.

  Interesting question. Years ago, I'd say they were treated pretty good for the most part. Occasionally there was the stubborn, hard to deal with older one who tended to drive people away and thus complained about everything. I remember brothers getting together to do repair work on their homes and cars. I remember the younger sisters picking them up for meetings, service, doctor's appts and shopping. But somewhere over time it seems that the self-sacrificing spirit in helping others died down. Getting to meetings, service, caring for the family, etc was wearing everyone down, and people didn't have time to do anything else anymore. The older ones were left to fend for themselves more and more. Not too bad for those that had family, but before I faded, I remember a couple of older ones who were just pretty much ignored anymore. People offered to carry them to meetings or service, but the personal touch wasn't there anymore.

  Star Trek. I remember that the original Star Trek with Kirk and Spock created a little bit of concern. Seems that evolution was prevelant on the show, so, guess what? It wasn't suitable for Christians.

  I can't think of any true psychopaths, but there sure were some freakoids around. The pioneer sister who refused to shave her legs(this ain't France, mow them walkers). A brother who thought his pets talked to him (in English). The CO who condemned the entire congregation because their hours went down. We had lost Jehovah's spirit and we might as well join the world because we were wasting our time coming to the hall. The elder who went around and tugged on brother's hair. If it was too long, he told them to get a haircut. I'll think of more(and better ones) later I'm sure.

  I'm not sure if I've got this straight, but, the legal entity of Jehovah's Witnesses is run by a different group than the GB. The GB are basically just church leaders in charge of doctrinal issues and such while the legal corporation runs everything else. I'm sure somebody can explain it better.

  can a baptized witness attend a wedding or a funeral of a relative or loved one if it is in a place of worship other than a kingdom hall,is there a penalty for that?

  This is another one of those deals where what's written and what's said doesn't always jive. There might not be any outright condemnation in print about the subject but if one is reliant on the elders for decision making, they might get the recommendation that it's displeasing to God somehow by going inside a structure of false religion. It also depends on the conservativeness of the local congregation or area. As stated in another thread, it's better to make your own decisions based on what the BIBLE says and not seek the elders' opinions, preferences or their permission.

  Tex,

  I remember some of what you have said you have gone through in your past. That picture you posted gave me chill bumps when I looked at it. Putting faces with the stories really hit home. I can't imagine how it must have been to go through what you did. My heart goes out to you and anyone who has ever had to deal with similar situations.
