here are just a few thoughts to discuss and to keep myself distracted for now.. there are only two organizations that routinely reward and bless major screw-ups:.

1) government agencies.

2) the watchtower society.

Great post! I know this demon crap all to well. My mother was notorious for blaming EVERYTHING on the demons. If I had nightmares, it was demons. If we heard strange sounds in the house at night, it was demons. If something happened before the meeting started that prevented us from going, yep, you guessed it, DEMONS! Busy critters aren't they?? I think that if you believe in demons enough, you can actually make weird things happen! I think it happened to us once or twice. Guess they figured they might as well make it good and give my mom something to talk about! HA HA!!

does anyone remember a few years ago when the society supposedly made a rule about kingdom ministries, that only publishers putting in service time were supposed to have them?

well, about 3 years ago, i went to a bookstudy, after being inactive for awhile and trying to go back to meetings, anyway, one of the elders saw a kingdom ministry in my bookbag and asked me," where did you get that "?

i told them an elder had given it to me.

I didn't know that this had been going on for so long. The way it was presented to me was that this was a new policy from the society-geez, maybe we are more rural than I think........

I told them an elder had given it to me. He then said," well, you are not supposed to have it, they are for active pubs. only"! I felt like a piece of trash and was embarrassed. He then told me if I was intending on going out in service, it would be OK to keep it.

Talk about getting kicked when your down. What is happening with the society anymore?? What is the big deal with things like this??

I also recently had an elder tell me that I can no longer receive Magazines at the Kingdom Hall because I don't attend enough meetings. He says they cost money and it is a waste. That's what I call real Christian encouragement there huh??

What a friggin'zoo.

anyway, a topic that has been on my mind for a while is that of sterilization(vasectomies, tubal ligations), there was a questions from readers in a wt about 2 years ago on whether or not it was proper to get these surgeries.

Good points. Why should the society spend time worrying about not appointing brothers who have had vasectomies but they can allow a complete jackass to have privliges............Just doesn't make sense anymore.

hello guys,.

i must say that being labeled an apostate has made my life quite interesting.

i'm shunned every day at cosmetology school and the town i live in is small and i run into jw's all the time.

Just a quick observation,

I have been inactive for a while now, and I am not included in the JW gatherings much anymore. But recently, I recieved an invitation in the mail to come to a jewelry party being given by a sister in the cong.........Funny, when they want to make a buck off of you, suddenly, you're alright to have around!!

What a joke.

Anyway, a topic that has been on my mind for a while is that of sterilization(vasectomies, tubal ligations), There was a questions from readers in a WT about 2 years ago on whether or not it was proper to get these surgeries. I was amazed at the answers the Society had. They mentioned that sterilization was " interfering with our reproductive powers ", and that Jehovah may not approve of this. And then, they went on to say that if it became public knowledge that a Brother or Sister had this procedure done, that they would not qualify for any " special " privileges in the congregation, unless it was determined that the brother or sister had this done for health reasons.

Can you believe this?? This has bothered me for so long. If the society is going to go to the length of saying sterilization is " probably" wrong, then why not ban all birth control use?? It ALL interferes with reproductive powers.

I can't believe that a brother or sister could not be used in the cong. for this!! How in the heck does this interfere with you're spirituality anyway???? Another case in point: A friend of mine here, who is a brother, was considering getting a vasectomy as his wife had a great deal of trouble having their child. Heavy bleeding, etc. And, they also did not want anymore children, Well, the elders got wind of it and went to his home and informed him that if this was done, he may not be able to be used in the cong. He was furious. Told them basically to mind they're own business. It never ceases to amaze me what they don't think of next.

Talk about being nit-picky!!!

one comment i hear from my jw son a lot is that "the organization (capital o!

) is made up of imperfect men, so they make mistakes.

" what are some answers to that?

I have recently begun to think that when a JW makes that remark about being " imperfect " , it really is a cop-out. I have had Elders make some of the most assinine mistakes, I am talking brainless decisions, and been told, " well, they are imperfect ". They always say this to shift the blame from themselves. WE are always the ones who need the attitude adjustment, not the society. Case in point: I asked an Elder a few years back what recourse do Witnesses have if they have a complaint against an Elder or maybe a complaint about a Judicial Committee, etc. I asked about calling the Society. This Elder proceeded to tell me that if they get a call from the society after recieving a complaint, all the elders have to do is tell them that the situation is being handled and the society will not question the matter further!! Talk about no way out. How could you possibly win when there is no responsiblity on the part of the local elders and the society! Who can you go to to get results? It seems there is no one. Again, WE have to change our attitudes. WE are viewing things wrong. WE need to rely on Jehovah. WE need to realize our brothers are imperfect. Can you see the message being sent here?? No one takes any responsibility in the matter. Kind of like passing the buck.

Do you have to be part of organized religion?

ok. this is my first thread and i am very interested to see the kinds of responses i get.

my question to you all is do you beleive you have to be a member of some type of organized religion in order to have god's approval?

i was raised in jw household, never baptized.

Hi Tru,

Very interesting thoughts indeed. I agree with Lilacs comment on organized religion. How do we know that the scripture about getting out of her, Babylon the Great, might not apply to ALL org. religions. The JWs since their beginning have always referred to OTHER religions as part of Babylon the Great, NEVER themeselves. But, again, even the JWs were started by a man! So, it may very well apply to JWs as well.

As far as you're mother is concerned, I think it is terrible that the JWs started fading away as she attended less and less meetings. How cold can people be?? I think it is just more of the " punishment " thing, if you don't attend enough meetings, people start shunning you in a sense. JWs seem to think that if you don't attend enough meetings that they have a God given right to punish you for it, by leaving you out of gatherings, not calling to see how you are, etc. just bascially ignoring you. I know, I am inactive and I am really getting it from different ones. Real nice isn't it!
