when out in the ministry, jw's are quick to tell householders that the bible doesn't teach the "trinity" or the "rapture," because these words don't occur in the bible, well how about the following expressions?.
(1) governing body.
(2) the "composite sign" jesus gave.

hey all,.
i've been out all day, so i apologize in advance if anyone already posted this info.. one of my jw relatives (whom i happened to see while visiting my dad this afternoon) told my mother that she'd have to "turn in her ticket to the elders to get a replacement.
" from what she said, they've changed the color of the ticket.
"tickets"? for "Special Assemblies"?
I heard of tickets only for MS and Elders perhaps, but "tickets" for the general publishers
as well?
Having to show a ticket to get into the assembly?
what is going on with the Watchtower? I thought they have been saying recently
that they are not a "Secret Society"!
This arrangement with tickets proves that they ARE a secret, closed society!

remember the orange julius hamburger and drink stands?
their old logo was of a red devil with a pitchfork, and.
the motto for their drink was "a devilishly good drink".
Remember the Orange Julius Hamburger and Drink stands?
Their old logo was of a red Devil with a pitchfork, and
the motto for their drink was "A Devilishly Good Drink"
(I thought their hamburgers were pretty good also)
How many JWs do you think avoided Orange Julius because of the
logo and slogan?
Could you imagine stopping for an Orange Julius after service?
"Pardon me, brother, but what is that written on the drink you
are drinking?"
It would be really good to try an place the recent Watchtower
with the cover article "Does the Devil Really Exist" at Orange
Julius stands!
Here is a recipe for the Orange Julius drink, now JWs can
enjoy the "Devilishly Good" Beverage at home without fear of
stumbling anyone!

P.S. Alas, time has moved on, the Orange Julius corporation
has moved away from the old Devil logo and slogan!
But never mind! The fact is, history shows that Orange Julius
had an association with the Devil! That is enough for the JWs
to avoid it.
barbara anderson's attention was called to the thread about the differences in policy of great britain and the us regarding child abuse; as you know she has championed a change in that policy.
another post caught her eye, and she expressed the desire to share some thoughts with you.
i'm delighted to share her first post, which i know you will find riveting.
Didn't Alfred Korzybski promote some fringe ideas concerning logic,
philosophy and cybernetics? I think he had a cult following of some sort.
i went to the homepage for ray franz' commentary press, and i found an article there promoting the idea that genesis teaches a local flood.
the author believes the genesis flood actually happened, as a local event, and that an ark actually were floating on top of local flood waters in the mesopotamia area some thousand years ago.
i recognized many arguments from a talk carl olof jonsson gave at a "christian freedom" seminar in sweden in, i think, 1996, so i guess that this article, too, is written by coj.
I am going to keep asking this question until someone posts an answer...
If a Great Flood covered the earth, how did the fresh water fish keep alive?

for those who want to see the original july 1, 1943 watchtower article "righteous requirements" on which i based a parody a few days ago, check out these pages:.
the article preceding this one, "supreme court interprets" is extremely instructive about the loonieness of the society's leaders, and shows how they make almost direct claims of inspiration.
if there's enough interest, i'll put up the nine jpg's of that one, too.. alanf
Thanks for making those files available Alan,
and, yes! please do post the files for the other article.
The more proof of the strange thinking of the WT, the better!

i have classified the books by furuli and stafford to the same pile as a. h. mcmillan's book faith on the march.
it's just one way in their trying to have an influence on those people who can't be reached by the ordinary forms of witnessing or to whom the wt literature don't appeal to.
it's sad the wts has to use these kinds of pseudo-scholarly writers or pseudo-objective methods in their trying to advance their interests.
"...Especially that book of Furuli shows that C.-O. Jonsson's has caused the WTS a lot of trouble"
What is "that" book of Furuli's?
with respect to the article on the back page of the september 2001 km which has been reproduced in another thread, it is my hope that all hard-working jehovahs witnesses consider the balanced counsel provided in the official journal of jehovahs witnesses, the watchtower, as highlighted herein:.

Sounds like an over correcting, unstable feedback loop!
System needs more damping! :)
i was speaking to a friend who is a j.w and asked her a couple of questions, the first one was that if god created everything perfect why did he give a bird wings when it is to heavy to fly ie:the ostrich,my second was that when the great flood receaded and all life was destroyed what did the lions, tigers and all the other meat eating animals do for food, the answer she gave me was that they ate plants and things?was she winding me up?im still waiting for the ostrich answer.
What I still want to know is....where did the FRESH WATER fishes go during the Flood?
no one has ever given me an answer to this question.
Maybe I should write the Watchtower for an answer? (as if they would know!)

persecution: sometime around late 1973 early 1974, when jws everywhere were in eager anticipation of armageddon breaking out, we also feared something else.
prior to armageddon, there would be the great tribulation, and just about this time we expected heavy persecution, so much so, that is was hard to help bible studies (newbies) to get over this fear.. service meeting part: during a service meeting, the elder giving the part was speaking about such persecution and of course all this was prefaced with our obedience to jehovah and his organization, doing all the works, meetings, etc.
.... ... as he spoke, there was suddenly loud banging on all of our entry-exit doors.
Hi r51785,
I remember Vincent Mancuso from the time he and his wife lived in San Diego, I believe
they both live somewhere in Arizona now. My family had them over for dinner many
times.
I remember one story Vincent told about the convention he attended in 1950, Vincent
said that the attendees knew some sort of announcement was going to be made about
"the Princes." There was much excitement, and they were looking carefully at the older
men in attendance, especially if they were wearing beards, they thought they might
be some of the ancient worthies resurrected!
But the announcement was that the "Princes" are the elders who lead the congregations!
