by BluesBrother ini have received a reply from the society regarding this issue.
sorry, no scanner but quoted below .there was just an introduction and concluding paragraph in addition to this :-.

Long assemblies
by freedom96 inthere have been a couple of postings lately about long assemblies.. does anyone remember these, or maybe even attended them?.
i was just a young child in the early 70's and something tells me i remember a long assembly, but don't remember if it was 8 days.. how long were they exactly, and what times.
what the hell did they talk about???.

Long 8-day assemblies were both a showy display and a money maker for the Watchtower. But now it is too expensive to have such long assembies. --VM44

PAGAN SYMBOLS & THE BORG
by Mary in.
does the society have any sort of explanation as to why they condone absolutely ever pagan symbol in relation to all the worldly holidays, but allow all christians to wear a wedding ring, a totally pagan symbol that originated in egypt?.
or are we showing a lack of faith by asking such a question..........

Russell's "Studies in the Scriptures" books were published with a golden Egyptian "Winged Sun Globe" symbol on the covers. So did "The Finished Mystery" book that was commissioned by Rutherford in 1918. This sun symbol represented an ancient Egyptian god, I believe either Ra or Horus, and this was well known in the late 19th century. The question is....Why did Russell feel that a pagan symbol representing an Egyptian god was appropriate to place on books explaining the Bible? --VM44

Would The Society Ever Lie To You?
by minimus inafter reading about how we now have an increase in the lord's organization, i must wonder whether we think that their data is reliable.
the society has used "theocratic stratergy" for years and lied about anything that is in their best interests.
why take any stock in what they say about anything.

If a person is at a convention, and is hungry, wouldn't they be entitled to know if the vending machine is in working order? --VM44

Placing "Out of Order" signs on vending machines that are in working order at conventions is lying! It also gives an indication of how the Organization views and treats its members! I was actually thinking of writing the Society, and pointing out that the use "Out Of Order" signs is lying to the people at the assemblies. Think they would respond to me? --VM44

Watchtower "Birth of a Nation" article
by VM44 inthe watchtower published a controversial article in the 1920s entitled "birth of a nation.
" this article published for the first time the belief now held by the jehovah's witnesses that god's kingdom was established in the heavens in the years 1914/18.
does anyone know if this article is on the internet somewhere?

The Watchtower - Hustling Pocket Change
by metatron inapparently, at some assembly halls they are removing the pay phones and replacing them with their own phone lines - with a contribution box next to it.. you may already know about district assemblies where they put 'out of order' signs.
on working vending machines to prevent the rank and file from using them.. how much money do they expect to make from this?
they are trying to hustle pocket change!.
