What was the "logical straw" that broke your camel's back?

i had a bunch of tiny little nags that always bothered me about the bible/god/etc.

that eventually led to me drifting away, but this was my personal, singular issue that no one could address.

i think i mentioned it before here, but, for summation again:.

For me it was the Neanderthals and the flood. Then when I found the quote mining as I honestly tried to study the new creation brochure I was rocked to my core. I could mentally gymnastic my way around the society not fully understanding Neanderthals, until I realized that screwed up the original sin concept. And if original sin goes then what about Jesus? If Adam and Eve are not real then Jesus goes poof. That was tough for me to digest. I stayed confused and drank too much for a year and a half. Then I owned up to the fact that I needed to confront my questions. I quit drinking. I went ahead and thought the whole Neanderthal, Adam, flood, and Jesus problem through. It just can't fit.

Then the quote mining showed me it wasn't just that the "brothers" were behind the times or needed "new light", no they were intentionally misleading people with the quote mining. What else were they misleading about? Floodgates were opened.

in a cong of about 70 publishers only about 50 regularly attend.. out of those 50 the majority are women, some single but a fair few whose husbands don't come anymore.. the only men that do attend are the elders, ms and a couple who tag along with their wives.. so in total there are probably only about 15 males in attendance at best.. we have had several local needs over the recent past encouraging sisters to turn over their male return visits.

to bros, and for bros that go in fs to ask to speak to the man of the house (but i am sure that is the same everywhere).

my question is are men more likely to wake up first and if so what could be the reason for this?.

Interesting observation. The WT themselves in their marriage talks like to say that men are logical and women are emotional. Although I now find that kind of mysogonistic thinking extremely annoying, they may have drummed it into the JW thinking enough to cause it to be somewhat true in this case??? I dont know. But my mom as an example has no hope of ever waking up. I think my dad does...

The King of eternity's magical flood killed all but true believers, 8 of them. Then 100 years later there were so many bad people who didn't know about the magical god of the flood that they built cities in opposition??? What horrible grandparents the flood survivors all were. They didn't teach their children about god I guess.

100 years after a flood that covered the tallest mountains on earth wouldn't there still be debris and destruction? Yet, a tiny band of people built giant cities in opposition to god so he had to confuse their languages?

Do athiests believe it's possible that aliens, not all powerful God created man?

i've sort of mentioned this as a different possibility in response to other threads but i was curious if any of you athiests all think that life just evolved on this earth from single cell organisms or if you ever thought it's possible that intelligent life long ago w/ advanced science could have made humans and much of life on earth and just dumped it here or made it here.

i'm not making this thread to debate, i am just curious if any of you have come up with other ideas on your own as possibilities since all we have for the origin of life are just theories right now.

No matter how large the odds were, life will always eventually happen because you have an endless amount of time to make it happen. So it's like playing the lottery forever. If you played it forever you would eventually win.

i have been going to meetings since i was a child, long story short only recently i've started taking the truth seriously, i am not baptized but just an unbaptized publisher.

truth is i am so lonely in the congregation.

the other young people in the cong don't like me because they dont think i am going to "stay" for long, i've even worked on the ministry with an older brother and asked her am i giving the wrong impression to people?

Please go to www.jwfacts.com and read a Bit. I was born a JW. I pioneered from young teenage hrs through early pioneers serving as a Ministerial Servant. I had parts on assemblies and loved being a witness. I tell you this not to "brag" or try to make my past JW life bigger than it was. There are many ex-elders on here and even ex-bethelites. I just want you to know that I was not a typical apostate like the WT paints the picture.

I realized I had been taught some falsehoods and that I wanted to live my life my own way about a year aNd a half ago. Don't make my same mistakes! Dont get baptized. Run.

I think most intelligent and logical people would acknowledge something like that could be possible. That doesn't mean they think its the answer or they think its likely. But, I admit its possible.

Arguments to prove Noah's Ark story is just a myth

i've been thinking for a while about the topic mentioned in the title and came to the conclusion that the flood story from the bible provides a very good starting point for proving the bible wrong.. in the following paragraphs i'll be only presenting ideas and potentially logic errors, and possible answer.

i didn't do any serious research yet, for in order to answer various questions a good base in specific branch of science is required.. according to the bible (the internet) the volume of the ark was 137.16 m * 22.86 m * 13.716 m = 43006 cubic meters (roughly).

if we was to subtract the volume of the interior structure (elements like walls, stairs, etc.

The flood waters lasted a year. Coral reefs in freshwater for a yr? Trees and plants living submerged for a year? earth worms lived underwater for a year? Why are there poisinous snakes right now? Wouldn't Noah have taken just the nice "kind"?

for example because of eating habits changing, our jaws have become smaller and we don't need wisdom teeth.

or the effect of the sun on our skin, etc.

Snare I agree with you. I wasn't trying to take the easy way... I've read several books, but I'm not great at this type of stuff. i just wanted to be sure I understood it correctly. I wondered if my example of a cold weather change like an ice age and then natural selection ensuring longer hair and more fat was sound.

The way they acted about you being there is just wrong... I understand actually that the motives were most likely kindhearted and done with good intentions. But, the things they did were one of my pet peeves when I was in and serving in the hall. I always commented on what NOT to do with "weak ones", and they gave a classic example of all the wrong things.

You don't say, "Hi Brother Preston!!!!! We have missssssssed you! It's so great to see you!!!!!"

You do say, "Hi Brother Preston. I know you like to (insert hobby like golf, hike, jog, work in your yard, tennis). Have you had any good (insert same hobby - hikes) lately? The weather is just getting nice enough to get back out there for that! I bet you are looking forward to that.)

Hopefully a conversation ensues.

Just be a normal human being!!!! Talk normal to the person so they don't feel uncomfortable and afraid to come back. No one likes to be embarrassed and put on the spot.
