This weeks #2 & #3 talk on homosexuality
by granada35 inafter a one year sucessful fade and no longer associated with any congreation, i was visiting my sister this week (who goes to the meeting to please her husband for now; i am slowly planting seeds though) and they decided to year this weeks midweek meeting via the telephone.
since i was a guest in her house, i sat with them in the living room to hear the meeting.
to my surprise (especially growing up as a gay jw with still alot of anger in my heart over how i was treated), the talks 2 and 3 where on, of course, homosexualiy.

I really don't understand this
by keyser soze inwhy, if you're a health care worker who's been exposed to the ebola virus, would you get on an airplane and travel right after?.

University Application Personal Statement dilemma - Should I mention my jw past?
by will-be-apostate ini am applying to chemical engineering course in the uk through ucas (a lot of things changed since i've posted last time).. i have a lot of skills i developed while regular pioneering, like public speaking skills, ability to reason (even if it's bs), presentational skills etc.. i feel it would boost my personal statement a lot, but i'm also afraid they would say "this guy beleives in god, and loves science, he must be creationist.
away with him".. how could i mention that i gave interviews front of thousands of people and did voluntary work in my hometown without giving a bad impression?.
i don't want to go into details and start explaining myself that "however i don't beleive in god", or something like that.

Welp, now I am embarrassed. Snare&Racket has been there and done that, and is out for longer than me. So, weigh your options carefully. I trust Snare over me.

If it were me, and I was going to give out that info about the hoky crackpot religion I was in, I would give more info than less.
" I participated in conventions of the church that my family belongs to where I gave interviews about self development, time management, and personal growth by means of study habits. The ability to feel at ease in front of thousands of people is not easily learned, but I am very comfortable in the spotlight. Although I am no longer attending a church or a part of the religion I was raised in, I am happy to have developed those skills. Because of the church's influence on my parents, I was never presented with the opportunity to learn at a university. Now, that I have put my education and personal development first and foremost in my life, I have an opportunity to better myself and put some of my public speaking skills to work."
Honestly, I didn't think through what I was typing at all. It may not work for you. But, rather than hide the religion, I might be sure to let them know that although I am not religious now, at least I have a skill that could be useful to them now.
Maybe you get some pity votes too. I would choose a Muslim or a Quaker who had left their faith and were trying to better themselves over a "normal run of the mill" applicant.

Tv.jw.org - Average Jdub reaction? I'm getting NOTHING but Silence!
by 4thgen inhello all, as you know, when jw tv was announced, our board went wild.
many comments, much speculation and alot of negative feedback on the quality, etc.
well, what has me concerned is that i have not heard a peep from any of my connections left in kingdom-land.

I can't see how jw.tv could be bad for all of us who are out. My parents are the most indoctrinated and "in" jw's you can imagine (as I used to be).
My dad is an elder now for a long long time. Maybe 20 years or more. My mom is the type who goes in service by herself at 7am before meeting with the group at 9am. Always sitting around reading a magazine or studying for a meeting. Their entire world is the cult. I never pushed hard onthem actually or tried to show them how wrong it was. Because, I really feel they would break emotionally and mentally without the org and paradise making all their sacrifices worth it. I did let my dad know a couple provable things that bothered me, I know he didn't and wouldn't tell my mom. He didn't care too much about the things that really bothered me. I never discussed it being a cult, but he did get the idea that I think they are just controlling the sheeple.
Seeing jw.tv and realizing the GB are just dorky old goofballs can only be positive.

More coruption in the bible??
by Crazyguy inbelow i'll paste a good article explaining the corruption between the most high god {elyon} and yahweh the god of israel and how the writers of the bible moved this son of the most high god, yahweh in to the position of the god most high.
whats interesting to me is the writter of matthew realised the fraud by stating the messiah and son of god should be named emmanuel not jesus, matt.1:23. http://bewaredeception.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=86:yahweh-was-one-of-the-sons-of-el-elyon&catid=1:articles&itemid=3.

There was a really good show you could watch on YouTube about this. I think it may have been called the Bible unearthed or unearthing the Bible something like that. The woman in the video who narrates it is gorgeous.

NWT departure from greek meaning
by aintenoughwiskey inthe new jw library app includes the kingdom interlinear.
just by looking up the scriptures at the meeting when i went, revealed the following "departures" from the other translations:.
rev 5:10 "over the earth" vs "upon the earth".

Great post Island Man. I agree. I honestly thought that the translations meaning was specific on purpose. That it was the exact way it had happened and that god had decided to use the words used in the NWT.

Terminology the Society Hates?
by toweragent inin my most recent talk, i got counseled for using some terms that were not prefered.
for example i said "new testament" rather than "the christian greek scriptures".
i also used the term "gospel", but even worse, i made reference to the "synoptic gospels" and the "gnostic gospel".. i guess i never thought of it before, but when i looked at the societies information on the matter they always say things like, "the so-called new testament..." or "the so-called synoptic gospels..." why with all the "so-called?".

The best one is "the society". They don't call it that anymore and instruct everyone not to use that term. "It' the Christian congregation" you get told.
How condescending And arrogant. Like every other Christian religion that has ever been around is not Christian and is therefore non-existent.

Extremely interesting Bobcat and Phizzy. Isn't it amazing that at one point in our lives we didn't need to know what Greek words meant? We trusted that the words in the NWT were a hand written message to us? We believed that god had chosen every translated word in the NWT. There were no questions needed since god himself had ensured the wording was perfect for us.
