I'm on the Stage Const. Crew - Here at the Arena right now!!!
by tresdecu inafter lunch i will be the guy nail gunning the plywood letters to the top part of the stage.
so when i get to the word truth, i am going to mutter "bullshit, bullshit, bullshit....etc" the whole time i'm nailing the letters, obviously very quietly to myself.
;-) that way when i am listening to the bs tomorrow, i can smile to myself knowing the letters have been properly christened!

Found this gem in a coffee table book from 1947
by fresh prince of ohio incontext was a discussion of anti-war groups.
the caption for the pic described the jws as "pathetic" (probably reflecting the victorious postwar mood).
outlaw could probably have some fun incorporating this pic into his comments!

Hey welcome! :-) nice to have you. I just woke up this year myself, read plenty and think hard. This place is great. I would advise to start offering your opinion on threads, and to post comments. You don't have to reveal more about yourself till you want to if you ever do. But, posting here is a great way to stay sane when still in. That and anxiety meds. Ha. Good to have you!

Why does god kill children?
by Comatose ini was thinking about all the accounts in the bible that indicate god kills children as a punishment or teaching experience.
1. kills all of egypts firstborn sons, who were innocent kids who did nothing to him or his people, who had no control over the decisions pharoah made.
how many times have you read that account or thought about it without realizing the devastating pain dealt to all those parents, and remembered those were innocent kids?.

I get that mP. I post these to try to help newbies to think clearer and hopefully reach any lurkers. Plus I always hope a believer will contribute and we can have a nice clean debate. But, I think I fill the first post with so much logic that it scares believers away. There is no reasonable answer a Christian could offer.

I agree if you can stomach it try to stay in a free housing situation while getting the fullest education possible. All of my family is in currently. If you think talking on the phone would help or you ever feel panicky PM me. It does get better once you fade, but you may have to suffer through waiting on the fade while you are in school. I promise once you get older the few years you put up with it won't seem so bad.

I asked an elder I was very close to about this. This elder is in the family and I spoke freely of my sadness that a baby dies a slow painful death over a week as punishment to David. His response and I could tell he believed it was, "according to the bound volumes I researched in, it was actually loving of Jehovah to handle it this way. He could have demanded the death of David and Bathsheeba. Instead, he only took the babies life. The baby can be resurrected. So this shows us gods mercy."
He also thought it was something we did t need to worry about or understand. But, it's in the bible. The bible is inspired and 100% accurate according to JWs. How could things that are clearly disturbing just not matter?
if he had instantly killed the baby, then maybe as a still half in dub I could have believed that. Maybe I could have thought it was although not satisfactory at least an answer. But, the account says god struck the child so that it fell ill. After a week it gradually died. That's not mercy, or love. That's horrible.
How do people read the bible and come away with this glorious warm and fuzzy feeling?
Really, we poke fun at JWs for pictures of kids falling in pits at Armageddon and deride it as a cult. But, that's what the bible says. That's what the bible teaches. That's what god does in the bible. I don't want any part of that. Not just no part of JWs but no part of god or religion that thinks that's ok.
Its why I find it very strange when people leave JWs and become "true Christians".

How many times have you read that account or thought about it without realizing the devastating pain dealt to all those parents, and remembered those were innocent kids?
2. Some kids jeer at a prophet and so using Holy Spirit the prophet calls a bear to shred 42 of them. A bit extreme? The WT explanation says their parents were bad and didn't respect Jehovah or his prophet, this was a lesson for them. Again, easily overlooked is the terrible pain and anguish at the loss of a child. Why not kill the parents or smite them with a plague? Why the kids?
3. David sins with Bathsheeba, god kills the baby as punishment. In fact, the bible he struck it a blow and that it suffered for a week prior to dying. WT says this was a loving thing to do since David was worthy of death, lovingly god spared him. Screw the child though.
4. The flood, would have killed untold numbers of children.
5. He instructed the Israelites to let your heart not show mercy and to strike even the little ones as they fought their battles. In one case they bring back young ones and some grandmothers. He then has them kill the grandmas and baby boys, but they get to keep the 32k virgin girls. Odd.
6. Achin sins by stealing and his whole family is put to death. You think a little kid living back then in those adult and male dominated times would have been able to do anything about their dad stealing?
Why does god like to kill kids? In all those experiences it was unnecessary. It was chosen as a punishment or for shock value. Because the kids killed were not "gods people", we are led to feel no emotion over these deaths. As if people not a part of gods group are not like us or are subhuman and beneath our empathy. All people are equal. We all love the same. We all feel the same emotions. No child deserves to die for the wrongs of its parents. No person should be asked to callously put aside empathy and fellow feeling due to "gods will". God kills kids and there is no honest or good explanation.

What evidence is there for the miracles of the Bible OUTSIDE of the Bible?
by punkofnice inok. this is something i've wondered about.. people of certain religions tend to use their own holy book as evidence for things in itself.
this seems very circular to me.
using the book to prove the book in my view is pointless.. i am not aware of any of the 'miracles' of the bible or the quran as having any substantial evidence outside of themselves to give credibility to the books themselves.. has anyone come across such evidence?.

The WTS has an ANSWER/SPIN for everything! Acts 12:15
by Socrateswannabe inper the ministry school schedule, the bible reading continues in the book of acts.
in chapter 12 king herod arrests peter and throws him in prison, meaning to "produce him" for the jews after the passover (evidently to be executed).
an angel appears to peter in prison, releases his bonds and walks him out of the gate of the jail.

The above are all weasel words used to prop up unscriptural ideas in their writings. My favorite is "evidently".
