What started me on the path to waking up about the lies the WT teaches?
by oppostate init was a simple question: isn't jesus my "mediator" if i put faith in him like the scriptures say?
the research to that answer, from the w79 4/1 p. 31, was mind blowing.
how dare they deny me a belief firmly stated in the scriptures?

Lots of teachings didn't make sense, but topped with the continuing push to revere the elders it was all just too much.
The biggest and most personal was the continuing child abuse coverups. We thought it was only our local elders that were uncaring and unbalanced in this, but to know that it was widespread and condoned by the GB made it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for this to be god's org.

Just sitting here smh. If I were still "in", I would be so embarrassed that any doubts I might be having would be magnified tenfold.
Let's hope it has this affect on every doubting dub still stuck in.

Do you ever feel strangely drawn towards Conspiracy Theories?
by JW_Rogue inafter mentally awakening to the idea that jws don't have the truth i strangely found myself delving into all encompassing conspiracy theories.
not that i believed them but something about them seemed quite fascinating.
i was especially drawn to the idea of a new world order/one world government.

Labeling some concepts as "Conspiracy Theories" and thereby insinuating that anyone not believing as you do might speak to your history as jws. This desire to label and ridicule others is a prime tactic of the witnesses, so perhaps you might ask yourself why you feel compelled to announce your "superiority" in such a manner.
Learning TTATT is straying from the "norm" of jw beliefs. Believing in something other than what the mainstream media preaches has parallels.

Candace Conti Settles
by Nitty-Gritty inhot topic on topix seems to be candace conti settlement.
but it's all quiet here.
are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?

Nitty is full of *%#?!. When my child was molested, the elders not only told me to be quiet about it so as not to upset the congregation !!! but told me not to let anyone see that I was upset !!! (Feel the love?) I was actually told not to go back inside the hall until I had calmed down. Compassion? Not for me or my child. Never once did they ask about us...not one time. They just wanted to keep me quiet.
How dare you ever suggest that the wts cares about children and that the elders do the right thing. You should be so ashamed of yourself for defending these men who are more concerned about protecting their organization than they are about protecting innocent children.

I helped lots of down-on-their-luck moms when I was a dub, but that's just my nature and had nothing to do with the "religion". I found that even when I pioneered and my kids pioneered, being a single mom was like some kind of curse. We were excluded from dinners(always couples), gatherings (unless everyone in the cong was invited), and trips. If it wasn't for large groups taking the speaker's family to "hospitality" at restaurants, we would have hardly had any association with everyone else. My female children were excluded from bible studies with elders (because their wives were uncomfortable?) even though all the "fatherless boys" were put on pedestals and rewarded with special attention. We were also excluded from getting help, like work on our house, even when willing to pay for it. Had to pay worldly ones instead.
But the good part was that the obvious exclusion (i.e. lack of love) made me question what was going on with these people. So I guess in retrospect their lack of compassion was a good thing.

How are the JW's reacting to the new USA gay marriage laws?
by purrpurr inpersonally i think this is wonderful.
i have nothing against gay people and wish them only the best.. but of course i'm in a minority of one, the jw's around me are posting away on fb the most homophobic vitriol imaginable.
a lot of them are even saying that it's the start to armageddon!!.

Ahh, the uber moralistic witnesses. Meanwhile, the story of drunken Lot and his promiscuous daughters is swept under the rug.

Slow motion pioneers
by 1Averagejoe inobserving our local unemployed pioneers and how long they take to get to their first or next call, usually taking the longest route to get to one they know won't be there anyway.
along the way it's gossipy this and that.
pioneers?

When i was a new convert and believed all the hype, I did my best to be zealous in my activity. The piosneers I went out with had different ideas, it was they who taught me The Pioneer Shuffle. That meant "strolling down the street at a slow pace so as not to wear out doing this important work". Uh huh.
Sadly I pioneered for several years myself, but by then I realized how important the shuffle truly was. ;)
