it seems like there is a little fire starting to burn here on the subject of locking threads.
iv been on this board a long time and on average have only seen about one out of every 200 threads locked.
those who have their threads locked take it very personal, that's understandable.
"pissing on a rope" aside.............Dave's so colorful, don'tcha think?
I've never had a thread locked of mine - should I be insulted as not being controversial enough? I've complained a time or two........but I tend to be ignored then too, albeit civilly in a British sorta way.
Btw, what's "rampany" Simon? You're either going to have to actually use your spellcheck or clue us in to what sort of English grammer you're using.
Thanks for the stats, Simon. The following quote was given to us at a business seminar. Appropriate to the situation....and true.
When it happens to me - it's a disaster."
When it happens to you - get over it."
well i have been thinking about this and was wondering if anyone was interested in contributing some holiday recipes for a special edition of food in due season - the jwd holiday cookbook.
some of us have been out for a while and have begun to establish special holiday traditions.
for some this whole idea of celebrating holidays is rather new.
Lady Lee spawned our cookbook.
Quite nicely spawned too.
She's a good quality spawner.
*Spawn*'s just one of those words not used enough, eh? Rather like "thusly."
However, my spawning ability doesn't tend to be in the area of cooking. I collect cookbooks rather than spawn them. Thusly, (not used wisely here) I spawn things in the garden. I'll leave the interpretation up to the reader.
Interesting ways to celebrate the holidays? Decorate - and go eat at somebody else's house. I can't do both yet.
.
well i have a cover.
it can be changed if we want something different but here is a sample.
actually, lee, if you don't stop "bttt" which we most likely pronounce "butt" (I do anyway)................
if you keep butting, some people might get the wrong impression of you.
I love the way your idea turned out - it turned out OUR cookbook - and glad if Simon got some benefit......'cause he sure has benefited us!
I still like your famous cat muffins 'though. Make many a dog happy.
Looking forward to our X'Jehovah's Witness Holiday Recipes Edition!

This is really just a push to the front page...............because if anyone hasn't bought the first cookbook....BUY IT!
I downloaded it (after honestly buying it) to paper, and also to CD (after SevenOfNine told me that). Some really great recipes! The front cover is pretty - and I bought a binder with clear plastic cover - sliding LLee's pretty cover picture under the clear.
It's now Very Professional Looking!
Of course, I never use it as I don't like to cook....but that's another story.

has anyone seen the news about jessica lynch's book (which isn't even written yet).
on the news last night the father of one of lynch's company of soldiers was on tv stating that since his son was part of her experience that she should share the profits from her book.
his son was killed in that battle in iraq.
For all the discussion - I really don't see why people would bother whether this woman would write (or have someone write) a book about her experience.
Remember that book "Bonfire of the Vanities"......and the phrase......"man of the moment"? It used to be man of the year, book of the month............now publicity & attention is down to the "moment." Remember the movie "Chicago"? The woman murderer of the moment? Take advantage of the moment.
And, yes, being a young woman in the military in a war - well, that makes her the "woman of the moment."
JT mentioned Pet Rocks above............do you know that there are actually several books on how to paint on rocks....thus making them pets? And people are paid good money to write those books!
If a publisher thinks he/she can make a buck..........they will. If someone doesn't want to read her book - then don't buy it.

have any of you on this forum, ever met up with anyone considered famous?
i've met a great deal of people over the years.
one of my most memorable: dennis leary, drinking a few pints with him as he sang "margaritaville" from the jukebox.
No.
many ancients including confucious and lao tzu took opposing views about this subject and their arguments are fascinating to read.
their arguments are nearly 2,500 years old.
the greeks also lively debated this question.. of course, as dubs (and in fact, in most christian faiths) we were taught that man was born inherently evil, and the quest is to overcome that and work towards the good.
Good thing Pat is my sister. I agree with her, and am somewhat in awe of her total response.
So, it would seem to me that the question is flawed in that it presupposes the terms "evil" or "good" are applicable. An accurate question is "Is it nature (genetic), nurture, or choice?" The answer would have to be a combination of all three.
"Is it nature (genetic), nurture, or choice?" is being debated by psych & soc researchers still today. It's almost never totally one or the other.........but a combination which makes the human animal tick.
We are born neither evil nor good. We are simply born. Evil and good are societal/ethical/religious labels attached to us by others, or expected of us to attach to ourselves. -CraigWhich fits in too. We are simply born with our genetic makeup....then we're nurtured (or not)....and we make choices. But at birth? Neither good nor evil....just a baby.

Interesting thread. Thanks to all posters for the back/forth of both sides.
I've never been in a war position, sand storm, guns shooting at me, shot at another person........heard/seen any kind of "blank"........nor military encounter. Therefore, it would be hard for me to know exactly how military would respond in a warzone.
Thankfully.
For those who have - and who have helped other people.......thank you.
Thanks for the insight, Yeru.

i know that i don't post often, but i read this board daily.
anyway, i just wanted to pass on the information that my father passed away last week.
he was 81 and in semi-poor health.
Hello Alana,
Unlike the normal talks, which hardly spoke about the deceased and just preached to people, the brother who did the talk did an excellent job. He spoke alot about my dad, his likes, events in his life, and the talk was not too "JW-like". That meant alot to me, as well as to my worldly relatives.
I've never been to a jw funeral talk like that either. Such a pleasant change for you and your relatives. Makes sense when one thinks about it.
People were not snotty to me, as I expected. I am not DF'd or DA'd, but some in the past have chosen to shun me or cut me off from communications. But even those spoke to me and were kind.
It's good to know that jw's can act just like other folks sometimes - civil, and even kind.
I'm glad it worked out for you and your fiance. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding! (I'm assuming on that one.)
