  Older ones here, what do you remember being told about 1975 ???

  i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.

  what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?

  Hey cyberguy,

  I was in Indiana during the time of the pamphlet blitz. In our area, each publisher received 50 personal copies to rush to our unknown worldly converts. We were just to knock, give a 5/10 second presentation....& give pamphlet.

  "At least NOW no one can say 'but nobody warned me!' "

  NO publisher could admit to being weak enough not to place *just 50* to save sooooo many lives. Some dumb brothers (and sorry, it was always brothers) would come up to others and say "I've placed ALL my pamphlets already.....do you need help in placing yours?" Then the same jerks would go to the next person and say the same thing, but adding "and I helped poor sister weak place hers too."

  There were about 6 of those pamphlet campaigns?

  Rain, snow, whatever.....no excuses accepted.

  Yuck.

  Armageddon? Nope! No King of the North!

  the russian army is a complete mess and they admit as much.. .

  no king of the north?

  no fufillment of prophecy, no armageddon.. how can they continue to preach "the end is near" ?

  Seems the WT is remaining mute (for a change) on the King of the North thing.

  Locals speculate all over the place - usually the deep thinkers wannabe's. After 9/11 - a jw sister I know told me "I can't WAIT to see how the Society interprets this attack in relation to the new King of the North!"

  As I stuttered in disbelief, I realized - ain't no sense in talking to that one. Truly braindead.

  Sinuitis and a cure?

  for the past two months, i have been fighting one cold after another, but what seems to never leave is the burning in my nose and throat.

  six days ago my doctor perscribed cephalexin 500mg (antibiotic), but so far i am still miserable.

  while looking online, many websites want to sell their various cures, usually for about $35.00 us.

  Just saw this thread -and read every word! Thanks, been working up a nasty head cold/sinus yuk since Saturday.

  And it's getting worse. So I'll go get some of this stuff.

  they had the co last week, and of course dave and i were part of the elder's meeting agenda.

  my friend has just had a conversation with one of the elders, who told her about it because it involved her.

  Hey Mulan,

  A LOT of jw's have had similar experieces when buying objects - jw's have been taught it's their God Given Right to check out (they don't call it spying) what their spiritual brothers are doing...."to keep the congregation clean." Sisters have reported on what pictures are in a house....what garden ornaments are in the backyard.....all kinds of crap.

  Last year I was in a store around xmas & a brother & sister saw me. He came over to my cart and actually moved things around to check if what I was buying was xmas related.

  Sad to say, many of us used to be like that..........we were taught by the Watchtower to spy - and it's a natural gossipy thing to do for a lot of people - even without God's Command to do it.

  yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.

  i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.

  as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?

  "Congratulations" - WHY?

  why is it a social custom to say "congratulations" to a guy when his wife/gf has had/is having a baby?.

  what has he done to deserve the sentiments?

  all he's done is have an orgasm and spurt some semen into her?

  Blondie made a good point..........congratulations are due to the WHOLE FAMILY!

  Why? Because a new family member is coming shortly (or arrived) - and it's a time of JOY. Hard work, tears, stinky smells, grumbling, .......on and on and on and on and on.......but also laughter, love, snuggling, ........on and on and on and on and on.

  Babies are the promise of tomorrow in many ways.

  Perhaps, Prisca, when you have a baby - you'll want to share the good news with the father? Well, is that much different than saying congratulations to the father - who is sharing the same good news?

  The father (if he sticks around & tries) does MUCH. Perhaps not the birth.....but then blame evolution as that's the way it goes.

  Imho, the more involved the father is throughout pregnancy, birth, care & loving.......the stronger the bond with child. The more he shuns away, or the mother keeps him away, the tendency for him to stay away emotionally & physically.

  Btw, a MALE just spurts some sperm. A FATHER sticks around to help, nurture, support, love, etc. Can be the same - and can be incredibly different. .

  Congratulations to ALL the fathers.....they earn it too. Particularily guys who really do the roll of a good dad.

  The Preaching Work Is The Biggest Scam Happening On Jehovah's Witnesses!

  the most useless work a jw can do is preach!

  the watchtower society said that every baptized person, whether they be male or female, child or adult, is a minister!

  and the society says every minister must do a "life-saving work" and "preach the good news of the kingdom".

  Such an interesting thread - and I can only write about my experiences with 30 yrs active jw woman.

  I liked going out in service with the other women.....particularily in the country & long coffee breaks. Nice friendships sometimes.

  I didn't like going out with my children or anybody else's children...kids just don't like it for some, unknown reason.

  • I felt like I HAD to get my hours in - in order not to be killed by Jehovah at Armageddon - and if I wasn't saved, neither were my small children (just like having to go to meetings) - and then Jehovah would kill them at Armageddon too.
  • I felt like I HAD to talk with others - in order to give them the chance not to be killed by Jehovah at Armageddon. And if I didn't preach, then I would be blood guilty.....and possibly my kids & I would be killed at Armageddon by Jehovah.

  So the love I was sharing with strangers was the love of *saving* them from being killed by Jehovah or living in a Paradise Earth by Jehovah.

  lol - it's perfectly clear why the preaching work is a "life saving work". The life you save is your own & your kids....and maybe someone else.

  We were taught that few persons would "just die" at Armageddon...old age, sickness. The vast majority of adults & children dead at Armageddon were to be killed by Jehovah God - in the "Day of His Vengence."

  Did I get the wrong Christmas Ornaments?

  i have a small tree so i got a package of small ornaments that are about 2 inches in diameter.

  when i bought them i did not notice that the tops do not have hooks like i expected, instead they have very small loops.

  these loops are too small to slide on to the branches of the tree, so am i supposed to use little twist-ties or something?

  Check the sales after Christmas.........but go back later.......they keep marking down & down & down.

  Go to specialty stores - they have gorgeous stuff & by end of Jan or mid Feb - 80/90% off. Amazing.

  Oh! I forgot to mention........put your gifts UNDER your tree BEFORE Christmas. I forgot to do that last year....and it looked kinda barren. Couldn't figure out why, duh.

  Couple of days before Christmas, looked at some mags and New Light! Took the wrapped gifts from the spare bedroom, put under tree & Merry Cozy Christmas! (I don't tell anyone who's not an xjw about this - they just wouldn't understand.)

  If I can get better at it..........anybody can. This year? The whole xjw family is at our house on Christmas Eve....with appropriate gifts under lighted & ornamented fake tree with appropriate good smelling candle burning for proper tree aroma.

  And a good bottle of wine.
