Just As A Matter Of Curiosity..........

just as a matter of curiosity i was wondering if any of you know of anybody who has read raymond franz' 'crisis of conscience' and who actually remained a jw?

i have sent and lent this book to a number of people within the wts, even a co, all of whom left eventually.

one person remained due to domestic issues, but resigned from all his duties and remains as such.

I remember being a jw when the Malawi/Mexico horror happened. Of course, being a faithful jw......I never knew about the Mexico portion until I read & viewed the copied documents in CofC.

But I would never read the book until I was ready. AlanF made the best point some years ago: (paraphrasing)

A JW won't look around (or leave) until something personal hits him.

I agree. I wouldn't. Then something personally BIG happened to me........and I looked. I typed "Jehovah's Witnesses" into the internet (first time on the net btw) - and never stopped reading. CofC was the first literature I purchased from AN APOSTATE. lol - I called Randy, I was so nervous talking to AN APOSTATE. My voice was obviously nervously shaking. He was so nice thinking "poor, delusional, jw woman."

But I think a person must be slightly willing or ready to have their personal blinders removed.

CofC definitely helped. But the internet sites were "priceless."

Danish accuser admits it was all just lies!

the danish newspaper which has told so many stories about youths being molested in denmark by jws recently, today brings the story that the woman who came forth with the most sensational ones of these stories, how she and others were molested by groups of elders during baptismal preparations etc.

- to the police has admitted it was all nothing but lies.. i just wonder if silentlambs and the danish posters here will be as quick to bring these news and the translation out to the people just as quickly as they did when the original story was given by the newspaper?.

Usually, people with the same hobby tend to hang out with people of like interests....or, at least, have a sense of radar who's of like thinking with them.

Look at all the groups around us - there's a gathering of nearly every kind - and those are the legal types of activities. There are gatherings of drug users, sales for guns, yada yada.

So why is it such a stretch that persons who have a sexual interest in children might occasionally form small groups/friendships/whatever?

Obviously, not all do this..........but to say it's not done is unrealistic. Human nature likes company.

As for this specific case? I hope the young woman involved can get away from the jw's and gets some counseling....and finds peace.

Higher Education

well, let's try posting a topic.

one of the things i felt i missed out on while i was a witness, other than wild sex when young is higher education.

i quit hs to pioneer and now have just recently finished a college degree and am still working on my masters, but i find myself resenting that i have had to do this all at night and while in my forties.

Off & on through the years, I've taken some night college courses.....and I was raised an Irish Roman Catholic. There could have been some xjw's in those classes.....but I suspect the vast majority were like me - just came from families with not enough money - or familes who didn't put much value on education. My parents just encouraged me not to get pregnant and learn to type so I could get a job.

There's millions of persons in the same boat. Millions more than there are jehovah's witnesses. Yeah, it sucks, but that's life.

As for scholarships not taken? Yeah, had those too (art).....except my dad was there to make damned sure that I didn't take them. So, I didn't. Do I resent that still? Sure, but that's life too.

It's great that any who continue with their education - even just for the sake of learning - have the energy, tenacity, will to do so.

Oh, btw, I wasn't able to send all my kids to college & living on campus. I helped.......but BY FAR, they did it on their own, and have the school loans to prove it. And BY FAR, most of their friends are in the same financial boat. I just marvel at my children's achievements.....and they were raised as jw's. (Thank God we weren't theocratic jw's.)

Congratulations to all who are willing to work towards their own educations.

JW - non JW relationships

i'm sure that if i had come to this website as a non-jw looking for information on this cult when i was dating my jw girlfriend, i would not have taken any notice of a message like this.

but i cannot stress this enough to any non-jw in a relationship with a jw: get out now!

it is only natural to believe that your relationship will be different to the other failed relationships between believers and non believers which you read about on boards like these.

Hello Simon - and welcome to our forum.....thanks for the personal account.

Almost any "theocratic" jw family will try nearly anything to get their family member back in. If love doesn't work....then guilt, shunning, lying, trying to turn their children from them, banishment from all family functions....all this will be used as a form of "theocratic warfare". Afterall, to them, they're fighting for the real spiritual & physical life of that family member.

My husband's mother makes his love for her sooooo much harder. No mother uses guilt better than that old woman.

I've known of families which were shredded because of the jw's. Of course, the jw's believe it's "the world's fault".....never their own. How could it be? They're doing "God's Will."

There's no winning.....only leaving.

JW's and Funerals..... your thoughts please, including current JW's

a morbid topic i know, but one that has played on my mind since i was df'd.. my mum is still a very devout witness.

if anything happened to her, what would the witness position be on my attending the funeral ?.

i know she would (quite rightly)expect a service at the kingdom hall.

I live in SC - and the funeral talks are nothing more than JW sales pitches to "new interested, albeit grieving, persons who are visiting the KH."

Even if it's in a funeral home.........the talk is canned, standard JW funeral talk.

In our area - you would be completely shunned by all JW's. They would not acknowledge your existance.

Perhaps going to the funeral home to visit - a chance to really chat with non-jw family, or those jw's who will speak with you..........as long as no one sees them doing it.

just moments ago i was on the back deck looking at the stars and a renter next door came out to do the same.

i said hello and we talked about where we were from and where we are at, spiritually.

after a few clues the neighbor asked if i had accepted jesus as my personal savior.

I would think the high lighted words are pertinent. There are many in the world closed minded people and/or fundamentalists (I live in the South USA). But many of them aren't the shunning type. I think that tends to be a personality flaw (or jw gift). Live and Let Live. If there is a connection....okay. If not.....okay. waiting

"jehovah" always seems to spirit-direct his "new light" when the wts has a problem they created for themselves.

It's odd how the mind warping decisions of the WT mirror the decisions of the Catholic Church in their cold blooded execution of bodies.

But the followers (including me for 30 yrs) just don't get it. As one x-Scientologist said "Because I was in a CULT!"

im am a 19 year old male who is thinking of leaving christianity for another religion.

i am looking at jw first and before i really start studying it i want to know how the religion works on homosexuality because i have a boyfriend and dont want to leave him.and would i be able to go date and have sex with someone not in the religion.. thank you .

Welcome to our forum - nice of you to look around while still *just* meeting with jw's. Smart move on your part.

I've receantly wanted to join the Jehovah Witness cuz they practice such truth, when they find something that is wrong they fix it. They don't take part in politics unlike other religions.

No, they don't "practice such truth." They do as they please and/or as taught.....just like any other group/religion/cult. They're just more strict than most.

No, they don't "fix it" when they find something wrong. That's the jw interpretation. They do like any other group.....change/cover/fix/kick people out.

Yes, they DO take part in politics, just depends on what country they're in. In fact, JR Brown's radio interview said point blank that it was "a personal decision" for any jw as to whether they wanted to vote.

Welllllllllllllll, perhaps so. But if a jw's "personal decision" allowed him to vote.........then the congregation's decision would be that the voter would be disassociated........ie: kicked out & shunned for the rest of their lives unless they repented, did penance, and promised never to do it again. So much for personal freedom, eh?

And no one can prove that it's wrong to take part in politics, btw.

As for "practice of homosexuality"? lol - As long as you're prepared to never have a sexual thought/action for the rest of your life towards a member of the same sex.....you might succeed as a jw. You see, jw's are taught that they can "sin in their minds"....lusting, and all that.

It's an awful way to live your life.........as a lie.

Stick around - many good (and some awful) threads about homsexuality. We're a free people......unlike Jehovah's Witneses.
