Just moments ago I was on the back deck looking at the stars and a renter next door came out to do the same. I said hello and we talked about where we were from and where we are at, spiritually. After a few clues the neighbor asked if I had accepted Jesus as my personal savior. I said yes, Jesus saved me from a cult but he saved me in a way different then you might be thinking. This lead to my common thesis about 'connecting'. I told her I connected to God as a Baptist until I became a Jehovah's Witness. Then I connected as a JW. Now I am not a part of any religion but I still connect. She said: "You are wrong. You cannot connect to God except through 'our Lord Jesus Christ. "No one approaches the God except thought me". It told her I am glad she is able to connect to God through Jesus. I am happy for anyone who connects with God, through what ever means. But I know I connected with God as a Baptist, I connected as a Jehovah's Witness, and I connect now as a person with NO religious affiliation. It is all about a relationship with this entity we call god. " It is the connection that is important, not our personal concept of god nor the name we attach to it." She turned and headed for her patio door. "Good night" were her next and last words. The JW's are certainly not the only closed minded fundamentalist in the world. Oh well, shunned again. Jst2laws

QUITE THE INTERESTING VISIT YOU HAD.
YA KNOW, I OFTEN FIND THAT THE PEOPLE WHO RESPOND AS SHE DID "WITH ABSOLOUTE BELIEFS AND A LITTLE ANGER" ARE OFTEN, PEOPLE WHO ARE AFRAID.
THEY ARE AFRAID THAT YOU MAY CORRUPT THEM. "MAKE THEM SEE THE NONSENSE".
THEY ARE AFRAID DEEP DOWN INSIDE THAT YOU MAY BE RIGHT AND THEY MAY BE WRONG.
THIS LAUNCHES THEIR SECURITY SYSTEM AND THEY ATTACK OR RUN.

I also believe that you can only "connect" with God through Jesus Christ.
However, I also believe that you should not shun someone who believes otherwise.
You should, instead of shunning, show love and kindness and let Jesus shine through you so that the unbeliever can see Jesus in you.
Jesus associated with and ate meals with prostitutes, fornicators, tax collectors who defrauded people, military soldiers who killed people, hypocritical religious leaders who taught false doctrines, etc.

This may almost sound out of place but CONGRATULATIONS! If this person is so narrow minded as to treat you like that better you find out before they try to convert you!
My mother was a born again Christian and she was able to accept and understand me and my pagan ways! She told me that what was important was believing in a higher power, the name it had or how you connected to it did not matter, for in the end, the important part was the belief in something higher and more spiritual than we are.

It is all about stages, Undisfellowhipped. You are right. Jesus is one of the greatist men to ever live, and he DID SAVE ME from judgementalism, modern fundamentalism, from Jehovah's Witnesses. I believe "for such freedom, Jesus set us free" (Gal 5:1).
This sincere woman was connecting but she was NOT FREE. But that is OK. Perhaps she will be free some day. I wonder if you are not on the same road. Connected to God, but not FREE as yet.
Just stay open minded and keep growing. If you really experience what the Watchtower admits is the 'essence of Jesus Christ' you too will eventually be free.

That is not only accurate, but it's true and on so many levels.
Let go let God.

Dave Berry is right. He's said in past columns, "People that want to share their religious beliefs with you, almost never want you to share your beliefs with them."
Baptists, JWs, Pentecostals, LDS... not much different in that respect, are they?

Corvin,

I just drove down a dead end road yesterday that I had not been on for two year and fought to dismiss those auto-recollections that I had several RVs there that I had not followed up on. Just a moment of reflecting on reality and I dismissed those misplaced fingers of guilt with the fact that THEY and I were both better off with the outcome of my negligence. Jst2laws

How dare you connect to god without cheeses. Just kidding. I think that's a bit how they feel, like people who connect through other ways are presumptuous.
I would think that all people are connected to each other, and to god, their source. It's just that different techniques or events are needed to realise that the connection is there. 'Course, many christians were told that they are, so they chose to believe it.
Btw, baptists come from the same tree as jws. William miller was one.
