Reading the Prodigal Son account without "Watchtower glasses" on is what did it for me, too. I enjoyed hearing your story, thank you for sharing it.

'We are all scallywags, but God loves us anyway' - My story
by Laika inperhaps the most profound moment of my life occurred when i was sat in a car with my dad.
we were travelling home and having a very jw conversation on the paradise, at least, it was until my dad slipped in one of those rare moments of honesty in the watchtower world:.
that moment really hit me hard.

Yes, resolving to eat healthier is always good! I recently saw some free Paleo recipe books for Kindle.

I have a friend who is really into the Paleo Diet right now, so I did some research on it.
If you're doing it for health reasons, that's fine. But the scientific premise it is based on has been thoroughly debunked:
1. Agricultural diets of today make us chronically ill.
2. We need to eat more like our ancestors 10,000 years ago.
3. We know that these ancestral diets had "a lot of meat".
4. If we follow this ancient diet, it will improve our health and we will live longer.

Theists - Why does Morality require the existence of God?
by cantleave in"without god in your life, you cannot have a moral compass",,,, please explain to me why you think that should be so?
.

I believe the vast majority of people have a sense of morality. It's just how we are. I think it's naturally part of us to be helpful to others and not do things to intentionally hurt others. I don't believe civilization would have evolved as far as it has, without this natural morality.
In my opinion, religion is what messes this natural morality up. Very often, religion gives people the reasons to justify hurting others.

GB (Splane) says JW parent should "force" their children
by Gayle into go in "service," "baptism," etc.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsqmosgj710

Imagine the guilt trips for all the parents of unbaptized early-teens sitting in the audience listening to that.
An unbaptized 13 year old is now considered a parenting fail.

I think the GB love it when people will expend themselves, at their own expense.
I know a young married couple who were pioneering in Mexico on their own, with no backing from the WT. One is Canadian and the other is American. Neither one is building up any sort of pension in either country. Now they are being asked to go to Guatemala - again at their own expense.
I predict they will one day find themselves coming back from their "foreign service", with no education, no retirement, no family to look after them, no pension. And the WT will tell them, "You did all that on your own. Don't expect anything from us."

What is your opinion?
by Terry inmatthew 6:14-15new revised standard version (nrsv).
14 for if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you; 15 but if you do not forgive others, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.. .
at least on a superficial interpersonal level the above scripture requires the victim to forgive the offender in order to be forgiven in turn.

British zone visit from David Splane - a report from the special meeting in Glasgow
by slimboyfat inwell i went to a "special meeting" in the armadillo today where a 2 & 1/2 hour programme was relayed from london at 1pm.
apparently the letters of invitation only went out a month or so ago and not all congregations were invited.
there were 2,900 of us from around scotland.

His next piece of advice, aimed at parents, was that they should not allow their children any leeway in avoiding the meetings. Some parents have the "misguided idea", he said, that their children should be allowed to choose for themselves whether to go to meetings, so that it can come "from the heart". That's all wrong, he said. Parents must force their children to come to the meeting and out on service whether they like it or not. Parents wouldn't allow their children not to eat, or teach them that going out to work is a choice they can accept or reject. It's the same with the meetings. Children must be taken to the meetings whether they like it or not.
I think that is fabuous advice! Nothing will drive the young people out faster.
