when i was a janitor
by teejay inback when i was a janitor, around 1983/84, in this one building, i'd see this guy working late almost every day, even on fridays when almost everyone else had started their weekend early.
one day, he was unusually upset at his boss.
to hear him tell it, his boss wasn't a very nice fellow... a person who took sadistic pleasure in belittling and demeaning those he could, whenever he could.

Society Movie from 1967
by drahcir yarrum inin 1967 or 1968 the society had a film out designed for teenagers titled "heritage".
it was the most pathetic, but hilarious propaganda movie i ever remember seeing.
does anyone know if this movie is still in existence?
-
wasasister
And does anyone know the key phrase from that movie? The one thing all teenagers desire? Correction, the TWO things teenagers desire?
No cheating...
wait for it
not yet
OK, here goes. All teenagers want out of life are:
"Peace of mind, and self-respect"

To Active COs/DOs
by Maximus ina major news organization is in final process of preparing a tv program addressing the issues raised by silentlambs.
its producers and investigator reporters wish to be fair and unbiased, and are seeking broad input and insight.. another such organization has been attracted to the child abuse issue but does not wish to duplicate what's covered.
they are in the initial stages of examining the blood issue and that of enforced shunning and its consequences, in the light of human rights issues globally.

Got to bring this to the top again, Boss.
The only way a person within the organization can be guilty of child molestation is by confession, conviction by a court of law, or by the mouth of two witnesses who were there for the same event.
There is just NO WAY this is justified by Mosaic or any other scriptural law. Sex crimes did NOT have to meet the "two witness test". How can they defend this scripturally...not to mention morally??
(Isn't it sad, I felt I had to make a distinction between "scripturally" and "morally"?

Not much I can add to the foregoing. I think you'll agree, most everyone here will make any effort possible to help you though this difficult stage in your personal growth, even if all we can do is listen and say, "Yeah! Me too!"
I came here asking the same questions you are asking. I did not get absolute answers, for which I am now grateful. What I got was encouragement to find my own answers, and direction to sources of information. I stay in the hopes that my experiences may be of help to someone else.
Three years ago, I was in free-fall after the "foundation" of everything I had ever known was suddenly not there. It wasn't exactly easy, but I did survive and I am much better off than when I was living in a false dream.
Please accept the invitations to correspond with others personally. No doubt one or more of them have had circumstances very similar to yours and might be able to offer insight and comfort. Also, consider joining the chat sometime. You'll find it entertaining and a nice way to visit with others.
I'm going to add my address:

Is Hatred Really Just "Loving Less"?
by TMS inthe bible says the jacob hated leah, the gal he was tricked into marrying after seven years of hard work at minimum wage.
for many years watchtower publications have tried to take the sting out of jacob's disdain for wife #1 by saying that he really didn't hate leah, just "loved her less".. i think he hated her.. its not that hard to understand.
if a man works seven long years, each night going to sleep with visions of a certain bright-eyed girl and then gets stuck with her dull-eyed plain sister, resentment could build.

Messenger:
Again with the "pretty girl" innuendo! Where does it say that?Yes, I understood, the union of the couple preceeded the additional years of servitude. What difference does that make?
I personally think Leah and Cinderella's step-sisters should co-author a book. It would be an entirely new insight on the "beauty" vs "ugly" battle.

I've often wondered about this. If, as I have come to believe, these accounts were meant to teach us some lesson rather than being absolute historical accounts, what are we learning here?
From Leah's perspective, she really had a bad deal. The account never says she was ugly, just that Jacob did not have the lust/love for her he felt for her sister. This story is as old as time. (Most biographers conclude that Mozart was smitten by Constanza's sister before he married her.) Leah knew Jacob would eventually aquire the woman he really loved. She missed out on being with a man who really wanted her. How sick was Laban?
Thinking of the historical perspective, a man was required to produce offspring. Of course, alone in a tent with a willing partner, what able-bodied man would refuse to consummate a marriage, even where love was not involved? Can you even imagine what Leah was subjected to when Rebekah entered the picture?
You are right of course. Spin Doctors trying to make our "hero" look less of a cad. Does't work for me either.

Seeing and not seeing
by wasasister inthis thought occurred to me when i was responding to the governing body divided thread begun by maximus.
many respondents were speculating on possible intrigue between factions of the writing or service committees, and whether or not they were (in essence) planting hidden messages for each other, or for alert dubs on the outside.
it seemed very much like the hidden pictures brouhaha of several years ago.

This thought occurred to me when I was responding to the “Governing Body Divided” thread begun by Maximus. Many respondents were speculating on possible intrigue between factions of the writing or service committees, and whether or not they were (in essence) planting hidden messages for each other, or for alert Dubs on the outside. It seemed very much like the “hidden pictures” brouhaha of several years ago. Of course, the Society denied any hidden images existed, but most who observed them closely maintained they were deliberate.
It reminded me of those mosaic-looking pictures with a hidden three-dimensional image popular a few years ago. When they first arrived on the pop-culture scene, one could observe a group of people in a mall, standing in front of a display window, staring in various stages of discovery. “Oh! I see it now!” or “I don’t see it yet.” Or “Honey, cross your eyes more.” Some people tried and tried, but just could not see it. (My ex-husband was one of them.) I often wondered if it was an ocular or mental difference between those who saw and those who did not. Sometimes, you would start to see it…almost…and then lose it again in the confusion of colors.
Perhaps the perception of contradictions in the WT literature is like this. Some JW’s see it right away; others almost see it, then blink, shake their heads and lose it; still more will never see it, no matter how you try to point it out.
Some of that last category are no doubt writing articles. If you could teleport one of them into your living room, you would try to reason as follows:
You: Brother, do you see the glaring double standard in the paragraph you wrote?
Writer: How could you possibly know I wrote that?
You: You’ve just been teleported to my living room, and you question how I know this?
Writer: Point taken. Well, I was looking through the archives, trying to find something encouraging for the brothers.
You: And you thought the story of Cyril Lucaris would encourage them?
Writer: Well, yes…you see he was faithful to the Word of God in the face of opposition, just like Jehovah’s people today.
You: But, Brother, you condemned the Church for being “ecclesiastical” and discouraging access to the scriptures by the common believer. Do you not see any parallel in this today?
Writer: Certainly I do! The clergy of Christendom do this today! You got the point I was trying to make!!!
You: Could not the same thing be said of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses? Do they not claim the scriptures cannot be understood without the aid of their publications?
Writer: Not as such, but in effect that is true. The Ethiopian needed help from Philip to understand what was written. It is not the same as Christendom. The Governing Body is Spirit Directed. They have the REAL Truth. This is the Truth the False Religions want to keep from us.
You: Try crossing your eyes.

GB Split Over Bible vs. Policy
by Maximus inplease read the following brief paragraph carefully: .
"once again, the ruling ecclesiastical class suppressed efforts to make gods word available to their flock.
they violently silenced a voice that pointed to some of the errors of their non-biblical beliefs.

Are there other possibilities I haven't considered? I'm sure their are. Let's hear them!
Copernicus said:
maybe it’s just this simple: occasionally a few honest folks (in a position to do something about it) get a twinge of conscience and they express some real feelings.
Or, certain members of the writing committee get so BORED doing cut and paste re-writes that they break the mind numbing monotony by slipping in something original once in a while.Has anybody considered a really wild possibility: That many members of the writing staff have been pushing "brain-dead" ideas so long, they have become brain-dead as well? Is it possible we are reading this entirely differently because of what we now know? Could the author of this particular article really believe the thought applies to "Christendom" and not Jehovah's Earthly Organization?
Just another bite to chew.

Jason: I tried to read your posts, I swear I tried. But would you give some thought to editing? I can see your English is not American (several clues give you away), but for the sake of credibility, your computer must have spell check:
Now THIS is a rediculous statement. Can you rewrite this in english? Probably not.
Can YOU rewrite this sentence in English? If you value what you are saying, at least have the respect for the language to spell it correctly.
RHW, the above - I hope you know - was written with good natured humor. I'm in awe of the reasonable, factual way you presented your argument. Whether I agreed with you or not (OK, I did), I admire greatly how you said it.
Thanks for making the "girls" here look good!
