  Fark:

  Dark? You find the Requiem dark? I think it's glorious and celebration of life. (Although, if it's fire you're after, try the 35th Symphony, the so-called Hafner.)

  Mozart might have faded into oblivion if not for his wife. She really did lock up his writings, as shown in the movie. They had two sons, not the one, however. Shortly after his death, she remarried and together with her new husband, they worked hard at marketing Mozart's music. Made more of a living from it then Mozart ever earned during his brief life-time.

  Mozart's sister (can't remember her name), was also a talented musician and composer, but because she was born female, whatever she wrote or did passed into feminine obscurity.

  Was it Felix Mendelssohn who was responsible for ressurecting Bach's music?

  Amen to that, Fark. At the end of the movie, based on the Broadway play "Amadeus," the Requiem mass plays as Mozart's body is dumped into the mass grave. It always brings me to tears.

  Of course, Mozart would not have done what he did if Bach had not blazed the trail before him. Bach's mathematical patterns provided the inspiration for much of the Classical Age.

  By "being performed", I mean live performances across every time zone in the world. There is probably one near where you live. Check your local classical radio station for details.

  Tomorrow, Mozart's Requiem Mass will be performed in every time zone around the world. It's being called the "Rolling Requiem" and the idea originated in Seattle. Most, if not all, performances are free of charge.

  Although this piece of music was written with the Latin words of a ritual Roman Catholic death mass, the music is transcendent of religion. It is the most sublime and profound testament to the indomitable spirit of mankind I have ever heard. It's way more a "gee, I'm glad I'm not the guy in the box" than, "oh, aren't we sad we're all going to die."

  I'd recommend a close listen if any of you are in a position to do so. I hope it leaves you, as it does me, celebrating life, art, beauty, love and kindness wherever we can find it.

  i feel a bit shy about posting after being away for so long, but when i think of people who appreciate breasts, i think of jw.com.

  so, i interrupt my jw.com sabbatical to offer breast connoisseurs and aficionados an opportunity to preserve healthy, perky breasts to time indefinite.

  this spring i began working at a marina, and this summer my son and i have been learning to sail.

  BTTT, check is in the mail.

  I can testify that this is a good organization, doing many valuable things for breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families. They have a comparatively high percentage of funds going to the cause, with fairly low administrative costs. I've been in two "Race for the Cure" events, and I know Mulan and Princess were at last year's Seattle event.

  So, for all you guys who keep talking about how much you love breasts, how about putting your money where your mouths (and hands) are?

  I'm Back...and living in Las Vegas!

  well, i have been living in las vegas for a week and a half now.

  the drive from houston to vegas was hard.

  it took me two days to get here, but thankfully my dad came with me and he was able to help me drive.

  Gil: congrats! I just got back from there on Tuesday. It was my fifth trip, but this time the heat really got to me. We stayed indoors as much as possible. It was painful to watch the kids going back to school dressed in new jeans in 110 degree blazing sun.

  So, you are right on the corner of Paradise and Harmon? Near UNLV? We stayed at the Aladdin, which was not only super nice, it was super cheap. Just down the road from you, as I recall.

  Once the weather cools down, do venture out to the desert. I highly recommend Red Rock Canyon as a hiking area. If you manage to go around sunset, the colors will blow you away. I have a soft spot in my heart for that particular place.

  I've downloaded a few noisey casino games, just so I won't miss those slot noises!

  Joe vs. The Volcano - Allegory or Dribble?

  okay, guys, this is my first time starting a forum, so be kind.

  how many of you have watched the movie "joe vs. the volcano" (1990 - tom hanks, meg ryan) and what did you think of it?

  i would've posted this in the tv/movies section but i found a lot of parallels to our situations and feelings about the witnesses as joe moved through his life.

  Undoubtedly, the worst job ever. The buzzing neon light, the boss on the phone...the job we all are glad we don't have.

  One question: what was the meaning of the recurring zig-zag shape throughout the movie? Never did figure that one out.

  Smoke gets In Your Eyes.

  i was just wondering, how many of us here took up smoking after we left the witnesses?

  i have to admit that it was just about the very first thing that i did when i finally received that sumbeam of enlightenment that jw's were simply not anything special.

  i drove out to a country pub, bought 2 panatellas and a half of red barrel, and spluttered my way through my first cigar n' pint.

  Smoking was one of the things the Dubs were right about. It does kill.

  I watched my mom struggle first with emphysema, and then trying to quit cold turkey when she got baptized. It made quite an impression on my 17 year old mind.

  I never so much as touched a cigarette since. I've been tempted to try the "wacky-tobbacky" a few times, but I'd need to find a different delivery method.

  I have other vices, however, that I will keep to myself (evil grin).
