Should I Respect Mums Wishes?

my jw mum has chosen not to write a will.

as she has very little in the way of worldly goods, she has asked my brother and i to sell her possesions when the time comes, and give the money to "the congregation".

presumably the jw`s will decide suddenly that it`s now ok to talk to us df'd ones.. also, my mum has asked me to pack up all her 100's of wt books for presentation to the local congregation library.. now, i have to tell you that these books include the original watchtower and awake volumes.

Hi Englishman,
I think if it's her last wish you should do it,but I think that you should make them come and get it from you and do whatever you wish beforehand,after all think of all the wonderful spiritual truths you might learn.. Hey,the brothers may even say that you should keep them as they would undoubtedly benefit you spiritually.LOLOLOL.....
As for the money I'm sure you would have some interesting ideas on how you could give them their gold.....
My advice would be to follow your mum's wishes but make them squirm....

i hope this is a friendly place, because i could sure use some friends.

this is my first try at posting on a discussion board, though i have been lurking here and at a few others on the same subject for a few weeks now.

about 4 weeks ago i took the plunge and decided to see just what all the mystery and danger of reading "apostate" material was all about.

Hi Truman ,
You're going through the stages I felt.I'm sure it has happened to all in the same circumstances.It is all about the fear and control they use to keep you in but,believe me,it is worth it to feel free and the control they had over you withers away.You can breathe freely again,choose wisely,and live your life.....Listen to the advice from others who have immediate family.I'm sure it will help you in the long run.You are not beating anyone,it is the Org that will treat you differently.But it is better to live a real life and know the truth....

Evidence of "Independent Thinking"

son1 is single and a staunch jw whose goal for years has been to go to bethel and to become a missionary.

I found this to be a good book on the subject and an enjoyable read too.....'The Jesus Mysteries' by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy.Was the orinal Jesus a pagan god..?.....'A provocative,exciting and challenging book' quote by John Shelby Spong,Bishop of Newark.

You've been doing some research especially those on the godman myths,Adonis,Mithras,Dionysius.It's amazing how many of the events relating to Jesus's 'life' had been already visited in the other godman myths.Oh fiddle dee dee......Shauna have you been burning the midnight oil in your research...

I see little good left in WTS

i think most of us accept that the wts has done some good, but as the years pass, i find that the good i thought they did is getting less and less, and more importantly, the harm caused is getting greater than i could possibly imagine.. you continued, "can we reject what they have pressed to the world: god has a name, his kingdom is to solve mans problems, the earth is to become a paradise as god purposed, man will live endlessly on earth as intended, those who died will return in a resurrection of the dead rather that burn in hell, and this good news is to be preached in all the earth.".

at this point in my life, after 25 years of being a jw and now an ex-jw, i find their message, its very root concepts, pure fantasy that may not necessarily god's will.

i know that the "society" uses this scripture to instruct it's members on how to view other members that have been judged and condemmed.

(i. e. disfellowshipped) i'm intersted in opinions of what "this teaching" is referring to in the verse.

2 John is one of the more 'doubtful' books of the NT.It was more than likely wriien in the second half of the second century as the literalist christians began to flex their muscles with gnostic christians.
Remember,it's the victors who write history.....
In early christianity there was a lot of contraversy over the identity of Jesus and whether the historical personage as developed by the early church really existed.
The 'historical' gospels are now generally acknowledged to have been written in their present form a lot later than was previously thought.Interestingly,some of the more popular christian books of the 1/2nd century,Gospel of Hebrews,Shepherd of Hermas never made it into the NT..
Having looked further into the origins of Christianity I am becoming more convinced that the early church pulled a good con job which was completed when christianity became officially endorsed by the Roman Empire.
An interesting book on the subject was published last year which has a good bibliography..'The Jesus Mysteries'.

about almost everything: how life will be in the new world ordertm, how and when armageddon is going to happen, whether the latest newspaper headline really signals that armageddon is about to start, what the latest new lighttm is going to be, and on and on.. so heres something to also speculate about.

suppose that jehovah paid a personal visit to the wts leaders and said, .

Perhaps an antitypical fulfillment....
Some of the older publications speculate on how instructions would be given out over loud speakers by Abraham...'Attention brothers'..as he flew around the world in a society jet..
The New World Society(tm)was something I always feared...

i found the terse, typed letter displayed above sitting on my microwave oven when i got home from work a few months ago.

it was addressed to me from my best friend and brother-in-law of many years.. a couple of days before we got into a discussion over "what was wrong with me.

" i had recently grown a goatee that he thought was extremely 'unchristian'.

Hi guys,
Remember what we always used to be told.....Don't make friends with the world,but find 'true friends'in 'Jehovah's organisation.Yeah sure.....who'll drop you like a smelly turd as soon as you ask challenging questions about the WTBS or their religion.......
For the average dub,a friend 'in need' is a pain in the ass....Remember the glazed look kingdom smile,I still have memeories of that fixed on some people's faces.
Then one day you realize what you suspected was true all along...nothing but a con.One of the more sickening of the many realisations that cross your mind..Good post rem.
