Since the generation explanation is constantly changing, the governing body is evidently confused.

The evidently thread
by JeffT insince the term "this generation" evidently means "two generations" i think we should have our discussion of things that are evidently true.
no need to limit it to the bible, but i'll start off with one.. 1 tim.
3 "2now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife" evidently means everybody else can have as many wives as they want.

How about all the dads, included “WT stamped approvies” being permitted to watch on their flat screen, and even actually attend, pretty much all types of competitive sporting events. You can go with your BOE buddies or even bring your J.W family along.
But J.W kids can’t even participate in local school sports. If you think about it, it’s not the “competition” that bothers the WT. That spin is put on to keep the kids and their parents away from the “worldlies”.
If you believe competition is wrong and forbid your kids to play sports at school but watch all kinds of sporting events on T.V. you’re probably a J.W dad.

The reporting of field service time
by lepermessiah inwere any of you really bothered/still bothered by the practice of field service reporting?.
there was an old post on here that got me thinking how the practice got started.. instead of simply being a tool to monitor the progress of the faith, or to see if the work was done "throughout the earth", it appears to me that it was just a tool used to keep the presses rolling and to see how much literature to produce - along with controlling the rank and file.
the average jw gives it no thought, its just another "blessing" from the organization when you hear the monthly reports, etc.. the organization is so statistics-driven that they make jesus out to be a ceo with people who need to meet their sales quotas.i'm sure he really wouldnt care if peter and andrew got 20 hours one month and john got 25. wait, maybe thats why john was "beloved" .

If you believe…
it’s necessary to write down and report the time you spend talking about God, and can actually get yourself into trouble if you don’t…
you probably are a J.W.

Borg court: 2nd session
by sd-7 injudicial committee, round 2. i have to give it to the elders on this one.
they fought well, albeit with unrefined technique.
pure strength of authority apparently seems to make up for a lack of sufficient evidence, just as the 300-pound fellow who believed you were checking out his girlfriend can beat the tar out of you even though you were merely looking at the clock behind her on the wall.

Why not ask your wife if she'd like to attend with you
She might learn more about the org. at this next session than you can ever teach her by yourself
If they tell her to leave you both should be emphatic and insist she be there - you are one flesh...let no man...etc.
The discussion you guys will be having is sure going to affect your familie's life and she should be and has a right to be present

As I was growing up my dad would always make a special effort to enlighten his Catholic brother-in-law. He’d ask my uncle to get out his Catholic Bible and show him scriptures. One of his favourite arguments was the doctrine of the Pope’s infallability. Dad would ask “How can a reasonable person believe a mere human is infallible?” Another subject that was rehashed many times was the trinity. Dad would always comment the math aspect and ask “How is it possible to add 1+1+1 and get 1 for an answer. My uncle would listen, just smile and remark, “You’re dwelling on details”. These details seemed unimportant to him.
My uncle was baptised Catholic, learned Catholic doctrine and will be having a Catholic funeral. I don’t believe my uncle ever imagined the Pope was perfect and I don’t think he worried excessively about the trinity being true or not. He led his life by his personal principles, taking into consideration his faith when he felt it appropriate and ignoring Church doctrine he disagreed with.
My dad, on the other hand, would often say the G.B were not infallible. He would tell us the group was made up of imperfect men that made mistakes. But it never seemed to occur to him to question their ideas or math. He believed, obeyed and planned his life around them. When he receives the April 15 th Watchtower concerning “this generation” he will once again adjust his thinking and his math to conform to the new light. Of course, he’s quite used to math-adjusting by this time. The strange thing is, it just occurred to me, that the latest 1+1=1 is bringing him closer to the 1+1+1=1 that he once argued impossible.
So the April Watchtower got me to thinking: Who’s more intelligent?
The Catholics? Their church tells them their leader is infallible and 1+1+1=1. But the Catholics don’t seem to believe it or worry about it and certainly don’t plan their life accordingly.
Or the J.W.’s? Their church tells them their leaders are merely imperfect men. And now they teach 1+1=1. But the J.W.’s seem to accept and believe every word coming out of their church’s mouths. They make sure to keep their ideas in line with the latest church thoughts and are even willing to bet their lives on them.

Misery you say “the other half I do have some emotional investments with. It would hurt me, to hurt them.” I understand where you’re coming from. I have an elder friend who went through a bout of cancer and “the percentage” he cared about, helped him a great deal. Although he has WT issues, he now feels he owes too much to “the percentage” to let these people down. So it looks like he’s feels he needs to go through the motions and will force himself to do so for the rest of his life, which could be a long time. Before he was a real company man, but due to his issues, his “attitude” has naturally changed. He has been disciplined quite severely by the G.B.’s reps. for a few of his views and actions. I believe this disturbs “his percentage”, perhaps just about as much as if he had stepped down and slowly faded. But that’s my take, he now feels fading now would just show he was not humble and couldn’t take the discipline. So for the time being, he’s going to try and hang on.
In my case some came to me and said they were sorry I stepped down and appreciated all I had done as an elder. It made me feel bad and good. A C.O. visited us unannounced, met with my wife, and then gave a condemning talk at the hall, slipping in some of her comments to his talk’s advantage. His talk took down the sister that told her about it, but the others seemed to have accepted his remarks. That is hard…not being able to explain real reasons. But then, are their ears ready? Perhaps for now they are happy in their place in life, should we try and change that? When I slowed the meetings and service, I know a lot were upset and felt sorry I was going down one of Satan’s slippery paths…and wondered which one. But I decided that to get to where I needed to be it would be impossible to try and explain. To help ease the pain I’ve told a few that my issues are with the WT and not with the local congregation. I don’t think it really helps a lot. When some tried to get further explanations, we just said we weren’t comfortable talking about it. My parents are very elderly and I don’t want to upset their beliefs, which they hold to very dearly. I just tell them I don’t agree with the WT’s attitude, that I feel they need to take responsibility for things they have said and even excuse themselves for the difficulties they have caused, but that I’m leaving it in J’s hands. Although they were shocked and quite upset at first, they seem to have accepted it.
I hope you can find a way to get to where you need to be with the least damage possible – It may help to consider how long a congregation is affected by a death or dfing of a cherished member…the memory is there…but the real hurt?…not too long in my experience. In the mean time I’ll pray J to send manna to your area…don’t take this the wrong way…but ‘I don’t need any around here’ (I hate shovelling)

Here’s what the Watchtower doesn’t want their members to discover: In the “WORLD” there are great people to meet, many with better personalities, qualities and principles than those in the J.W. group. There are many amazing and interesting things to explore if you don’t stay focused on Watchtower interests. And you won’t stay in the Watchtower’s control long if you begin to discover this. Thus the constant the end is near so: shun the extremely wicked world, go to all your meetings, read every piece of literature, go in service every chance your get, counsel.
Having gone through a similar situation to yours, I feel for you my friend. A few words of advice. You need to fade! Begin planning your fade immediately before they notice attitude or you make a mistake. If you’re married start by making sure your wife is on the same page. If you do your fade very carefully, granted your family will be disappointed, but there will be little permanent damage. Keep in mind the Watchtower would rather vilify you as a df’d sinner than have you living in one of their cong’s territory as a burned out former J.W elder who will no longer do their bidding. Be extremely careful. Don’t regret the way you pulled out years from now.

Letter from WT's Haiti Branch Committee re: Society's relief response
by Dogpatch injust got this in, don't know if it was mentioned here yet, but this illustrates how the watchtower views/responds to emergencies.
note the dig on university and "higher education" (especially sad for a poor country like haiti with poorly educated masses).. randy.
it was a terrifying moment for all!

M Davis – I hope you check out every press release and any new light coming from the WT like you suggest to everyone else here.
The report from Haiti, which seems to be written by Inez Norman, sounds OK to me.
John and Inez Norman were in the circuit and were sent to Haiti to look after the Branch years ago. I think John being black had something to do with the WT deciding he was just right for the job.
Paul Rozon was into repairing and selling batteries and made good money when the business was sold
Sylvain Bellerive is a small-time builder from a little town 100 miles north of Montreal. He was used a lot by the regional building committee.
Pierre Thibodeau was a special who laid tile to make extra money and became quite active in the regional builds. Looks like h'es got a nice Branch tile job, a beautiful room, and will be able to escape the Canadian winter this year.
Charles Synder I don’t know but it would be easy for you to check it out.
If M Davis is your real name I understand why you may find it hard to believe someone you know could have written this. Why don't you contact Inez and ask her if she really wrote it?
If you believe Disaster Relief means rebuilding Kingdom halls and helping your fellow believers you probably are a J.W

how can the Jw's explain away the haiti earthquake?
by highdose ini'm sure they will get asked on the doors "how could god let this happen?".
i belive the standard answer is a fudged recitation of adam and eve, basicly meaning its ok that these people died becuase way back when, someone disobeyed god, and that makes it ok.... any other stupid jw explanations for this?.

My dad would answer thus ... Well actually it's a good thing. God is letting it happen to fulfill Bible prophecy and to wake people up. Turn to Matt. 24 and notice that earthquakes are just another sign the end is closer than you think. Jehovah is showing his loving kindness by allowing these warnings so people will take notice. They need to begin serving him or they will be destroyed.
My parents as well as other J.W's I know get extremely excited when there is a disaster like this that fits into prophecy.
