i talked at length with ray franz this afternoon regarding the following comments by bill bowen: ray franz supports the wt policy on child abuse.
he is the author of the two eye witness rule as well as the slander issue that prevents anyone from warning another of child abuse in the congregation.
it is interesting that wt is willing to fight to the last man standing for a policy that in large part was founded by their biggest apostate.
A good reason could be the children that are in need of help, or perhaps the adult survivors of abuse that are coming together for the first time with the help of SL.
I thought the support was always for the cause, not the champion, but it seems it's another popularity contest.
i haven't posted in a while... been very busy lately.
i am glad to be back though, i started reading the posts right away, and immediately felt comfort for how you guys are feeling, knowing i feel the same way.
not many of you know my story.... but for a quick run down... i'm a disf'd jw, for about 11 yrs now, i'm 28, disf'd at the tender age of 17... my mother and sister are still in the org... they only talk to me when they want to, it doesn't have to be an important event, life or death or anything.

when she is with you, you want her gone. there it is in a nut shell. you are an adult, your mothers equal, why except her control over your thoughts and opinions. if she doesn't like who you are that is her problem not yours. what i mean to say is make your life what you need it to be. if you can do that with her in it good, if not so be it.
To go tit for tat with the shunning is not very healthy but if you cut her out of your life to free your self from the last vestige of cult control, then it would be a positive experience only you can know what is best and that is just what we should always do, what is best for us and ours.

yesterday every body that volunteers in the nursery got a pamphlet on various policies that apply to us.
this is the complete text of the section on reporting abuse.. .
if a volunteer suspects a child has been physically, emotionally, or sexually abused or neglected, occ staff must be notified immediately.
I must agree with Imbue, what you have shone us is a policy for chilled care volunteers much like the polices in my state. It is a good one, but it is not the policy used by the clergy. If you inquirer you will find another policy (hopefully just as good) for church officials.

I guess I would have to say it should have more to do with the nature of your relationship with your family. What effect does being with your mother have on your children, is it healthy? how do you feal when you are together and after, is it a drain on you?
We all need to keep supportive loving people in our lives and cut out any one who cause us harm. The only questions to me would be: how is this effecting my children's development as healthy loving people? am I exposing my self to any form of abuse?

i'm curious...do the jw have something against the word church?
They use it when it suits them, when they want to seem more mainstream. To the press for example they are indeed a church.
The WT has two sides to there mouth and they use both of them.
i was a former member now in order to be included with family, i am a non-attender for about 14 yearsi really hate to hear all the damage and mind altering things that go on with this cult.

as far as i can see most jw's no worse than anyone else on this planet.
humans are often in "conflict" with the opinions of other humans , believing their ideal is "right" while others are "wrong".in general the people that make up jehovahs witness, that is seperate from those leading ,are often trying to do their best to do what they think is right.this sometimes leads them to do things i believe are wrong even .but so do many other people and groups do things i think are wrong.am i the only one who is right?i think not.there are no rules to being human just choices, some based on what some feel to be scientific reality other on spiritual fealing other on something else.
who desides what is the best, is there even a best way of life?so while i belive jw's are factualy wrong and this causes them to do , what seem to me to be illogical things so do most other people just in different ways.edited by - sleepy on 1 october 2002 14:17:32.
Interesting observations, if the JW's are no worse then:
The JW are no better then any church controlled by Satan.
no better then any group that intentionally misleads it's members.
they are not better then any org that protects molesters.
they are no better then any group that shuns education.
they are no better then any group that advocates violence as a control technique over your family.
they are no better then any org who demands complete obedience
they are no better then any church that ritually rejects that which represents the body and blood of Jesus.
They are no better than any totalitarian cult.
why aren't the jw's evangelizing on television and radio?
it certainly seems to work for many groups and brings in a great deal of money.

I guess you never heard the old joke: why aren't the Jehovahs Witness on TV? They are in the magazine business.
i did some research on what the marriageable age was for girls in ancient, biblical israel.
it turns out it was around the age 12 or 13, although an old man could reserve them from a much younger age, by having them betrothed to him.
twelve or 13 was the age puberty started for them.
The age of adulthood for boys within the Jewish society was 13 and for girls her first period marked the beginning of her adult life. Living as adults within there culture, they did all the things the other adults did.
