How Should I Do This?

okay....in a few weeks we(wife & kids) are going to visit my parents.

they have been jw's for a long time.... a little back-ground info...a couple of years ago i said the hell with being a jw..grew a goatee (wife said it made me look evil..:) and wanted nothing at all to do with being a jw..elders actually left me alone for the most part...talked to my parents...my mother kinda freaked but my dad said basically that he understood and that i gotta do what i gotta do ..said if he could help i could call...cool.

i have changed alot in that couple of years on the inside..how i feel and think...i am re-examining everything related to jw's and have found many very disturbing facts..i want to talk to my parents about them but i am not sure how to go about it...my mother is the emotional type..doesn't get to deep if you understand my meaning...my dad on the other hand was an elder for many years and is an analitical type person...very down-to-earth.....anyways...does anyone have any suggestions how i can talk to them about what i have found out without them freaking out and calling me apostate?.

Thanks everyone!.You have given me a couple of ideas. I think when I'm there I'm going to have to feel things out a bit but taking my Dad out for a drink is a really good idea..He loves to have a beer or two and maybe that will loosen things up a bit. I hope they don't expect us to go too the meeting while we are there...

Thanks for taking the time out to reply to my post and thanks to those who read it as well...This is new ground for me and it helps when others who have gone through this already give a few pointers...

I will try to drop back in chat in the next couple days...Interesting discussion the last time I dropped in eh Harmony?lol

Thanks alot! I love Canada and really identify myself as a Canadian...JW's are not supposed to be nationalistic at it was something that always bothered the hell outta me...I take pride in my country and heritage...

Position on College Changed?

several have made outright statements and others have suggested that the society's negative position on higher education has changed.

'the society does not discourage higher education where i live.

' worse, 'apostates have made it all up--the society has never discouraged education.

Hey Teejay;

I remember the CO's name...I think he is now in Ontario...Not sure in what capacity..He was a great CO..Don't know if you remember when the baggier suits came out...Kinda flashy..I remember talking to my parents about getting one but was told they look too worldly. Next CA there was the CO with one of those suits...Got one shortly thereafter:)

His name was Clive Thomas..His wife's name escapes me at this time but I think it was Rosalind or something like that..Was in his late 30's tall and lean with mostly grey hair but very distinguished looking...

Worked out in service with them and we were covering our territory..I was making the call with his wife..Long drive-way and we had parked at the bottom..I knew the house and knew the people who lived there..Nasty towards JW's..Had a big German Sheppard which they kept on a leash close too their door...Walking up the drive the CO's wife came to a dead stop and then turned and walked back to the car...Followed her and when Clive asked her what happened she replied.."You must not put Jehovah to the test"..He turned red and didn't say a word...Just about killed myself trying to contain my laughter...

Anyways..I am not sure if any of you know him but I have to say I actually looked forwards to their visits to our cong..

I just wanted to say thank-you for everyone who posts here. I have learned much in a very short time and am grateful to everyone who posts here. I find it invigorating to be able to ask questions and not feel like I'm gonna be hauled before a JC.

Now That I've Joined, I wish That I Hadn't

any one here get that sinking feeling when you were an active jw?

i'm not talking about the point where we developed doubts about the borg, but just the shear weight of responsibility on your shoulders to uphold "god's kingdom" ala wts.. the topic of doing all you can was brought up frequently.

some would try to sooth by saying "as long as you're doing your best, jehovah will accept you.

I was a MS at 18 and was given more and more assignments..A close friend of mine gave me a leather bracelet to wear..He wore a couple and I thought it would be cool...First time on the platform with it ended with me getting a lecture(in the second school after the meeting) from an elder. The elder and his wife had moved into our cong about 6 months before and were former Bethelites..Says my bracelet was worldly and that I should not be wearing it..Tried to argue the point with him but it was useless...Didn't care..Kept wearing the bracelet...mostly to piss him off..(my Dad was an Elder at that time and he saw nothing wrong with it)..Some Elders are just so petty...

After much pressure I was baptized at the age of 16...I was getting baptized at the same assembly as the PO son.....Everything went fine but the week after the assembly the PO's wife was complaining that I was not completely dunked under the water...She had taped it and she said that my hair had not gone completely under...She was insisting that I get dunked over again...Man...I was royally pissed..The PO talked to my Dad. My Dad told him that it was ridiculous and that there was no need for me to get dunked again...The matter was finally dropped a couple of weeks later...No..I did not have to get dunked again..

Side point..The PO's sun left the "truth" 3 years later...Moved in with a "worldly" girl..The PO had been removed by that time though..

It's all about who is who and who you know..It also seems that you have to be really good at kissing ass in the org...Fed up with all the bull...Anyways...

it seems like to me the majority of people who are in the truth, are were in the truth was a result of either a family member are a friend witnessing to them and not many seem to have been found in the door to door work.. from my years of associating with the borg i cannot recall many coming in the truth from the door to door work.. how were you sucked in?

for me it was my aunt who has now even though i am not disfellowshipped decided to write me out of her will to the tune of about $150,000.00 (maybe i should hang around a couple more years)dont think i will.. please respond .

I was adopted by my aunt and uncle at the age of 5...My birth parents split and I never saw my Dad again..

Turn 30 very shortly...man...(25 years..makes me sick to think about it)...IA and wife is not doing much either..

Probably not the place but this is interesting...My wife's great-aunt and uncle (missionaries)called on my adopted grand-parents in the D2D...Most the family came into the "truth"...Met my wife in Ontario at the age of 19 and we discovered our connection...Weird eh?

Subtle Propaganda at DC -but Noticeable To Us

as ive mentioned in other posts, i felt obligated to go to the dc (in hamilton) this weekend to help my family with my aging mom, who in my opinion just goes for the social outing because she is physically not able to stay awake for more that 1/5 th of the whole sessions except intermissions.. i know others have posted their observations of the dc they attended but id like to make an addition from things that just jumped right out at me and made me go argggghhhhh!.

and btw....i felt some of the comments made seemed to be as though they were answering their justification of some of the things being brought out on the internet, including here.. on friday, even in talks that were not about higher education, they managed to slip in their subtle propaganda, as in:.

- bob alton, said peter and john were outspoken about gods word and were unlettered and ordinary men they didnt need higher education to speak wondrous things of god.

I wanted to say I am sorry I didn't get to meet you Had Enough. It's funny ...my wife mentioned the same thing to her grandmother that it is obvious who were going to be the one's who went against Moses in the drama...She didn't see it that way of course..Been a dub for over 60 years....
Kinda funny..My daughter was asleep and I thought I would wake her up for the drama...She's half asleep and in her 6 year old voice says...Daddy..I have seen all the dramas before..Goes back to sleep..lol

I have to say I felt like I was being reprimanded and lectured too about being a bad boy..grrr....gives me the chills..you are not allowed to do this but you HAVE to do this..

I totally agree with you Farkel...

The wife and I were discussing this point. We both agreed it is none of their business what goes on in our bed-room...And the Bible does not say "Thou shalt not have a BJ"...lol...

Just more rules and "suggestions" by old men who have probably never had "good sex"...hehe

I also noticed that there weren't many people taking notes this year...People seemed really bored...

Embarrasing Moments

just so certain ladies do not feel alone in cringedom i will confess my red-cheekers !.

i was a well-developed 15 yr old getting too volupteous for my school uniform ( ok too fat then) and the zip had bust on my only school skirt.

my mum replaced it using an old zip from another garment which happened to be quite a bit longer than a normal skirt zip.an unmarried brother came to visit one morning and was sat in our living room having a cuppa while i was frantically getting ready for school.

Let's see...Had a few of them...

I remember when I was dating my wife....The BS was held in her home..I was working mega overtime and was exhausted...Place had hardwood floors and we all sat around in a circle..

I had my elbows on my knees and was looking down at my Bible...At least that is the last thing I remember...The conductor assigned scripturs for us to read and I guess when it got to my turn ...Well..I had fallen asleep...My wife nudged me and I was startled awake and there was a big bang...Bible hit the floor...I was so embarrassed..Everyone had a good laugh...

Another one was when I was in my teens the PO's daughter was dating this guy who was pretty straigh laced...We passed them on the highway with the two of my buddies in the back seat mooning them...lol..He was pretty upset but she thought it was hilarious...We all got in shit..

Two brothers I know were out in service...One from the city and one from my hall...(the one from my hall was a quiet brother and the other one a very serious brother...)
They call on this trailer and a kid opens the door...Asks if his mom or dad is around..Said mom was out back...The brothers go out back and there she in sun-bathing in the nude!...They were so embarrassed...They came back to the car almost at a run beet red...When they told us what happened we were laughing so hard tears were running down our faces..
