this is *if* you believe in god / a god / gods.
there are moments when i sit down and have a conversation, almost with myself, because even though i am looking up at the heavens/searching my soul, there is no answer, no supernatural feeling, it is quiet and still, but i speak the words just in case there is something listening.. if there is a god and he is all that he claims to be through all the religions on this earth, why doesn't he rule us as a god should?
why doesn't he come on down and sort out this world?

at one time the society taught that the generation of 1914 would see the end of this world.
since the society always used the bible to explain itself i did the same.
i thought, well the bible says our years are 70 or 80, if we have special mightiness.
You were not alone in your thinking. I was born into the borg and read and heard such predictions all my life.
In fact here are a couple more of their predictions in print: WT 1/1/89 page 12: "The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century."
My comment on the above is that all of us know that the society also always pointed out that when the preaching work would end, that would signal the "end" of this system and armageddon would begin. Well, not only has their so-called missionary activity continued past the 20th century, but the "end" has also not come.
Here is another one: WT DEC 1, 1968 page 715: " It is not reasonable to expect that present favorable conditions for preaching the good news will continue indefinitely. Besides, did not Jesus say that this generation will not pass away until all things are fulfilled? A generation, according to Psalm 90:10, is from seventy to eighty years. The generation that witnessed the end of the Gentile Times in 1914 does not have many more years left. "
As has been pointed out, 1914 + 80 = 1994. And that article was written in 1968.
And here is another prediction that indicates 1999 as the latest date that this system could last from the WT publication" The Nations Shall Know That I Am Jehovah-How? from 1971 on page 216: " Shortly, within our twentieth century, the 'battle in the day of Jehovah' will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom."
To have all of these false predictions in a concise collection, you can order the publication: "The End Is Near" - A Comprehensive Compilation Of Watchtower Dates from Randy's site.

Lou Belle,
Interesting thoughts.
If a father here on this earth allows his family,or children to suffer health problems, hunger, financial problems, fighting among themselves, without doing something about it, he is looked at as being negligent. And sometimes is charged legally with the possibility of being imprisoned.
According to the conditions under which many people on this earth live, and without any intervention from God, "God" (if a person believes in God), is acting in the same negligent way as a negligent earthly father.
"God" has never intervened to stop any war, disease, depression, recession, epidemic, hunger, lack of clean water in certain countries, the Crusades, the Childrens Crusade, WW1, WW2, The Black Plague, The Influenza of 1918-1919, earthquake, tornado, hurricaine, etc. etc. etc.
Billions of humans have died in these events and "God" never did one thing to intervene even though "God" supposedly has the power to do so.
The answer is as you concluded: There is no "God".

is it going to become mainstream?.
will it become more cultish?.
will it splinter off and re-create itself?.
Alpaca,
Every word in your comment on this thread is the same as my thoughts. And especially your comment about the "literal kool-aid".
My siblings and I talk about that all the time, and I believe such a situation is bound to happen. We are concerned for our mother who is still "in" physically, only because of her living situation with one of my sisters, who is still a dub, but my mother is "out" mentally. Those of us in my family who are "out" feel that in the future we might have to get my mom out of her living situation in order to avoid the "literal kool-aid".
Watchtower is definitely imploding though, even though many of those who are still "in", don't realize it yet. The full implosion could happen sooner, or it could happen later, but it will definitely happen.

i certainly have heard a lot of idiotic stuff during my tenure as a witness - but this one is priceless:.
a neophyte was complaining about the heat, humidity, physical effort, etc., involved in attending the district convention at veteran's stadium in philadelphia - and she was right.
it was miserable.
logic&reason,
That is funny!
Where has this guy been?! Humans have known the earth is a sphere for centuries already. That came from nitty gritty scientific reasoning, not from some jehovah.
"Where do they get these clowns from"?
Answer = the circus.

While visiting my mother's congregation in South Carolina at a service meeting,in 1998, the PO was giving a talk. He started off with these words: "There was a girl whose cherry was popped" ...
I could not believe I had heard that! When I returned to NY I immediately wrote a letter to the society with full details of the PO's name, that he had said this during a talk, the name of the congregation, and everything he said. They of course did nothing.

Circa 1985: CO Carl "Slicin" Dyson is assigned to circuit 15 in Queens NY, and comes through the area with the objective of trying to light a fire under all of us "slacking" bros & sis.
He criticized everything about everybody, including pointing to those at cong meetings and circuit assemblies who were sleeping while he was speaking.
Here is some of his "words of foolishness" when he visited our congo. (Keep in mind the year is 1985): He said:"You've got brothers talkin about retirement in 10 more years!. Isn't that foolish?! Do you really think this system will still be around in 10 more years?!
Its been 23 years since 1985. And this "system" is still here. He 's probably retired from the circuit work himself as he was already in his late 50's back then.
What a fuc!@#$%gveruul he turned out to be.

it had been 5 years or more since i even read a watchtower article after exiting the witness cult in late 2003. but i was curious to see if the new " witness only " watchtowers were more controlling than i remember them being 5 years ago.
and it certainly opened my eyes to the extreme control.
when you have been away from it - you can really see the difference !
Mr. Flipper,
I also usually can't even bring myself read those shittowers anymore. The only time I open one is when I catch some of the drones doing streetwork, and I challenge them that I can find statements that go directly against the bible in their magazines. And I always find something.
But just reading what you posted from the latest shittower made me really angry.
It is absolutely amazing how even at this late date of 2008, after all that has happened, how they can still listen to that crap and not see how they are being manipulated.
My answers to your questions are yes.
And here is something that probably not one of those drones will think about as they read that false definition of covetousness in their shittower :"Covetousness is a strong desire for something (We Do Not Possess)." Per mama borg.
Well if thats the case then all jws are full of covetousness, because they profess a "strong desire" for the so-called "new world", something they do not possess. Covetousness. According to their false definition.

How about this one: 1940 "The prophecies of Almighty God, the fulfillment of which now clearly appears from the physical facts, show that the end of religion has come and with its end the complete downfall of Satan's entire organization." {RELI 336} (The book Religion by J.F. Rutherford pg 336.
According to this it all came to pass 68 years ago!
Oh how I love those time warps. They keep you from being destroyed.
