  Thanks for post. Positive advice for those exiting.

  I liked reading about core values. This speaks to those people who possess a conscience and a need for spirituality or attaining higher values. This is regardless of religion, deist, nondeist beliefs.

  Of the bible scriptures I care to remember Romans 2:14,15 stands out on this subject. To sum it up: of the "people of the nations who do not know law", their conscience is their guide even to their betterment.

  Our conscience and core values are there regardless, it is for us to tap into it.

  Overeating

  it is intersting that the bible does not speak specificly about things like smoking, blood tranfusions, etc, which the watchtower will expell its own members over.. yet the bible does speak specificly about over eatingit even goes on to say that such people will not inherit the kingdom.

  yet from my experience in the organisation many witnesses would over-eat(few pleasures left when you got your head in a book all the time) and many were clearly overweight and suffering for it!.

  this led to all sorts of health problems for them from back trouble to heart disease, yet i never heard of any being dissfellowshiped on the grounds of gluttony/overeating!!.

  My husband knew several very large sisters that were publicly reproved for gluttony. The congregation had regular get together bring-a-dish dinners. I guess they really could "put on the feed bag". A visiting speaker was shocked by the size of the sisters and the amount consumed, so that's where the counseling started and progressed.

  Could you imagine the committee meeting? "I swear to God Brother Elder I'll go on my diet tomorrow! Sniff, Sniff."

  I knew a formidable, inebriated, fisherman JW who tried it in his favorite watering hole. The loud, forceful, drunken "sermons" and the fight that insued with the other fishermen got him reproved though. Something about it being so public. Wonder if he counted the time?

  Still cracks me up to think about it now.

  1914 - on the way out?

  as i haven't read any jw literature some 10 years or more now, can anyone tell me when was the last time that 1914 was seriously mentioned or discussed in a wt or book or whatever?.

  and when was the last time the calculation of the "7 times" which leads to 1914 was actually put down in writing in jw lit?

  has it been in a wt study article recently?.

  This is interesting. My adult daughter quit studying after coming to just this point of the 1914 generation and the calculations of the gentile times in the "knowledge book". It came out in 1995(time to publish new light?). The difference I see is (correct me if I am wrong, please)no mention of FDS or anointed being around THROUGH Armageddon. There are several phrases which seem to imply the 144,000, notice a completed number, ruling in heaven right after Armageddon.

  Pope OE, I'm like you, inactive for so long 95 just past me by. Dates set for the generation to end were on the way out in 95. Now to downplay 1914 & still maintain urgency to publish? Maybe there is a new featured book of conversion to replace the knowledge book, coming soon but with the new spin.

  I now need therapy for my therapy. I'm reseaching WT lit. with this post. It's interesting though to see the WTS turn of the screw.

  This reminds me of a ~1974 fatal interstate freeway car accident in the midwest, of six JW's in service. One of them was a young temporary special pioneer, I knew, that moved to the midwest assignment. If I remember correctly all were killed. Something was said about Satan personally striking a blow against JW's. It angered me there after to hear about Jehovah vs Satan protecting or punishing/tormenting anyone. If the WTS is correct about "protecting His people" hype, how in the heck would six be killed in service by accident? I hope they remember the person, also, and not use the death to further a control agenda.

  what was the last straw for you?.

  mine was the treatment of my wife.

  The beginning of the end was when things literally did not add up. What shall we have this month utilities OR food. Then add getting blasted with talks about lame sacrifices. The keep them poor, exhausted, in the dark, and guilty, control strategy had its limits.

  Survey - How many in Medical Field??

  just curiosity here... how many of us here are in the medical field?

  i seem to find alot of us are or were at some point.

  so i thought a survey would be in order.. also, if you are in a medical field - why did you choose it??.

  I'll post to the survey here as I have not mentioned it before. I'm a nurse. The majority of my time was spent in psychiatric and D.D.(mentally and/or physically handicapped) areas. I've taken a break due to a family business but plan on getting back in soon. There are several nurses and/or student nurse(s) on this board.

  i thought it might be a good idea to find out at what age or after how long we descided to leave the watchtower.. prehaps we my find a patern in it which we could use .. i think what we need to know are ,.

  so much promised to so many which resulted in so much disappointment, despair and misery.

  what future for the young?.

  because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.

  The mentality is "alive and well". My JW inlaws just remarked they are waiting until after Armageddon to have children. They are in mid thirties and starting to get gray hair. It's sad because they really do want children.

  It's a spoof. Notice who signed the last letter. This site was posted on this board a while back. The Are cats for true christians? is featured on another ExJW site. I lol after a few paragraghs, its the same indoctrination speech for not celebrating holidays but they inserted cats instead.
