Memorial attendance down?
by TweetieBird inlast night 3 congregations met at the assembly hall for the memorial.
there were just a little over 800 there which really surprised me.
in past years every congregation around here usually had at least 300 in attendance.

Yes, the report here is three areas invited could not fill one TINY KH. From the 90's it's down from 2 small KHs and a tie in to one KH. One area lost all pbs and the other KH is no longer used for lack of pbs. The remaining KH is constantly on the verge of disbanding over internal conflicts and total stagnation to say the least. I was surprized that the Branch Overseer himself traveled hundreds of miles to give the talk last night.

A Heads Up On Potential Heads Off...
by hillary_step inhello,.
some of you who have 'drifted' from the wts may not be aware than in recent months the wts has required co's to report the names and circumstances of those who have become 'inactive'.
the elders are required to visit each one and report to the co on his next visit as to where they are, who they are and why they have gone 'inactive'.. as ever there may be mixed motives with this arrangement, but it as well to be prepared.. best regards - hs

Thanks for the heads up. I'm putting this to the test. How far will they go? JW relatives have moved nearby who are in the hierarchy. Will I get any probing questions even though I'm in the looong time inactive and cantankerous classes? There's nothing I can be DF'd for except if I get caught supporting exJW. The pressure is high here, for memorial attendance.

How All Religions Can Be True
by metatron inif there's one thought that's truly unthinkable or beyond.
an average witnesses' comprehension, it's the thought that.
more than one religion can be true.. in reality, it's not that hard to fathom.. first, start with the thought that god is everywhere and in everything.

Good commentary for 4/22/02 Awake "Can I Worship God In My Own Way?". I agree with undecided.

What is your fondest/or not memory of cargroup ...
by ofcmad inthe compassionate toliet thread brought this frightening memory to mind.... the field service assignments!.
did you all have the same feeling of dread of being stuck with a particular person.. knowing that you would have to listen to their dribble throughout the day.. or listening to that poor sister's sinus condition where she would make that, for lack of a better way to describe it, hock-a-luegy sound with her nasal passages every 10 minutes.
then lets not forget the positive side.. how you wished with glee, and finally got to work with the car group that would goof off half of the day and the other day go to not-at-homes that would definitely still be not-at-homes.. *************************************.

Scully, FS just about killed you! Sometimes there are paybacks.
The Day We Tortured the CO
It was the end of summer and all the teenagers were getting in their month or more of vacation pioneering. We had a fairly large, mixed, group of older teens for a small congregation. We lived in a Pacific NW coastal town.
The congregation was getting a new CO. This was officially his first week ever as a full fledged circuit overseer. We, the young pioneers, would go out six to a car group. Naturally one morning the new CO took his turn with us. We had a territory checked out that was up in the hills and also happened to have a lot of ornery logger and fisherman do not calls.(most of our groups parents were in the same trade as the DNCs) This was when do not calls were a new thing and few took it serious.
By the time we got to the territory, the guys decided to see what the new CO was made of, for a good joke. Keeping the territory card hidden, the CO was set up to go to all the DNCs. We would take the doors in between then with a voice full of adulation say "I really would like to hear your presentation at this door". We deliberatly parked the car facing the door to watch the yelling, cussing, dogs turned loose, fireworks but far enough away to not be heard doubled over laughing. He asked "Are most people this opposed?"
The worst DNC was saved for last. He might threaten to go for his gun but it was all bluff. We parked in the direction of the driveway exit for a quick get away. The driver rushed the CO with "This is the last door, why don't you take it quick and then we can meet on time for lunch" He was so new, he took the bait and went by himself. He finally got a not at home.
Needless to say it was RV's that afternoon.

Watchtower Estate Planning
by messenger inthe following is a letter that was sent to disfellowshipped children by way of an attorney.
the attorney was secured by the elderly parents who are witnesses and recently signed over a sizable estate to watchtower at their death.
do you think this is part of the legal department tactics to prevent the parents from making contact with the children and thus causing the estate to be contested?

Play the breaking up the family card for money, it's legal. This type of tactic makes me want to Watchtower bash.
Truth, hope, love: the hook. Watchtower corporation empire: the current reality.
The WTS Corporation at their peak reminds me of a cyclone. It starts out small but if the coil of wind draws in on itself, it strenghtens and grows so large, that none can be spared in its path of destruction.
The entity must stay alive & mighty that means gathering money.

Favorite food at Assemblies
by finnrot ini hated growing up as a witness.
i hated the boring ass meetings where you could hear a pin drop on the floor, i hated going door to door and i hated not being normal like the other kids.. but the one thing i liked was going to the assemlies at the oakland coliseum.
i would wander around and find other kids to goof around with.

To any attending Bay Area, CA assemblies. Does anyone remember a late 70's Candlestick Park DA were assembly food humor made it in to closing prayer? Was it Shropshire? "You know were devoted to you Jehovah as were eating hoagie sandwiches and sitting in this wind tunnel for 5 days!"

Do you see many jw's at your door?
by terafera inthis has probably been addressed before, but.... the other day a philipino man knocked on our door.
my husband answered it, and a nice elderly man said something in philipino to us, holding a watchtower and awake.
my husband said we only spoke english, and the old man smiled, said something and left.

I'm in Alaska(not Anchorage). I did live in Anchorage for a few months, though. I was called on after about three months but they were Spanish speaking! It shows with the increases being in many non-English speaking areas.

Why are you here?
by teejay inokay, i know what *my* deal is.
i'm kinda stuck in a life that i really see no way of escaping.
a big part of my deal is that i was raised without a dad who walked out on his family and so i have it in me to be the dad my dad never was.

Thanks for post. Positive advice for those exiting.
I liked reading about core values. This speaks to those people who possess a conscience and a need for spirituality or attaining higher values. This is regardless of religion, deist, nondeist beliefs.
Of the bible scriptures I care to remember Romans 2:14,15 stands out on this subject. To sum it up: of the "people of the nations who do not know law", their conscience is their guide even to their betterment.
Our conscience and core values are there regardless, it is for us to tap into it.
